Topamax withdrawal symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax withdrawal symptoms

topamax

Avatar f tn Hi there. Withdrawal symptoms are seen if gabapentin is discontinued abruptly. These are usually anxiety, diaphoresis, irritability, agitation, confusion, and status epilepticus. The symptoms that are associated with gabapentin withdrawal tend to mimic some of those associated with ethanol and benzodiazepine withdrawal, possibly because gabapentin augments GABA levels like these.
Avatar m tn I am unaware of any cases where it is related to Topamax withdrawal. However, it is a symptom which can and should be easily treated, to prevent dehydration. Ask your doctor about taking MiraLAX (Polyethylene Glycol 3350) or some other alternative.

1232362 tn?1333135406 Due to financial issues I haven't been able to fill my topamax script and won't be able to for at least another week. How will this affect me and when I can refill should I just start back up like nothing happened? So far I seem ok.
Avatar f tn About 1.5 yrs now I have been on Topamax. Also around that time, my thyroid started acting up. I started losing my hair, cold hands and feet, feeling very tired, bad memory etc.. Now my symptoms have escalated. My memory is to the point where I can’t even remember simple words. I am depressed all the time and can’t get out of bed during the day. Then I can’t sleep at night. I'm having a hard time separating the side affects from the Topamax and the thyroid, which got me thinking.
Avatar n tn can topomax be used for opiate (percocet) withdrawal? I have heard that ultram is good for that but then you are addicted to the ultram. I also heard neurontin is helpful and that topomax is similar so I wondered if anyone had tried topomax for withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I knew I was going to have some withdrawal issues and the first week was horrible mentally. Physically I pretty much dodged the bullet. This is day 15 and mentally I am still exhausted. My mood is ALL OVER the place. I cry a lot. I'm anxious all the time. I went from sleeping at least 6-7 hours to maybe 4 very restless hours. My trazadone didn't even help last night and Xanax got me relaxed but only 3 hours of sleep. My question is, is this still part of the withdrawals?
Avatar f tn Thank you for posting these studies on Topiramate. Do you know of research studies on the withdrawal symptoms of Topiramate when tapered off of? What the statistical numbers are in combination of which withdrawal symptoms were more likely to occur and perhaps the length of time for those symptoms to subside? Also, what the medically suggested taper off of rate is to minimize these effects.
Avatar n tn My daughter was on Topamax for a mood disorder. Found out it's nicknamed "dopamax" because it can cause cognitive slowness plus drowsiness. Hopefully you'll just build a tolerance for it and not see these things.
Avatar f tn Decided to quit because of weight gain. When i discontinued i had HORRIBLE discontinuation symptoms but i am losing weight reasonably fast without any dieting. Geodon was the culprit in my case of weight gain.
Avatar f tn Oh god. Geodon has horrible withdrawal symptoms for most people who take it even after a short period of time. I hear it's like trying to come off of hard drugs. If you're lucky you won't have any withdrawal but I'm guessing you are by the nature of your question by asking how long your withdrawal should last. I unfortunately can't answer how long it will last from personal experience but I've heard it can last four weeks.
429209 tn?1224166589 Do not stop taking this drug without talking to your doctor, especially if you have been taking it for a long time. Stopping the drug suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms (anxiousness, sleeplessness, and irritability). Your doctor probably will decrease your dose gradually.
559058 tn?1215810834 I've been on Topamax for a while now and it's having a devastating effect on my memory. How can I taper it off? I'd like to do it as soon as I can... Thanks!
Avatar m tn //www.revolutionhealth.com/drugs-treatments/rating/topamax-for-fibromyalgia-syndrome-fms Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn 100 mg of topamax daily, which I'm very consistent about because I've already dealt with withdrawal of that and I don't want to deal with it again. I've never taken topamax and concerta concurrently, the topamax I started about five months ago and tolerate very well. My doctor didn't think there would be a problem with the two medications together.
1276940 tn?1564515084 I was wondering if the blurry vision could be connected to the other symptoms I am having? My PCP is out until Tuesday (9/3) so if my hip is not feeling any better I am calling for another appt and was wondering if I should mention the blurry vision to her? And any ideas as to what might be going on with me? Thanks in advance for your time!!
