topamax

I guess what I'm trying to say is there are many more options to try if topamax doesn't work for you, or you have complications from it. But I know a lot of people who topamax works for, and they never even have to try anything else.
Hi, I have been on topamax for menstrual migraine since 2009. I was put on topamax because my migraines had me bedridden twice a month and I couldn't lead a normal life. I started low on 25mg and ended up on 2 x 50mg daily. The early side effects do go away. I had tingling in my hands and feet and I did still get some nasty headaches (no longer migraines) in the initial stages. The cognitive side effects also went away after a couple of months.

hi- I am attempting to taper off of bipolar medictions topamax 100MG 1tabTID [anticonvulsant] as mood stabilizer and Bupropion 100 MG 2tab BID [antidepressant] I am dx as bipolar 1, rapid cycling- took 2 years to get this level of med, and it to be effective. Problem? MOTOR SKILLS! topamax is severely inhibiting my ability to concentrate, articulate thoughts and also my memory has gone to the birds- and I am only 26 next month!
Topomax have helped many of my co-workers and a family member to aliviate or stop migraines. Thats why i tried it my self. but it didnt work for me. Dealing with migraines has left me exposed to try anything. But be aware of the side effects and look out for them some of the meds i have tried actually (2) had strong side effects that I called my doctor the next morning to give my something else. good luck i hope it works!!
Okay, so has anyone that has been Rx'd topamax for headaches, actually gotten crushing headaches about 1-2 hours after taking it? I am trying hard to wait it out and work through my dosage increases but this is just insane! Thanks!
well I have not experienced that since starting the topamax, but have had the issue as a result of chiari b4 surgery and have had it occasionally since... I wish I could tell u more, I am just too new to the med myself and the fact we all will respond differently...
Can you take clenbuterol and topamax together? any side effects I should be worried about?
I have been prescribed Wellbutrin for depression and topamax as a mood stabilizer. The combination worked very well for me and the bonus was that I lost weight. However, I also lost hair. I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same problem.
My dr. put me on topamax... for migranes, but also for weightloss... He says it will really kick in and start helping me shed weight once I get up to the 150-200mg mark. I am currently on 100mg's/day and will increase to 150mgs by the weeks end...then 200mg's by the following week... Anyone else use this drug and what are your experiances at the different dosage levels? I have no headaches at all which I love...
I have digenerative disc disease and my neirologist just prescribed topamax, he said it would help with the pain and tingling but could result in weight loss. I am wondering if prescribing topamax for ddd is common among neurologists? I can't seem to find any other information related to topamax as a pain med, only information I have is that it's a powerful drug with lots of side effects, most not so good. The weight loss aspect is the only plus...
I began taking topamax for headaches and also to help with the weight gain from Effexor. About a month later, I realized the side effects were much greater than the help I was getting from the med so I began tapering off. I had read on the net from posters how horrible a med this is to get off and how long it takes to do it. I've been tapering off for about 20 days and just stopped 3 nights ago. Sick of that silly pill. The med caused me to turn into some kind of monster.
I began taking topamax in Dec. 2001. prescribed by my Dr. for migraines and at the same time an experimental drug to help with manic depression. I was 31 at the time, had been on every medication known to man for depression and packed on 20 pounds while trying different ones. She suggested topamax as sort of an "all in one" drug considering one side effect of it was weight loss. Boy was she right, no migraines, no irratitic mood swings, and I dropped 25 lbs quick!
Can u take topamax for weightloss while on a methadone maintence program? Is it safe? Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with the two together?
The optimum levels for pain are between 150mg and 200mg. I am currently at 175mg. You may be able to taper off the Lyrica and ramp up on the topamax at the same time and have your pain doctor take over the prescription so that you can get a stronger dosage- 50mg in clinical trials wasn't even strong enough to help migraines. GSDgirl- Fironol??? Do you mean Fibronol? I just Googled it and it looks like a supplement. Am I right? I am not familiar with that med/supplement.
