topamax

471949 tn?1236904026 My son takes Trileptal for his Epilepsy...(he is 16)...it's affecting his memory more and more; does anyone else here take this med and have similar problems? His dosage is 900mg/twice a day. Any lower dose and his seizures return. This has been the only med that has been able to control his seizures. He has frontal lobe epilepsy with seizures that only occured in his sleep (with a couple of rare exceptions). Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn m on the topamax, had bad acne as well in HS...no acne with the topamax. And a good side effect with the topamax is that I have lost weight. But no acne side effects with the topamax. been on it for a few yrs now.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar f tn This poor child is missing so much school and just missing out on being a teenager! She is already on topamax, trileptal, and magnesium. Hoping they find the right combo of meds soon!
Avatar f tn The EEG report suggested to consider complex partial seizures. I was placed on Topamax to which I had a bad reaction and was taken off after two weeks. I am now on Trileptal for now to see how my body tolerates that. WHatI need to know is if there are any other tests that can be run to confirm if in fact those spikes or discharges are complex partial seizures. The only physical manifestion I presented with was a tremor in my right arm.
Avatar f tn s common or uncommon but its not rare. Trileptal is similar clinically but better in one way in that the blood test is not required. I found that lithium worked well but had some trouble tolerating it for other reasons that were physical but did very well on Lamictal especially on rapid cycling. Each person reacts diffferently though. Speak to your psychiatrist about what is going on and if other options might be considered.
Avatar f tn Well im 18 years old and been having these really bad headaches since i was about 12. Doctors can't figure out what's wrong.I had a mri of the brain, mra of the neck and they all came out clear. I'm taking 2 butal apap 325 caff tab, 1 and a half topamax, 1 and a half trileptal, and one baclofen. My doctor also gave me a soft neck brace to wear while in on the computer and watching tv, but it seems like the brace is making this worse.
4980051 tn?1361868778 I have used trileptal. It is also a antiseizure med, and worked better than the topomax. The issue for me was that even at the absolute lowest effective dosage it was too sedating.
Avatar f tn I am a 53 yr old caucasion female. I have been suffering with some type of neuropathy for about 13 yrs. I've had 2 neurologists (because of a move). The first one diagnosed me with CIDP. but my new dr. does not agree because I don't seem to have any signs of weakness in my extremities. My symptoms are feelings similar to what you'd feel when someone scratches their nails down a chalkboard. They started in my left foot and shot up that leg.
959034 tn?1253671476 I take dilantin and tegretol. Soon zonegran too. Anyone know about that one? I had reactions to trileptal, depakote, and others. I had to stay in the hospital for Lamictal and topamax!!!!!
Avatar f tn s every seizure so they kept him for 5 days total and we were released with orders to see the neurologist in 2 weeks. The DR put him on keppra (in which had too many side effects), then Topamax and valium, in which he stayed on for 2 1/2 months. He continued to have the seizures, sometimes 4 a day, and sometimes 3 days in between them.
Avatar n tn t feel good and I took her to her room and she said she was wanted to lie down...so she did. She is on Lamictal 75mg...low dose and was on Topamax prior but she was losing her short term memory on that. I want to know from you, what test should I ask to have done because after 2 yrs I know there has got to be something more we can do in the test arena to narrow down her issues such as VEEG, MRI, PET Scan, MEG...
Avatar n tn What do you mean breakthrough symptoms? How do you know so much when you're just 23? :)). I am using Seroquel and the effect that I just mentioned is not severe, but I will definitely talk to my doc about it. I can sit still, but I sometimes feel very frustrated with things. This medicine is something which has actually worked for me after trying Divalproex, Olanzapine (which causes weight gain), Aripiprazole, Lamitrogine, Topamax, Trileptal.
Avatar f tn Dr. David Grider, Big Pine Key, FL put me on Topamax. Topamax saved my life! It is/was used for treating Epilepsy/seizures. Researcher's found it seemed to block and "cure" Migrains. Perhaps, it cured me. But God in Heaven, please give me back my memory. I appear unintelligent, ignorant and disinterested in what friends have confided in me-e.i., their expectations that I will retain what may trouble or bring them joy.
Avatar f tn I have been on several medications trying to keep these symptoms in check ... prozac, buspar, elavil, topamax, Trileptal, and I've had immune globulin IV treatments. The last three meds worked for a while, but not anymore. Steroids cause hysteria in me. Since stress is a trigger (during a flare up) my neurologist wants to try buspar. Have not done that yet. My sister is completely bedridden with polyneuropathy. When this gets bad, even my clothes irritate my body and I shake.
Avatar f tn I'm on Lamictal and it's working well for me so far. It is a slow taper, 25 mg every two weeks until 100 mg, then you can go up by 50 mg every two weeks. So it takes a while to work, but it's really good for the depressive phase. It's great for BP II, and it's approved I believe as an add-on med for BP I stabilization. Topomax does get used for bipolar, but it causes major cognitive side effects in a lot of people, to the point of getting nicknamed "Dopamax".
Avatar f tn Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!
Avatar n tn The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.
Avatar f tn For nerve pain in the states they use Gabenpentin which is a seizure medicine or Lyrica or Trileptal. Or sometimes anti depressants such as Amitryptoline. For headaches they use Topamax as a preventative. I take Immitrex for my migraines. These drugs can take the body some getting used to but you should in a week or so be used to them. Everyone is different so there is no one drug fits all. I take Immitrex for headaches. I take Zanaflex for muscle spasms. I took Trileptal for nerve pain.