Avatar f tn I was on Wellbutrin before the tumor/surgery and was feeling great. Afterward they put me on fluoxetine and topamax (I no longer have migraines and weaned myself off both). About a month ago I wanted to try stopping the Wellbutrin, and my gp told me to just stop it (300 xl). I was hesitant but decided to try it. I lasted about a month and noticed I was starting to feel weird so I went back on (been about 4 weeks now). Here's the question!
424862 tn?1203803456 Thanks for your reply, I am yet to start on Topamax, but this is what the neuro has prescribed for me. I was really wanting to find out as much as I can about it before I actually start taking it. My husband and I had planned on 'seeing what happened' when I came off the pill late summer '07. I then got really unwell again (this is 4th time I have been floored for months on end...) and so am not sure what to do now. I have since been back on the pill until I find out my options.
Avatar m tn Neurontin seems to be a safer choice depending on dosage. I have taken up to 1500mg daily for a nerve injury and other then weight gain I noticed no other symptoms. It wasn't as effective at the higher dose for the type of injury I have. Lyrica seemed to work better but on at lower doses. For migraines, ask you Doctor if he/she would consider changing to Topamax. It's in the same family as Neurontin but my wife's Neurologist thinks it is a superior drug.
612876 tn?1355514495 Weaning should be slow -- no more than 10% per month -- to avoid severe negative side effects of withdrawal. Medical treatment of withdrawal symptoms should be provided. These may include treatment for runny nose, diarrhea, etc. Hyperalgesia is a common symptom of opioid withdrawal. While symptom fades with time, in the early months of withdrawal it can be quite debilitating depending on your underlying pain condition.
Avatar n tn He also put me on something called Topamax which is used in hiher doses for anti-serusers but in low doses susspose to control cravings and of couse some valium.. Well This is the 7 day and I still feel like ****. I am sleeping so much, no energy I stoped the cattapress and the valium still use the durseyl for sleep and taking a ssri Celixia. My question is how much longer will I feel like ****. In the past it only took a few days and I was fine but this time its really bad.
Avatar f tn Severe headaches with associated neurological symptoms can be migraines... the neurological symptoms that you have described that are consistent with migraines are the aniscoria and the numbness and tingling. And pain in the eye is very consistent with migraines. I am curious to what the doctors have diagnosed this pain as. Have any of the doctors suggested migraines? The treatment for chronic migraines is often the same as the treatment for ANY chronic pain...
Avatar f tn Topamax is for migraines
Avatar f tn Hi all. I am currently taking ziprasidone along with lamictil and topamax and Lexapro as well as an occasional Ativan. I have been taking 80mg ziprasidone-geodon- twice a day for almost three years now. It has made me gain almost 200 pounds! I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off.
2063048 tn?1641389945 Hi Annie! I say try the Topamax. It was a lifesaver for my daughter. She had similar symptoms following her decompression surgery and was put on Topamax and Diamox for 6 months. After a week there was improvement and now she is off all meds and feeling good. Warning: there are side effects like tingling, fatigue and soda tasting really bad. I do believe the Topamax calms the brain down. After all it is used to treat seizures as well as migraines. She never needed more than 25 mg a day.
778037 tn?1377986200 I take Topamax also and had the same symptoms in my hands and feet. My neuro. told me it was do to a lack of fluids. So try drinking more water. It helped me.
Avatar m tn I was on 50 mg topamax at bedtime and have recently decided to stop (per dr.)I was only on it for 10 days, but had terrible side effects. Since stopping the MEDs. the side effects are crazy! I feel all of this anxiety and I cannot sleep, I have bizarre thoughts and zero appetite. This has been going on since I stopped 2 days ago. Anyone else experience this and more importantly how many days til I feel better???
424862 tn?1203803456 Well, it can't hurt to try. I myself use Topamax. I also had many of your symptoms when I was younger and my neuro suspects they may have been BAM. Be aware it may take some time to get used to Topamax..also known in some circles as Dopamax because it can cause you to be drowsy and disconnected and have difficulty with word finding...this is more common in the early weeks of treatment. Your dr. will probably titrate your dosage.