I just started topamax. I'm on 25mg/day and will increase by 25mg/week until I reach 100mg. I heard the weightloss effect depends on the dose. So, what dose did everyone here have their success? And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along? I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking). PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
I regained consciousness with a '10' migraine (for those of you familiar with the 0-10 pain scale) and my migraine has not gone below a '6' despite being on 200mg of topamax once nightly. It did not take long before the depression hit, 20mg of Lexapro in the morning, and I am still depressed to this day.
So, now they have put me on Cyproheptadine, and that didn't cut out the vertigo, then amitriptilyne and so far I gained a couple of pounds and have some trouble with short term memory but the number of migraine headaches is the same but I don't know about the vertigo yet. So, they are going to try also topamax but I am worried about the side effects.
Anyway I am rambling. To get to point here, I started taking topamax about 10 days ago (obviously to avoid the headaches) I have tapered up to 100 mg/QD. I only take it night. It seems to be working, I have only had one headache, to speak of, so far and it was pretty mild in comparison. I mean I've had a few minor tension headaches, but nothing that really even warrants whining about. I even seem to be a little more optimistic than usual about the general state of...
I hope anyone who uses topamax for any reason is fully aware of the serious risk of acute narrow angle glaucoma. I had read several articles about it but saw it firsthand last week. As usual on my quiet weekend off I got the dreaded call from the emergency room, again. This time about a woman on topamax for 7 days who seemed to have lost almost all her vision 12 hours after increasing her dose per her doctor's instructions.
My doctor prescribes me loritab 10 and topamax. I have not started the topamax because he says that I have to take it everday for the rest of my life and stopping it quickly can cause anurisms. The headaches are more severe and come on very quickly now. Should I be concerned?
I have been put on varying doses of Imitrex, Propranalol, Nifedipine, Relpex and am now on topamax. My headaches are now ocurring everyday, they are there when I wake up and sometimes go away briefly throughout the day but nothing really seems to help. Recently i have also been experiencing significant mood and behavior changes. I have been crying when things aren't even sad and I have been experiencing moments of extreme rage where I scream at people and feel like hitting things.
I started on 40mg of prednisone a day in the beginning of January. Then was put on topamax about five weeks ago. At that point, my hair started falling out three times more than before. I'm talking my hands are covered every time I wash it, plus there is hair all over the bathroom floor, counter top, etc., by the time I'm done in there. It's getting really, really thing. I've been off the topamax for two weeks almost, and it's still falling out heavily. No signs of it slowing down.
I suffer from chronic daily headaches and take upwards of 12 or more fioricet a day as well as topamax and effexor for prevention of migraines. Since my doctor will only prescribe up to 6 fioricet per day, I have resorted to orderly brand fioricet online as $200 for 90 tablets. My questions are how to detox at home off fioricet - should I take 12 tabs, then 11 the next day, then 10 the next day or what? Also, is it illegal to get fioricet from my doctor as well as ordering online?
but i am sure he knows what he is doing and if u follow his taper u should be fine..i know ativan is a slow taper...i had never heard of buspar withdrawal before....
i would advise against cold turkey unless you want a world of pain.. for long term sub use, a long, slow taper is the best. Look at the "Health PAges" on the upper right and there are a lot of articles on Sub and tapering off... on the dose you are on, not adviseable to go cold turkey but slowly taper down. We can't offer specific tapers, best to use a doctor which is what i did... and yes, there are things to take with w/d symptoms which are also found in the Health Pages.
I also take a number of medications, including topamax for migraine, blood pressure meds, Celebrex, asthma medication and diabetes medication. However I have had recurring visual disturbances that only happen at night. I get up in the middle of the night - to go to the bathroom - and the bathroom is covered in geometric patterns, like a checkered pattern or little lacework pattern. It's everywhere, the walls, tub, sink, floor. I feel like I'm tripping on something!
Hi, I am on topamax 100 mg for classic migraines, also have a history of basilar artery migraines. I also have a history of visual snow and complex visual aura which I experience at night . The topamax seems to reduce the complex visual hallucinations but now I see "trails" or palinopsia at night. This seems to be worsening, I just titrated my dose to 100 mg which I take at bedtime. I have to take it at bedtime since it knocks me out - acts like a sleeping pill.
