Common Questions and Answers about Topamax with abilify

topamax

Avatar n tn Hello Everyone, I'm very new community. My new dr. just recently told me that me that I'm bipolar. I had been on lamictal for about two years for depression and anxiety, but weaned myself off of it, as I was convinced that it was making me gain weight. When I weaned myself off, I fell into a deep depression and had to find myself a new dr. I started Topamax and Wellbutrin, but the Wellbutrin is making my thoughts and heart race. So I have to go off.
Avatar m tn It has all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to help prepare for the baby. With the abilify and topamax, you will need to talk to your doctor and ask them about it. I was on abilify before I got pregnant with my son and needed to be taken completely off of it. But there is another medication that you can go on if you do become pregnant but I refused to take anything other than the prenatals when I was pregnant.
1029865 tn?1252418538 I use 0.5mg Klonopin as a secondary mood stabilizer to help with anxiety. I also take Abilify 15mg as the main dose.
Avatar f tn You are on a lot of meds. I was like that yrs. ago; way overmedicated and way overweight. I'm now down to 2 antidepressants and 1 mood stabilizer. (I am also a rapid cycler). Everybody is different and responds to medication differently. The best and most all-around useful mood stabilizer for me has been Topamax. It is an anti-convulsant, also indicated for propylaxis of migraines (which I also have). The great side effect, if you're overweight, is WEIGHT LOSS. Be careful, though.
Avatar f tn After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall. He mentioned that he thought I continued to have issues because of the Prozac but did not officially give me a diagnosis. I immediately saw the benefits. However, at the end of 2016 I went through a severe bout of depression and discontinued the Abilify.
1276940 tn?1564515084 Hi! I am the one you answered the question for about the possible Papilledema......well I have another question......I am currently on a few routine meds......they include: Topamax, Zoloft & Abilify. I was wondering if me taking the Topamax (or any of the other meds) would possibly cause me to have the possible Papilledema? I have been on it for almost 2 years now and the possible Papilledema was not seen during last years eye exam....... Thank you so much in advance!
Avatar n tn I think it was the combination of going off of the Zoloft and starting on the Topamax that caused the weight loss. I recently was prescribed Abilify and started gaining weight immediately. I stopped taking it. Good luck!
407790 tn?1397761026 re wise to have concerns about adding the Abilify, and who knows, you may do just fine on it, with no issues whatsoever, but there ARE risks to consider, especially with the multiple meds you're on. Hopefully I didn't confuse you more, lol. I'm just trying to give you my opinion, while I think medications really are a Godsend for a lot of people, I think sometimes people are put on too much, which ends up making them worse instead of better in the long run.
Avatar f tn i was wondering if anyone here diagnosed with adult adhd could share with me a few things please in regards to focusing and staying focused whether it's reading or driving television any activity does medication help you stay focused? and does the ability to not be able to focus extend to everything regardless the level of interest you hold in it?
918275 tn?1254068752 I started out on Risperdal and then was switched to Abilify, which seemed to slow the weight gain down, but I am continuing to gain weight which is very troubling to me. I have read alot about Topamax and it's weight loss side effect. I wonder if my psych would be willing to prescribe it for me since the weight gain is really putting a damper on my progress as far as happiness goes.
Avatar f tn I also seem to be (ironically) a bit weepy and moody on the Topamax - BUT with that said, I read somewhere that on the lower sub-therapeutic dose that does happen? But I don't know if that is true or not and can't seem to find where I read that. Has anyone had that experience and do you level out like you do on the SSRI - SSRNI's? Any and all feedback is much appreciated. I look forward to hearing your stories.
1276940 tn?1564515084 I should mention that I am Bipolar and I take several meds to help control it.....they include: Abilify, Zoloft, Klonopin & Topamax.....I noticed something new.....my right heel tingles & then goes numb......it only lasts for about 4 or 5 minutes then it's gone like it never even happened. I do experience tingling toes from the Topamax but I have never had my heel tingle then go numb! I have been on Topamax for over 1 1/2 years now.....
