Avatar f tn Hi...I have not found a med that takes my chiari HA's away, so I do not take them bcuz of side effects...however, everyone is diff and it is possible the drs may find something to take the edge off for her. I had surgery on my ankle and the pain meds from that surgery did not touch my chiari HA....we all must see what our bodies will or will not tollerate. I wish I could say more....u may want to try anti inflammatory foods...relaxation techniques...even accupunture.
Avatar f tn I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.
Avatar f tn I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.
Avatar f tn My doctor says that there are more side effects at higher doses. Unfortunately, I have had a headache for the last 2 days. May be due to the weather, storms?
Avatar f tn I am on my 2nd week of Topamax. Get ready for some very strange side effects. Your hands and feet and face will tingle and fall asleep. I have no appetite at all. I can go from breakfast to dinner of the next day and not be hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat. I'm forgetting things. I went to Wal Mart and forgot what i went there for. I am on it for migranes so im hoping i can stick it out because my headaches are unbearable. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I have been advised to take Celebrex or Topamax for headaches. Which treats headaches/migraines better? Which has had more success?
Avatar f tn I started taking Topamax a week ago. I have had a constant low pressure headache since. Also I have been experiencing odd heartbeats, night sweats, and dizziness. Does anyone else have the same symptoms? I have high hopes that Topamax will help with my extreme daily headaches and moderate depression.
Avatar m tn hello, anyone on topamax? I've been on it for about five weeks and its been great for my migraines but I've been having a lot of side effects! like tingling in my hand and feet and really bad heart burn every day! also get moody and cry. very bad fatigue too. will any of this go away???
681148 tn?1437661591 My friend who I mentioned earlier, she got kidney stones because of the topamax. This is one of the serious side-effects that topamax can cause, but it is a rare side-effect that only happens in some people. It can be avoided by most people as long as you drink and ENTIRE glass of water with every topamax pill you take. This is extremely important... never take topamax without water!!! But, for a very small number of people topamax can still cause kidney stones, which are extremely painful.
Avatar n tn Hello, Topamax can cause itching and erythematous rash in some individuals.Although the main side effects of topamax are slower reflexes, trouble thinking or concentrating, tiredness, poor coordination, and dizziness, yet it has shown itchy skin in some individuals. I feel that if you are showing any allergic reaction to topamax, pls stop taking it and consult your doctor for a change in prescription. You can take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin for itching.
Avatar m tn Patients taking Prozac may experience a host of side effects, including sexual dysfunction, dry mouth, nausea, headache, diarrhea, nervousness, restlessness, agitation, increased sweating, weight gain, insomnia and drowsiness." Do not stop any meds with out talking to ur Dr, BUT always tell ur Dr of side effects/.
Avatar f tn I have a lot of co-workers at a call center who have also tried topamax but say its not usefull and hated the side effects so they stopped.
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
Avatar f tn Tramadol addicting? Really. It is such a weak narcotic. Ultram is givin in place of Tylenol for moderate pain. It isn't ever used for severe. I just can't imagain it being addicting. There is very little side effects to it as well. Topamax on the other hand has major sideeffets. Many of which mimic chiari symptoms. It may be hard to tell what causes them the meds it the condition.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm on my 4th day of 25mg of Topamax for fibromyalgia and interstitial cystitis pain. In 3 more days I'll go up 25 mg more.
Avatar m tn http://www.rxlist.com/topamax-drug.htm). Diet modification and supplementation is a good alternative in decreasing the dosage and the associated side effects of certain medicatons such as topamax. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn I also take Topiramate (Topamax). Your side-effects are very similar to what I experienced when I started the medication. But, as Selma wrote, there is an adjustment period. It took me two or three weeks to adjust and things got better. When my Neuro increased the dosage the side effects did not seem to be as drastic. Now, three years on the med, I have very few side effects. Those that I do experience are tolerable in comparison to the migraine.
Avatar n tn Most of the side effects are dose related. Here is more information about the medication: http://www.drugs.com/topamax.html . Sometimes, dividing the dose into several doses throughout the day may help. Also taking the smallest dose you can take is best to avoid the side effects. Initially, many people have side effects, but after your body gets used to the med. it goes away (usually after a week or 2).
1512520 tn?1290258130 I am convinced it is from the Topamax since I have been on strong cold meds from the doctor for 2 weeks, I am giving it another few days and may go down to 75 mgs by cutting one of my 50 mg pills in half...can't afford to go see my psychiatrist again to get his advice so I m really self medicating right now.
324184 tn?1308076203 I abruptly stopped taking it [which I NOW know is not a good thing to do- too little too late] and almost a year later I am STILL having the side effects... the burning / tingling sensation all over my head. The only way I can really describe the way this feels is imagine having a sunburn on the top of your head and then it being pricked with pins and needles. Yeah, everyday... it's terrible. I have been to several doctors and they do not know whats going on.
633143 tn?1262133535 you see, if we weigh under a certain weight, our bodies may stop functioning properly. So, although you are right, one of the side-effects of Topamax can be weight loss, and it is used off-label as a weight loss medication, if 98lbs is under a healthy weight for your age and height category, then it may not be an appropriate medication for you. Mind you, if the Topamax is working wonders for your migraine/headache pain... it might also be a shame to take you off of it...
Avatar f tn you might see if they can put you on a medication in case you have a headache while on the topamax.
9584843 tn?1404686658 My nl wanted me on topomax but once i saw the side effects i realized taking meds would never be something i wanted to do long term. Thats when i decided to look at surgery as an option. But we are all different.
