Avatar f tn I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. Please let me know so that I can discuss this with my neurologist about adding Topamax back into my daily routine. Thank you, any help you could give would be wonderful.
Avatar n tn I have been on both Depakote and Topamax, I have gained on Depakote, but I like the way I feel on it better. With the Topamax, I had problems with word recollection, confusion and disorientation. BUT...I did not gain weight. I had rather be chubby than on Topamax.
1759292 tn?1313064590 I found the diamox helped but than they put the shunt in and it basically does the same thing. Vicodin made me not care it hurt and I could get stuff done. But everyone is diffrent and u just have to play around with things.
7486852 tn?1410352184 Thank you. Yeah, I had problems on kepra alone,& dilantin alone only helped reduce the amount of seizures but was still having too many, & so then I tried Dilantin with topamax but that actually increased my depression, made me sick, i couldn't eat, was super irritable and stressed and was having even more seizures on those two.
3140085 tn?1342843508 a few years ago the dr had me take topamax and i really liked it. can you take topamax with prozac? or would I just need the topamax only? I'm really in a bind because i can not afford to see the dr.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had any side effects from Depakote ER? My 24 year old son was just diagnosed with Seizures, after experiencing several episodes of lost of consciousness. Can anyone out there tell me if they have had constant nausea, fatigue and some heartburn from the medication?
Avatar f tn I appreciate it. I have been on depakote, topamax, lamotrigine, zonegran, gabepentin, lamictal, and keppra. Most of them make me so dopey and forgetful that working is definately a challenge. But...no work...no insurance...no medical care. What a nasty circle. I am allergic to the zonegran, blisters in my mouth etc. The others caused severe leg pain, eye pain, anorexia, hairloss, and I suppose i could go on. But you get the picture.
1655449 tn?1302089876 Has any one else experienced something like this with Topamax? Has anyone quit cold turkey and are there any harmful effects from doing so?
Avatar n tn I have had and reacted to Depakote, Neurontin, Lyrica, and Topamax. The Lyrica and Neurontin was originally for nerve pain and the Depakote and Topamax were for migraines.
Avatar f tn Fentanyl and depakote, topamax, and Seroquel are listed as increasing drowsiness, as does depakote + Seroquel. In addition, depakote + topamax can increase the drug levels of both meds, meaning that he's effectively getting a higher dose of both. Seroquel + topamax also has a slight risk of overheating, although that's a rare side effect and more common in children. I'm guessing the topamax is for migraines.
Avatar f tn Now without CT results the doctor is suggesting a biopsy. I believe this is due to negative hepatitis tests and recently switching to Topamax from Depakote after 18 years. Is a biopsy really necessary? I think maybe they are worried that there is some damage from the Depakote?
Avatar f tn They (VA neuros) diagnosed me with a seizure disorder. To treat me, they gave me topamax. That has helped with the seizures and the migraines. I occasionally get breakthrough migraines. They had to adjust the topamax a few times though. However over the past 3 years, I have also suffered from stomach palpatations, and I'd get really flush and I'd sweat. And I can't breathe. I also get tingling and numb in my hands and fingers. My primary care drs have told me its anxiety.
Avatar f tn recently discovered that during sexual intercourse with my boyfriend and noticed some dryness during this. could any one help me with this?
739988 tn?1386672969 Topamax made all of my hair fall out, i was thin, but now kinda bald! Plus once I stopped taking it I gained a ton of weight!
Avatar n tn My son started having seizures at 15. He was first on Depakote, with in months he developed a rash. Changed him to Kepra and later added Topamax. Then took him off Kepra and left him on a low dose of topamax. Which was good and he was seizure free. When they tried to wean him at the age of 17 or so to see if he had out grown his seizures, we don't not see seizures but what when seen was muscle twitches (he was trying to have seizures). They put him back on his regular dose.
Avatar n tn If anyone knows how these drugs will interact with one another please let me know. Also I had depakote but it made me feel like a zombie will Topamax do the same since it is also an anticonvulsant?
Avatar f tn Hi, I would suggest you to discuss with your doctor if Topamax will be suitable for you. Topamax has proved to be very effective for migraine prophylaxis. Recent studies have shown that Topamax is very effective for reducing the frequency and severity of migraines. http://www.*************.com/migraine/medications/topamax.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/topamax-migraine.html Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I've had migraines for 18yrs & have tried everything under the sun in that time... including occipital nerve blocks & Botox. I was placed on Topamax 100mg almost 10yrs ago with good results. I would still get 1-3 migraines a month but they didn't last as long or as intense. About 7yrs ago my neurologist told me to take 250mg of Magnesium as well. But 2yrs ago my migraines began to get worse.
Avatar f tn He was very much at the refrigerator with fork in hand and ATE himself to 165+ Lbs.... at 10-11 yr.... so the fat melted like butter with the Topamax.... (I heard Anna Nicole had this in her at her autopsy) and Being a heavy person myself wished I could lose weight like MY GUY was.... the problem was that we thought that the Topamax created anxiety .... he walked down halls like we were taking him down death row..... he began being fearful of community places....
Avatar f tn I was taking amitriptyline as 1 of my preventatives for migraines for a couple of years. I was only on 10 mg and didn't have any luck with this med of the other which was Topamax so my DR switch both. She took me off amitriptyline completely and is weening me off of the topamax slowly before adding in Depakote. Hopefully this will work. My question is since she started this I have had leg aches ( not cramps or burning ). Just aches like they are tired.
Avatar m tn He suggested to follow up with her 3-6 months post op(which reminds me I need to call and schedule an appointment with her-lol) and discuss the Depakote.
Avatar f tn I've been on Depakote with little help in controlling my moods. It caused weight gain, skin discoloration and acne, stopped my periods, and made my hair darker and wavier. Tegretol, Trileptal, Lamictal, all caused dizziness, double vision, and poor coordination. Topomax caused memory problems and word finding problems. None helped my moods much, except, MAYBE Lamictal. NOW, I am one of those people that gets the side effects at a low dose and can't tolerate a therapeutic dose.
Avatar n tn well I am on 200 mg of topamax for my migraines which I dont have as often as i use to. but this one pitucular day I started having this dull burning sinsation in the back of my head when it gets so bad it feels like the back of my head is on fire and it makes me dizzy when im up on my feet and i try not to get up to fast when im lying down or sitting.. I had a c-scan taken at the er and it came bk normal. this has been going on for over a month now I have been on the topamax for over a year.
Avatar n tn I am sure the initial visit will be lengthy, they will probably want to do an EEG, maybe an MRI before they come up with a treatment plan for her. They should consult with your daughters neuro and go from there. Most neuros will comply with the specialists. The side effects of medicine is a controversy for everyone. There are so many pros and cons of medication, I'm sorry your daughter is having a hard time with them. What meds are you daughter currently on?
Avatar n tn However, individuals with migraine do not have epilepsy. Have you met with a neruologist yet? If not, that would be a wise move. Depakote is an epileptic medication and Midrin is for migraines. I use Midrin but not depakote. I have bipolar disorder and depakote is used for that, but causes weight gain. I use Lithium with my anti-depressent and it works well. Using Midrin or Maxalt when I get a headache works great for me along with magnesium supplimentation which I use daily.