Avatar m tn Yes I did take some mood stabilizers in the past that caused weight loss (what that term means, the term anoxeria nervosa is what is used to describe the psychiatric disability people might be more familiar with). Some medications have that potential more than others but each person responds differently to each medication. If you have had any unexplained weight loss after starting a specific medication or at any time it would be essential to discuss this with your psychiatrist.
5032487 tn?1365824021 Lamictal is weight neutral, and is great for bipolar II, and packs most of its weight against depression. Geodon and Abilify are also supposed to be weight neutral, Geodon a little more so than Abilify. Trileptal is weight neutral as well, but its use in bipolar is technically off-label.
505907 tn?1258369340 my daughter has put on alot of weight with depakote and has an appt with her consultant next week, we were thinking of asking about changing her to topamax she also takes abilify. Anyone else on abilify and topomax?? Is it true topamax makes you loose wieght???
Avatar f tn Hi there, What you describe is unfortunately a huge issue for people taking medications for Bipolar, I have had a huge battle with it myself and I know a lot of others on here are battling with it too. A lot of the meds cause weight gain and excessive hunger but we are all different and react differently to certain ones. Abilify can make you hyperglycemic which makes you extra thirsty and extra hungry.. This isn't good and your doctor should be more understanding.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder with PTSD and I was put on xanax 1mg to take 2 1/2 a day. I was experiencing mainly what my psychiatrist called mania where I would be ridiculously irritable and nervous/shaky. While the xanax took care of most of this, at times I still experience a very bad mood and have anger problems, where I fly off the handle at things that wouldn't bother most people to that extreme.
Avatar f tn There is no reason you can't take Abilify with Zoloft. I take Abilify with several other medications. It started working within 2 weeks and my depression decreased dramatically. One common side effect of Abilify is akathisia, a restless need to move. I have that but added propranolol and it stopped it completely with no other side effects.
Avatar f tn t know what you are feeling unless you tell him or her. I am glad to hear some one did well with the abilify, I was one of those few people who experienced the "rapid involuntary hand movements and tremors" from it...scary! I am on topomax 200mg, and seroquel 200 mg, and selexa 40 mg. I still have some moodiness but its a trade off becasue if my meds were any stronger, I woud be asleep all day! I also have fybromyalgia-pain condition I have to deal with. So I have to manage that.
Avatar f tn Eltroxin 1 in AM Cytomel 2 in AM Cymbalta 1 In AM Lamotrogine 2 in PM Lithium X1500 MG 2 AM and 3 PM Ativan As needed for extreme anxiety I have been on risperidone, seroquel, abilify (I still have that in my cupboard in case) topamax.....plus the stuff now!!!!
Avatar f tn Have you had these symptoms checked out by your GP? Abilify does cause shaking and tremors, and just because your psychiatrist hasn't seen these side effects doesn't mean they aren't being caused by the Abilify. I doubt the Abilify is doing much to help you, it's rare to get this many years out of one medication as our bodies build up a tolerance to these types of medications.
Avatar f tn I am on zoloft which does not help with my anxiety, does adding abilify help with the anxiety and the depression?
15714039 tn?1442450888 I got married and found the woman of my dreams. I also am taking a medicinal pill cocktail of Atenolol, Norvasc, Wellbutrin, Topamax, Lamotragin, Abilify, and Cymbalta. I also suffer from Bi-polar and have been on some od these meds and others for @ 15 years. I do know that I have to take most/some of these and that the SSRI's do/can cause ED. My ultimate concern is that my libido may have permanently be altered to a lower level and that it might not be able to be raised.
Avatar m tn has anyone tried to wean their patients off taking abilify and try alternative measures?
Avatar f tn I'm on Lamictal and now Abilify, and haven't noticed a difference in my appetite and have lost weight (I've been on the Lamictal for over a year, just got on the Abilify). I took Depakote in the past and gained a lot of weight... but I, too, know those who haven't gained a pound on it. I have a feeling it was my college eating habits combined with the fatigue from new meds - and letting it run my life - that led to the gain.
