It started about 2000 and seems to be getting worse. I have terrible ear pain, 1-10 a 9, burning, tingling, and weak and very tight muscles in my neck, running all the way down my upper back. I have been on Rx Topamax and a Flexeril a muscle relaxer for years. Do you think it could possible be a pinched nerve in my neck ?
I have experienced the same! 6 months on topamax for migraine pain. Topamax caused seizures and thyroid problems plus numerous other smaller issues that compound to complete life altering issues. I cannot find a doctor in my network that will address this. They will only prescribe more drugs for the symptoms. They are incredibly uneducated in this next generation of doctors, only knowing how to prescribe drugs.
Your symptoms strongly suggest migraine and that is obviously what the neurologist thought as topomax is for migraine prevention. If you look at the product information brochure you will not it can cause acute glaucoma. The side effects you describe are enough to switch medicine. I would strongly suggest you contact your neurologist and tell him/her that the side effects are more than you can take. There are other medications available.
I starting taking it and the headaches slowly dulled if anything and then a new pain started at the base of my skull by the middle of my lower neck. I had to recently stop taking the Topamax because I found out I was pregnant. The headaches came back full force of course and my pain that was by my lower neck has moved to the back lower right side of my head and the pain is making me feel sick. I sometimes feel quite nauseated and very very sleepy.
They affect my balance,vision and on occasion my speech. I have noticed that the position of my head and neck may be connected to the onset of these pains. Can someone please give me some suggestions as to whats going on????
It does talk about how the Verapamil dilates the blood vessels. I have chronic neck pain as well as chronic migraines which the neurologists think that my neck pain is causing my migraines. That's why the nerve block injections and Botox injections in my neck is thought to help my migraines.
Unfortunately I couldn't tolerate the medication, also called Calan, but I'm really glad that you Smarty99 had such an incredible experience.
Hi, my name is lindsey and i am 18 years old and at first i had experienced severe back lower back pain. I then had some stroke symptoms like numbness, tingling sensations etc associated with pain in my lower back and neck. I had seen many doctors and run many tests incuding xrays, mri's and others. i have taken muscle relaxers, 800 mg ibeuprofen, and more than i forget. i went to a neurologist and they did some more tests which all came out clear.
Does anyone know if taking Topamax can lead to stiffening of the joints? I have been on Topamax for 5yrs and have had my left and right shoulders frozen in the past 2 years. I am in my late 40's and in good health and the ortho said this was very unusual. He said that some seizure meds may cause this and I knew that higher doses are taken for epilepsy. He said they had never looked into this. Also, I have recently had episodes of memory loss.
t take it because everytime i do it gives me such horrible chronic neck pain i cry from it worsening the headache worsening the neck pain like a domino effect till i have to sleep it off then i lose hours of the day. i was just wondering if anyone else has had the problem and has a possible solution.....
They discontinued my midrin! It's not like it helped 100% but still it was enough to lessen or take away the throbbing!
So my dr called in Tramadol for me to pick up tomorrow but I'd like some insight! I heard BAD things about this med and how it is so easy to get addicted to and also that it can make it hard for you to go to sleep or stay asleep, has anyone had this problem? I already jave problems with sleeping so dont need that to get worse! Has anyone taken Tramadol?

I was recently in hospital for initiation of new drugs for my inappropriate sinus tachycardia. The drugs (Ivabradine and Nebivolol) were successful while I was in hospital but since coming home I've been having complications.
Symptoms included aching, burning, and throbbing pain that can be on one or both sides of head and can have continuous/intermittent, shocking, shooting pain. Pain usually is over the neck, temple, and frontal regions. Ocassionally, neck movement extension/rotation may trigger this pain. ETC.....
There are many medications for treatment, or surgery is suggested if there is structural changes in the neck.

Hi, I Have had a very long history of migraine and terrible headaches all of my life then the pain at the back of my neck started and I went through an odyssey of doctors and heard everything from “you don’t have anything wrong with you-to go home in the waiting room are real patients”. In the end I at last by pure chance found a neurosurgeon that took me seriously and treated me as a real person.
I use ice and fiornal to control pain. sleep with ice packs on my neck. can this raise my blood pressure? it is high worse it gets so don't like the fact they just want to tell me to take bp med when a lot of time is is normal. can this pressure pinching pain be causing the high BP? thank you if anyone answers.

I was having a lot of neck pain, headaches almost everyday and have had tingling and numbness in my right hand for several years. In May, my head started going numb for several hours.
ve been trying like crazy to come to some conclusion as to why I have been suffering with the chronic muscle pain in my neck and at the base of my skull and upper back. I've had joint swelling and stiffness. I can't get a good night's sleep and have a feeling of "fullness" in my head all the time (feels like a vise around my head) my migraines are cyclical and are controlled pretty well with the topamax but I have had significant weight loss recently.
