I am on my 2nd week of Topamax. Get ready for some very strange side effects. Your hands and feet and face will tingle and fall asleep. I have no appetite at all. I can go from breakfast to dinner of the next day and not be hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat. I'm forgetting things. I went to Wal Mart and forgot what i went there for. I am on it for migranes so im hoping i can stick it out because my headaches are unbearable. Good luck!

Hello, Topamax can cause itching and erythematous rash in some individuals.Although the main side effects of topamax are slower reflexes, trouble thinking or concentrating, tiredness, poor coordination, and dizziness,yet it has shown itchy skin in some individuals. I feel that if you are showing any allergic reaction to topamax,pls stop taking it and consult your doctor for a change in prescription.You can take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin for itching.

I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.

I have a lot of co-workers at a call center who have also tried topamax but say its not usefull and hated the side effects so they stopped.

I feel all of this anxiety and I cannot sleep, I have bizarre thoughts and zero appetite. This has been going on since I stopped 2 days ago. I was taking it .. cannot handle the side effects. While the taste thing is horrid, its the "slowness" of my brain that I can't deal with. I had the same problem with Neurontin .. makes me feel like my synapses are on slow motion.

I was recently put on topamax not 4 weight loss but i was told a side effect is weight loss(personally i am against taking diet pills for myself) i was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or xperience with this med?

Hi Tina I take 75mg of Topamax at bedtime. It is GREAT for migraines but not for the Chiari headaches. I have very few breakthrough migraines, but I still get the Chiari headaches everyday. I don't see any side effects with the topamax...I really like it!!! As far as the disability question...from what I understand, getting on disability for Chiari is very difficult and can take a long time. I have not tried and I still work every day. I have no choice but to work.

Topamax has a few side effects that are not the greatest (makes me a little tired, reduces my sex drive, thinning hair, very expensive) but for it to HELP tame the beast inside me its been worth it. The cognitive side effects also went away after a couple of months. After about 3 months on Topamax and getting to my maximum dose, I was getting minor headaches and virtually no side effects. The best thing about Topamax as opposed to other migraine drugs is that it doesn't make you gain weight. Topamax gave me my life back.

Many who have taken Topamax cannot tolerate it. The side effects often progress into painful nerve "zaps" and memory loss. I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.

I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.

It appears that he has you on the starter dose to work up to minimize side effects. My doctor had me work up about a week at a time - and I stopped working up as soon as I felt better. Everyone is different. For a long time, 25mg did work for me but as I recall, it takes a while to kick in.

Then I read that heightened ammonia in blood can lead to kidney stones, hair loss and confusion...all side effects of Topamax. So, my thinking is that adding water and maybe some milk thistle or other liver supporting supplements may help tip the balance back. hi julianna i started topa 2 yrs ago and am now on 300 mg a day for my migrains the beginng was ell lots of side effects one h/a shaking nausea best of all weighttloss they all did go away you just have to wait it out it is worth it it is a cause for stones drink plenty of water and also taper off if yoy deceide to stop other wise you will hve very bad side effects.
