topamax

424862 tn?1203803456 I have recently been diagnosed with basilar migraine and told to try Topamax, which I have to take over a period of months. We were hoping to have children soon, and were told I couldnt get pregnant while on this drug. What happens if we want to start trying for a baby, do I come off Topamax, and the symptoms come back? Or do I stay on it and not try for a baby for a long time???
Avatar f tn I'm currently on 300 bupropion/100 topamax for migraines. I don't like the bupropion as much as Zoloft but had to stop it bc I ate so much on the Zoloft. Is there anything someone could recommend to make me loose weight along with taking Zoloft?
Avatar n tn Adderal alone reduces appetite big time. But some antidepressants may cause weight gain. But im concerned, and urge you NOT to take these medications for the sole reason of losing weight, particularly that they are quite hardcore and may cause long term damage. Just stick to your prescribed dose, eat right, and exercise. I know its easier said than done. But a change if lifestyle makes a world of difference. Find a hobby, mabye a a participation, or team sport you enjoy.
Avatar f tn Ive started having migraines since 2 years ago, and I started taking topamax when in pain. But, I don't take it every time since I don't want to get used to taking pain meds. I've also been using yaz pills for my PCOS that's what my OB prescribed me as to not worsen my migraine. Last month i shifted to yasmin pills i finished the pack 4 days after i started experiencing pain again. Headaches at first I thought it might be the medicine.
407790 tn?1397761026 m worried this drug has permanently messed with my metabolism. I always keep a food and exercise diary so I know that Pristiq didn't change my habits (it didn't make me hungrier or anything like that...I'm the same health nut I've always been!), so it seems to have slowed my metabolism. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
Avatar f tn I was on Zoloft for the last two months of my last pregnancy, and for the last month of this most recent one. I continued to take it for a few months after my last son was born, and I'm taking it now (my new baby is three weeks old). The risks are very low, and the benefits far outweigh the risks. I'm sure your situation is the same. Make sure you discuss the meds with your OB and your psychiatrist. It's important to continue your psych meds, as you know!
Avatar f tn Welbutrin has worked for me for years, but about 8 days after starting Topamax for migraine control, the depression is kicking my butt. Could the Topamax be responsible? I would rather have migraines than be depressed!
Avatar m tn I just do not want to have to go through all of this withdrawal stuff and then have to wait to build up on the effexor. Any thoughts? And any thoughts on how to help with the withdrawal symptoms?
Avatar f tn You are on a lot of meds. I was like that yrs. ago; way overmedicated and way overweight. I'm now down to 2 antidepressants and 1 mood stabilizer. (I am also a rapid cycler). Everybody is different and responds to medication differently. The best and most all-around useful mood stabilizer for me has been Topamax. It is an anti-convulsant, also indicated for propylaxis of migraines (which I also have). The great side effect, if you're overweight, is WEIGHT LOSS. Be careful, though.
Avatar f tn I have been treated for tension headaches and migraines since 2009. I was diagnosed with JME when I was 13. I'm currently on 150 topamax and 500 lamictal for seizures. I have tried antimigraines, analgesics, muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal-anti-inflammatory and steroids, ssnri antidepressants and obviously acetaminophen and aspirin for headaches . I have one every single day but the severity of it varies. Within the past few days I have noticed slight shaking and weakness in my hands.
633143 tn?1262133535 I also had this kind of crazy weight loss on Topamax. For me, it turned out to be the combination of the dosage of Topamax and other medications that made the weight loss so severe. I noticed that once I stopped taking Wellbutrin and as my headaches improved I lowered my dose of Topamax, the weight loss eased off and it took about 6 months to get back to my usual weight. Now I am back watching what I eat, instead of eating everything in site and losing weight!
Avatar n tn Topamax is used for a lot of things it isn't necessarily labeled for. It's also used for treatment of nerve-related pain. Docs love to give it to patients with spine pain because it's not a narcotic. I know topamax has helped people with pain, but I wasn't one of them. I got every side effect on the fine-print enclosure, including a wooden tongue and numb, nearly paralyzed extremeties. Hadn't even titrated up to a "therapeutic" dose yet.
574118 tn?1305135284 This year I didn't need any antidepressants for the 1st time in my 10 years illness. My concerns were and still are more about manic manifestations, not depressive ones. Which means I think my so called "hedonic setpoint" moves away from depression. Which is not bad, in my opinion. However, a few days ago, I started to feel my dopamine is going down lowering my mood and energy. I am on risperidone 1mg, seroquel 150mg (a strange combo) which worked well. So i removed 25mg seroquel.
Avatar f tn Hello! I have been a LONG time migraine and chronic tension headache sufferer. I have never had any form of medical treatment since each doctor I went to seemed to blow me off. This caused me to "self" medicate using a combo of over the counter meds like Excedrine and Tylenols. I ended up suffering from "Medication Overuse Headache". I am currently doing a sort of "detox" from all pain meds and headache inducing foods.
639006 tn?1245023846 Has anyone ever experience hairloss from use of antidepressants? I have been taking Pristiq (the new Brand Name replacement for Effexor) for the last 3 months. This morning when I took a shower, my hair started coming out in large clumps...enough that it completely clogged the tub drain. I was mortified! My sister experience hairloss from taking Wellbutrin several years ago, but she had been on an unusually high dose and for an extended period of time.
Avatar f tn I can tell you how it is for me. If I take an SSRI I become manic. I mean bad mania. I am a type 1 and so is my lady. She also becomes mainc from it. It is a concern and I am glad that you have been lookin into it. However I have seen some type one 1s and type 2s be able to take it without going manic. Also depending on how depressed when I come into treatment, they do take the risk of letting me go manic. It is almost the only way to come out of a deep depression.
Avatar m tn Hi JJ- if you google prednisone and hair loss you will find many interesting links to the topic. It appears that complaints about hair loss are near the top of the list of side effects reported with extended prednisone use..... Something about it changes the hormone levels. the good news is it seems it is not a permanent problem - the hair recovers after the prednisone is stopped.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Antiemetics can be used in combination with triptans or in combination with analgesics. There is a specific antiemetic called Metoclopramide that helps with migraine pain as well as nausea and vomiting. Since Metoclopramide helps with migraine pain as well as being an antiemetic, it can be taken on its own as an acute migraine medication. Usually Metoclopramide is prescribed with another migraine medication though, such as a triptan or an analgesic.
768044 tn?1294223436 I am currently taking topamax. Before topamax I tried valproic acid and before that I tried amitriptyline. On the topamax my migraines are currently happening still 15+ a month. Hence wanting to try something else too... When I asked my neurologist about the botox, he said that I couldn't mix the topamax and botox treatments. I hadn't heard this before. He said that in the clinical trials, the people who were on a comination of treatments showed worse results.
Avatar n tn I also cut all alcohol out with the exception of the occasional glass of wine with we are out to dinner with friends…. (Mostly so I don’t look like a party pooper) and anything carbonated taste awful. I still had 13 migraines last month, so the neurologist is still trying to get me on the correct dose. But I also have two lesions on my brain from my migraines so what’s one more…..
Avatar m tn I am taking it for my depression and hoping it helps with weight loss. I lost about 10 lbs on Topamax, and then regained it when I came off. I have also heard stories about peoples' hair falling out. Has any of this ever happen to you?
