Topamax side effects taste

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax side effects taste

topamax

Avatar f tn Hi The abnormal metallic taste sensation or taste perversion is a common side effect seen after Topamax use. These tablets have a bitter taste and lose their effectiveness quickly when broken, so you should swallow them whole. Chewing the tablet may leave a bitter taste. Hence, do not split, chew, or crush them.
Avatar m tn I was recently put on topamax not 4 weight loss but i was told a side effect is weight loss(personally i am against taking diet pills for myself) i was wondering if anyone has any knowledge or xperience with this med?
681148 tn?1437661591 My friend who I mentioned earlier, she got kidney stones because of the topamax. This is one of the serious side-effects that topamax can cause, but it is a rare side-effect that only happens in some people. It can be avoided by most people as long as you drink and ENTIRE glass of water with every topamax pill you take. This is extremely important... never take topamax without water!!! But, for a very small number of people topamax can still cause kidney stones, which are extremely painful.
Avatar f tn I was taking it .. cannot handle the side effects. While the taste thing is horrid, its the "slowness" of my brain that I can't deal with. I had the same problem with Neurontin .. makes me feel like my synapses are on slow motion.
Avatar n tn The side effects have been tolerable but I went from 25 to 50 very quick and the side effect were bad: Brain fog, no appetite, tingling, insomnia. I went from 50 to 75mg, 5 weeks later and 75 to 100mg 4 weeks later, working up slowly does help with the side effects. Over time I have found most of my side effects subside: I take it for nerve pain and complex migraines.
Avatar f tn The dose should be slowly increased to avoid side effects that will make you stop taking it before you reach a therapeutic level and know whether or not it works for you. Topamax did nothing for my pain and I was one of the few people who had one of the more bizarre side effects. I first noticed my hands and feet going numb. With the next increase my face went numb and my tongue felt like a block of dried wood. It can also interfere with taste in some people.
Avatar f tn I am supposed to step up slowly, 1/2 tab increments until I'm up to 1 full tab 3X per day. Here is my question....if you've been on this med, when did you notice a difference? Did you notice one at all? I realize everyone is different, but I'm anxious to see if this med helps. Also, did anyone else notice a difference in the way carbonated soft drinks taste while on this med? I noticed the same metallic taste to soda when I was on Topomax....really strange!!

Avatar f tn I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.
Avatar n tn Hello, Topamax can cause itching and erythematous rash in some individuals.Although the main side effects of topamax are slower reflexes, trouble thinking or concentrating, tiredness, poor coordination, and dizziness, yet it has shown itchy skin in some individuals. I feel that if you are showing any allergic reaction to topamax, pls stop taking it and consult your doctor for a change in prescription. You can take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin for itching.
Avatar m tn http://www.rxlist.com/topamax-drug.htm). Diet modification and supplementation is a good alternative in decreasing the dosage and the associated side effects of certain medicatons such as topamax. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn I have a lot of co-workers at a call center who have also tried topamax but say its not usefull and hated the side effects so they stopped.
1512520 tn?1290258130 I am convinced it is from the Topamax since I have been on strong cold meds from the doctor for 2 weeks, I am giving it another few days and may go down to 75 mgs by cutting one of my 50 mg pills in half...can't afford to go see my psychiatrist again to get his advice so I m really self medicating right now.
237152 tn?1206651036 The pain clinic prescribed Topamax to help with my lower back pain, but I can't handle the side effects. I only took half the dose and I feel like I'm in a fog. I feel hungover and have NO energy. All I want to do is sleep, but I have a 3 year old tyrant to take care of, so Topamax won't work for me. Just had to throw that out there.
Avatar n tn I started taking Topamax a week ago tomorrow, I can tell you as strange as it may sound the only side effects I have had so far would be the tiredness, and that is not even that bad just over sleep a little in the AM. I have also lost the taste for my beloved diet coke. Other then that I have not really seen anything major going on. I am on 25mg to start and will go up to 50 mg starting next Friday. I am curious what will happen then but good luck to you.
Avatar n tn Most of the side effects are dose related. Here is more information about the medication: http://www.drugs.com/topamax.html . Sometimes, dividing the dose into several doses throughout the day may help. Also taking the smallest dose you can take is best to avoid the side effects. Initially, many people have side effects, but after your body gets used to the med. it goes away (usually after a week or 2).
Avatar f tn H. It was very nice of Tuck to list the side effects but remember, those are POSSIBLE side effects and not everyone reacts to the drug in that way. The Pharm Companys have to list ALL possible effects, even if they happened once to a patient. This does not neccesarily what will happen to you. Like I said you might not have any at all. Anyway, I thought I'd add that info. You have a nice day too.
1448748 tn?1312956208 so for you, are you saying the side effects are definitely not worth the relief? and you are going to probably stay on it and up the dosage but if it provides you with the same type of relief you would prob. discontinue?
Avatar f tn I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am currently Taking 200mg topamax a day for migraines have been for about 2 months now, stared on 25mg and built up to 200, but have Been on the 200 for 2 months.
Avatar n tn t seen any weight loss or side effects. Each week I will increase my dose 25mg. Does anyone have any advise for me. Does this topamax really help people loose weight. I'm a heavy pot smoker and that really gives me the munchies. I know that In order to stop eating at night I got to stop smoking pot. But overrall does Topamax work for weight and when will I see any changes?
468973 tn?1212323520 I have also have the exact same problem as you. I’m taking Topamax 50mg x3 @ bedtime as well. My mouth gets so dry my lips stick to my teeth and my throat sticks together when I swallow so I’m always drinking water. Let me know if you find a solution.
Avatar f tn I also take Topiramate (Topamax). Your side-effects are very similar to what I experienced when I started the medication. But, as Selma wrote, there is an adjustment period. It took me two or three weeks to adjust and things got better. When my Neuro increased the dosage the side effects did not seem to be as drastic. Now, three years on the med, I have very few side effects. Those that I do experience are tolerable in comparison to the migraine.
