They (VA neuros) diagnosed me with a seizure disorder. To treat me, they gave me topamax. That has helped with the seizures and the migraines. I occasionally get breakthrough migraines. They had to adjust the topamax a few times though. However over the past 3 years, I have also suffered from stomach palpatations, and I'd get really flush and I'd sweat. And I can't breathe. I also get tingling and numb in my hands and fingers. My primary care drs have told me its anxiety.
I take the birth control pill Minastrin 24 Fe and for about a month now I have been taking Topamax as a mood stabilizer. I recently had unprotected sex and I read that Topamax may interfere with oral contraceptives. If I still take my birth control pill at the same time everyday, should I be protected from pregnancy?

Ive been on carbatrol since 15 im now 27. And I used to take topamax up until my first pregnancy which was @ 23 years old. My neurologist said topamax was too dangerous. So with my first pregnancy i did have a seizure at like 4 weeks and I still kept on taking my medicine (carbatrol) afterwards. All came out fine with baby. Hes now 4 yrs old and now on my second pregnancy at 29 weeks and the baby is very healthy as well.
I use lithium and lamictal for my mood stabilizers and will stay on them through my pregnancy. The tentative plan is to add topamax after baby for the migraines and an added mood stabilizer boost. I am loving the possible side effect of weight loss as I am overweight, but I would be devastated if I lose my hair. I may have a migraine everday but they're not so bad I would hand over my hair for relief.
The pain kept getting worse and worse so I finally saw a nurse practitioner about 2 months ago and she put me on Topamax. I starting taking it and the headaches slowly dulled if anything and then a new pain started at the base of my skull by the middle of my lower neck. I had to recently stop taking the Topamax because I found out I was pregnant.
I have suffered from migraines since my late 20's. I am now 49. I have tried any and every migrained med, some work, some don't. My doctor has just suggested topamax. Has anyone taken this? Does it work? I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches.
I was on 50 mg topamax at bedtime and have recently decided to stop (per dr.)I was only on it for 10 days, but had terrible side effects. Since stopping the MEDs. the side effects are crazy! I feel all of this anxiety and I cannot sleep, I have bizarre thoughts and zero appetite. This has been going on since I stopped 2 days ago. Anyone else experience this and more importantly how many days til I feel better???
and i have bad peripheral vision .. my doctor prescribed topamax.. i am wondering how long it would take too notice the affects???
About 1.5 yrs now I have been on Topamax. Also around that time, my thyroid started acting up. I started losing my hair, cold hands and feet, feeling very tired, bad memory etc.. Now my symptoms have escalated. My memory is to the point where I can’t even remember simple words. I am depressed all the time and can’t get out of bed during the day. Then I can’t sleep at night.
I'm having a hard time separating the side affects from the Topamax and the thyroid, which got me thinking.

I was building the topamax up and lowering the lamictal down. Now I am just on the topamax. The side affects seem quite scary to me, severe dizziness and very off balance, I am always tired and have tingling in the hands and feet. I seem loss for words and confused. Will these side affects deteriorate over the a certain amount of time? It is difficult when I have to go to work and live everyday life. Please help.
My doctor recently started me on 25mg of Topamax twice daily. I am on day two, with no relieve yet. Can anyone tell me how long it will take to see any difference? Any information would be appreciated.
I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. My 2 yr. old grandson has been on topamax for his epilepsy for 4 months. Before that he was on another med that caused him to be very aggressive So we asked that his med be changed. He now barely eats anything solid everyday. He does drink pediasure 16 oz. a day. His weight has remained at 25 lbs. since starting the med. Should we try to have his med changed due to his loss of appetite since starting topamax /?
