Topamax problems

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax problems

topamax

Avatar n tn Topamax is used for a lot of things it isn't necessarily labeled for. It's also used for treatment of nerve-related pain. Docs love to give it to patients with spine pain because it's not a narcotic. I know topamax has helped people with pain, but I wasn't one of them. I got every side effect on the fine-print enclosure, including a wooden tongue and numb, nearly paralyzed extremeties. Hadn't even titrated up to a "therapeutic" dose yet.
Avatar f tn About 1.5 yrs now I have been on Topamax. Also around that time, my thyroid started acting up. I started losing my hair, cold hands and feet, feeling very tired, bad memory etc.. Now my symptoms have escalated. My memory is to the point where I can’t even remember simple words. I am depressed all the time and can’t get out of bed during the day. Then I can’t sleep at night. I'm having a hard time separating the side affects from the Topamax and the thyroid, which got me thinking.
Avatar f tn I have experienced the same! 6 months on topamax for migraine pain. Topamax caused seizures and thyroid problems plus numerous other smaller issues that compound to complete life altering issues. I cannot find a doctor in my network that will address this. They will only prescribe more drugs for the symptoms. They are incredibly uneducated in this next generation of doctors, only knowing how to prescribe drugs.
Avatar n tn I was taking Topamax, but it started my period up extremely heavy and painful. I do have Fibroid tumors in my uterus. Do you think it was the cause of it and if so do you know of something else I can go on to help with weight loss?
Avatar m tn Hi, From my previous posts...I was injured in a rocket explosion in Baghdad 4 months ago. I was knocked out for a few seconds and suffered a head concussion. Since coming back home, I started to have migraine like headaches along with other post mTBI symptoms (dizziness, cognative problems, etc). Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax).
Avatar n tn Consult the physician first, especially if your vision problems began after you started taking Topamax.
975514 tn?1324997938 I have been to a opthamoligist and that was my first confirmation. And i went to my neroligist he also said Topamax was not the cause of my eye sight problems. In fact i have a cateract in my left eye.I also stopped the Topamax for a little while. But i will go back to it in a couple months. It did help with the migranes. And i have been takeing it for Eight years with no problems. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I'm sorry to hear of your problems. Usually Topamax is tapered slowly, but if you were only on it for 10 days this may explain why your doctor took you off it all of a sudden. Anxiety and insomnia are common when stopping the medication. The decreased appetite is usually when you are taking the medication. If you are feeling suicidal, call you local suicide prevention hotline immediately since this can be a side effect. If you feel unsafe to yourself, call 911 or an ambulance.
Avatar m tn I on keppra, dalitin, and topamax to control seizures but now I have thyroid problems do you think is the seizures causing my thyroid problems or is the medicine ?

Avatar n tn I had been taking Topamax for migrane prevention but it was causing significant memory and thinking problems. I tappered off the Topamax over about 1 1/2 - two weeks. I am now wondering getting off Topamx caused me to have 2 siezures. What do you think?
Avatar f tn I also take a number of medications, including Topamax for migraine, blood pressure meds, Celebrex, asthma medication and diabetes medication. However I have had recurring visual disturbances that only happen at night. I get up in the middle of the night - to go to the bathroom - and the bathroom is covered in geometric patterns, like a checkered pattern or little lacework pattern. It's everywhere, the walls, tub, sink, floor. I feel like I'm tripping on something!
Avatar f tn I mean sometimes the treatment can cause worse problems. I have been put on zonigrine and its like topamax and its doing nothing for me so Im getting off of it. It too can cause kidney stones. Like we need anymore problems. I too pray you get answers.
1512520 tn?1290258130 I had mentioned my sinus problems to my neurologist but he discounted my claims that it could be side effects of the Topamax. But the more I thought about it my sinus problems were completely contained within the 6 months I had been taking Topamax. So finally, I decided to quit taking the Topamax. I knew I might get migraines if I did but I couldn't take one more minute of the sinusitis. I cut pills in half and took half pills for a week trying to wean myself off slowly.
633143 tn?1262133535 I also had this kind of crazy weight loss on Topamax. For me, it turned out to be the combination of the dosage of Topamax and other medications that made the weight loss so severe. I noticed that once I stopped taking Wellbutrin and as my headaches improved I lowered my dose of Topamax, the weight loss eased off and it took about 6 months to get back to my usual weight. Now I am back watching what I eat, instead of eating everything in site and losing weight!
Avatar f tn also after you took the topamax did you get kinda tired
Avatar n tn I have been on 200mg of topamax for 5-6 months now. They worked inredibly well for my migraines and I am grateful for the medication. In the last couple of months I started to notice some hair loss. At first it was not that bad, the pros of the medication outweighed the cons, but now my hair has started to fall out in chunks. I used to have very long thick curly hair. When I brush my hair it comes out in huge chunks...It used to take me an hour 1/2 to straighten my hair.
Avatar f tn When he prescribed the Topamax to me, my Neurologist suggested taking L-Tyrosine (an OTC amino acid) in a dosage of 500-1000mgs per day to counteract the lethargy and memory problems associated with Topamax. I took the Topamax for 3-4 days without the L-Tyrosine and was EXHAUSTED, so decided to try it. I have felt great since! I started with 500mgs and felt OK, then tried the 1000mgs and felt GREAT! So...I'd recommend it to anyone!
Avatar n tn finally my neurologist diagnosed me with complicated migraines, and prescribed me topamax about a year and a half ago. Since then he has boosted the dosage twice, and now i actually do have headaches everyday and my back continues to hurt even though he told me i would be only taking this medicine maximum two years. The pain in my back and neck has affected me alot and gets in the way of alot of my activites. do you think the doctor is wrong? i have an appt with him on the 30th of this month.
