I hope anyone who uses Topamax for any reason is fully aware of the serious risk of acute narrow angle glaucoma. I had read several articles about it but saw it firsthand last week. Topamax is a super nasty drug for most but for me - it has been ok - in that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks and at this point I have been on it for years. I went up very gradually as well and used the lowest dose possible that helped for years until I had to up it to the max.

Consult the "Blueblook" or PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) for information on the manufacturer of any drug. It's available in most libraries. But don't be surprised if they have no conversation with you. There is little other information than that which is in the PDR that they could provide you with.

You have to check the PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) which every drug store has. Bring your prescription. This contains every prescription medication legally produced in the United States. The druggest should not have blown you off. Locate the manufacturer from the PDR and request the druggest to order the medication.

I am type 2 and have been diagnosed with PDR in both eyes. I've been getting Lucentis injections and they have improved my vision. The retina specialist said there is a new drug about to get FDA approval and he thinks it will work better for me than Lucentis. Can anybody tell me anything about this drug? And what will it cost?

Your story is very common almost normal for treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy PDR . First of all your FA, OCT and eye exam will not be normal. You have diabetic retinopathy almost assuredly background DR and your PDR is inactive. Laser doesn't "cure" you it can just for a time stop progression. Laser works by killing tissue and creating scars so you have laser marks and scars inside your eye.

I have suffered from migraines since my late 20's. I am now 49. I have tried any and every migrained med, some work, some don't. My doctor has just suggested topamax. Has anyone taken this? Does it work? I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches.

Does anyone else here take Topamax for the intense spasms and jerking? If so PLZ reply and let me know if it helps?...how it affects U? If u have any better med suggestions for the intense jerking? I really need all the suggestions possible b4 I go back to the doc. Appreciate ur time....

I was on 50 mg topamax at bedtime and have recently decided to stop (per dr.)I was only on it for 10 days, but had terrible side effects. Since stopping the MEDs. the side effects are crazy! I feel all of this anxiety and I cannot sleep, I have bizarre thoughts and zero appetite. This has been going on since I stopped 2 days ago. Anyone else experience this and more importantly how many days til I feel better???

I have recently been diagnosed with basilar migraine and told to try Topamax, which I have to take over a period of months. We were hoping to have children soon, and were told I couldnt get pregnant while on this drug. What happens if we want to start trying for a baby, do I come off Topamax, and the symptoms come back? Or do I stay on it and not try for a baby for a long time???

and i have bad peripheral vision .. my doctor prescribed topamax.. i am wondering how long it would take too notice the affects???

Topamax is for migraines

About 1.5 yrs now I have been on Topamax. Also around that time, my thyroid started acting up. I started losing my hair, cold hands and feet, feeling very tired, bad memory etc.. Now my symptoms have escalated. My memory is to the point where I can’t even remember simple words. I am depressed all the time and can’t get out of bed during the day. Then I can’t sleep at night. I'm having a hard time separating the side affects from the Topamax and the thyroid, which got me thinking.

Hi there Dr perscribed me Topamax for my migraines and I am a little nervous to try them. I heard you can also lose weight with this. I quit smoking 4 weeks ago and have put on quite a bit of weight, so was wondering if you can share your experiences and side effects to see if it is worth it.

I was building the topamax up and lowering the lamictal down. Now I am just on the topamax. The side affects seem quite scary to me, severe dizziness and very off balance, I am always tired and have tingling in the hands and feet. I seem loss for words and confused. Will these side affects deteriorate over the a certain amount of time? It is difficult when I have to go to work and live everyday life. Please help.

My doctor recently started me on 25mg of Topamax twice daily. I am on day two, with no relieve yet. Can anyone tell me how long it will take to see any difference? Any information would be appreciated.

I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. My 2 yr. old grandson has been on topamax for his epilepsy for 4 months. Before that he was on another med that caused him to be very aggressive So we asked that his med be changed. He now barely eats anything solid everyday. He does drink pediasure 16 oz. a day. His weight has remained at 25 lbs. since starting the med. Should we try to have his med changed due to his loss of appetite since starting topamax /?

I started taking Topamax my junior year of high school, then I found out I had 4 kidney stones. The doctors think that it might have been because of the topamax, but I wasn't drinking enough water with it, so I think that could have been the problem. I want to try again and make sure I drink plenty of water..trust me, this time I will..lesson learned. First I have to collect my urine for 24 hours and send it away to be tested to see if my kidneys are functioning well.
