topamax

324184 tn?1308076203 The pain usually occurs while you are sleeping and you are awakened with the pain. Sometimes your eye will close slightly and wonder and your nose will run. Good luck to you and hope you can find a med that will work for you. I went thru several before I found one that worked for me. Good luck.
Avatar n tn All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?
1558393 tn?1299070031 I have had a lot less pain after coming off the Keppra. I start the Topamax Tues and I will let you know how that goes. Found out today Dr. Di that does my operations will not be in his new office for about 3 months, but he is worth the wait.
237152 tn?1206651036 My pain dortor gave it too me too and I had alot of success with it
Avatar f tn Has anyone had success with Topamax for neuropathic pain? Thanks in advance...
Avatar m tn I did experience a little joint pain in the elbows and wrists when I jumped to a higher dose. The pins and needle sensations came stronger and more often as well. In my feet it felt like bee stings, ouch. I did some digging online and found in the clinical trails potassium helped with the tingling so I tried that. I started out by just trying to add potassium rich foods to my diet and saw a difference on those days.
5857909 tn?1375628784 First of all sorry for my language but i do not speak English very well I have been taking Topamax for 10 years for the chronic headaches . The result has been excellent. For the past two years I can say that the pain is completely gone.
Avatar f tn I find that a warm/hot water bath soothes almost all kinds of pain. If your doctor is already giving medicines you may consider that. There's also the hot water bag/ thermal bag. That helps too.
Avatar f tn I have experienced the same! 6 months on topamax for migraine pain. Topamax caused seizures and thyroid problems plus numerous other smaller issues that compound to complete life altering issues. I cannot find a doctor in my network that will address this. They will only prescribe more drugs for the symptoms. They are incredibly uneducated in this next generation of doctors, only knowing how to prescribe drugs.
Avatar f tn Ive started having migraines since 2 years ago, and I started taking topamax when in pain. But, I don't take it every time since I don't want to get used to taking pain meds. I've also been using yaz pills for my PCOS that's what my OB prescribed me as to not worsen my migraine. Last month i shifted to yasmin pills i finished the pack 4 days after i started experiencing pain again. Headaches at first I thought it might be the medicine.
1687929 tn?1319426011 I agree with u...I was not on meds either...many Drs offered them instead of finding a dx...being post op, I am on a small dosage to try and control the HA's as I still need a few more surgeries....some of my pain is not touched with the small dose I am taking as the pain is joint pain and Topamax is to help control HA's.....
Avatar f tn I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.
681148 tn?1437661591 She still has pain and still needs to use strong pain medications for break-through pain but... without the topamax she would be completely disabled and would not be able to walk or use her hands at all. On the topamax she lives a very normal life! So, I think it is a very useful medication for chronic pain. For my chronic migraines, though, it did not bring them down to under 15+ migraines a month. So, my neurologist has also put me on a Beta Blocker and did Botox shots for me as well.
Avatar m tn So i posted this comment to try and get some answers from members who may have not experienced hair loss so it will encourage her to go back on Topamax as the pain has become worse also her Fatigue. I recommend you find a post on this site or the internet related to Topamax and Fibromyalgia and print it off and take to your Rheumatologist as there are 1000's of patient prescribed with Topamax in which to treat Fibromyalgia.
975514 tn?1324997938 If you are interested in tapering off of the Lyrica and utilizing the Topamax alone I would have a talk with your pain doctor about it. The optimum levels for pain are between 150mg and 200mg. I am currently at 175mg. You may be able to taper off the Lyrica and ramp up on the Topamax at the same time and have your pain doctor take over the prescription so that you can get a stronger dosage- 50mg in clinical trials wasn't even strong enough to help migraines. GSDgirl- Fironol???
Avatar n tn I took topamax for a month for chiari pain and feibro. It made me worse. I usually get most reactions to medicines though. I was depressed and angry all the time. After I stopped taking it I felt a lot better. I have chronic pain 24/7 and nothing works usually. I would rather not rely on pills. I have tried every pill and only ones that work at all and don't make me crazy are excedrin-works as well as anything else, vicodin and morphine.this is just my experience everyones body is different.
Avatar f tn I took Topamax for awhile trying to stop a "non-stop" headache. The side effects were bad enough for me that it was discontinued. The lack of balance and eye pain I had were what my neurologist decided were reasons to discontinue. The headache pain was as bad on Topamax as it was off Topamax, so it just wasn't the drug for me....
1759292 tn?1313064590 I've taken topamax, amitriptyline, depakote, neurotin, and loritab. The topamax didn't help and in fact made me feel worse. I stayed sick while I was on it and the dr took me off of it. Later on I discovered it is sulfa based. I am allergic to sulfa. Apparently either my dr didn't know it was made from sulfa...or didn't care. The amitriptyline never helped either and it made my neurogenic bladder worse. I literally could not pee at all by myself when I was on it.
Avatar f tn Im also taking Zoloft 100mg for depression, 25mg phenagen 3 x a day for nausea, 4mg tizanidine 3 x a day for muscle relaxer, 50mg of cymbalta for pain, 10/325 percocet 3 x a day for pain. I know this seems like a lot of medications, I was actually on a lot more narcotic medications until my insurance changed and I had to go to a new pain management doctor and he's trying to lower my nacrotic pain medicines, so he put me on Cmybalta, tizanidine, and now trying Topamax.
Avatar n tn Topomax has some common & uncommon side effects, and stomach pain & back pain fall into the uncommon, but the burning urination is a little concerning. What leads you to believe it could be appendicitis, and not something like a UTI, or bladder infection? Just curious. I'm not a doctor, just letting you know, but I have a little experience with Topomax (never experienced those particular side-effects myself mind you).
633143 tn?1262133535 If you cannot find another anticonvulsant that is appropriate, there are still the antidepressants that work for migraine pain, headache pain and chronic pain. There are also the Beta Blockers that work for migraine pain. And there is Botox Injections that work for migraine pain and some types of other headache pain. So... you do still have other options.
Avatar n tn Topamax is used for a lot of things it isn't necessarily labeled for. It's also used for treatment of nerve-related pain. Docs love to give it to patients with spine pain because it's not a narcotic. I know topamax has helped people with pain, but I wasn't one of them. I got every side effect on the fine-print enclosure, including a wooden tongue and numb, nearly paralyzed extremeties. Hadn't even titrated up to a "therapeutic" dose yet.
Avatar f tn Topamax is for migraines
Avatar f tn is topamax used to treat a back injury? everything that I reads say migraines, seizures, well I don't have seizures or migraines. I have a bad knee and I have a bad back. I started Topamax and it makes me feel so bad. The pain is worse than before? is this normal? my feet hand and vision are all affectative. Numbness in feet and hands, just plain can't see. blured vision. lousy feeling .
Avatar n tn Important information about Topamax Seek emergency medical attention if you have a sudden change in vision and pain around or behind the eyes. These may be early signs of a serious side effect of Topamax. Do not stop taking Topamax without first talking to your doctor, even if you feel better. You may have increased seizures if you stop taking Topamax suddenly. You will need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely.
