Topamax low blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax low blood pressure

topamax

Prednisone would raise your blood pressure (blood sugar, etc), and that in turn could cause headaches and other symptoms. It should reduce the inflammation on your face, but alas, pred can have quite a few side effects.
I could easily get a prescription for Topamax as I have migraines and my doc and I talked about it at our last visit. I would also LOVE the weight loss side effect. Anyone that has or is taking Topamax - does it make you feel nervous? Does it make your heart beat faster and/or palpitations? I have anxiety so I can't use it if it will make me more nervous. Anybody have bad side effects from Topamax?
He ordered lab work, then later that day sent me to the ER because my potassium level was 2.7. While I was there, my blood pressure dropped to 50/33. I take 100 mg of Topamax a day for complicated migraines and 10 mg Maxalt Mlt prn for same, but I had taken no medication at all that day. What would cause my blood pressure to fluctuate so dramatically? I know my body well, and this is not the first time this has happened.
my daughter of 15 years has been suffering from migrane headaches for some mounths now and had a lumber puncure to get to the bottom of the problem, she was told her csf pressure was to great so removed a small amount of fluid, after 2 days she was readmited with a different headache of which we were told it was know a low pressure headache. 2 weeks in hospital passed and she had a blood patch which after 1 day she could stand up again (first time in 2 weeks) !
I believe it to be an excellent hospital. The Dr did another spinal tap and said that my pressure was low. It was an 8. What is the normal range? How low is an 8? What could cause it to be low? Is there medication to treat this? They decided against doing a blood patch since my headaches were not positional related. They are now doing a series of occipital nerve blocks. 8 over the next 8 weeks. What are treatment optionsif this does not work? Thanks for your advise.

I take 100 mg of Topamax a day for complicated migraines and 10 mg Maxalt Mlt prn for same, but I had taken no medication at all that day, and hadn't taken any Maxalt for several days prior. The ER physician said this was a problem for my pcp, but my pcp is clueless and I need answers.
Wondering if either of the two medications, Zonegran or Topamax would be contradicting with Raynauds Phenomenen. I typically experience low blood pressure on average of 105/65 but took the BP a little while ago and it was 112/78 so not sure if this medication is increasing it or this horrible migraine can raise your BP. For me 112/78 is high so if the way I am feeling is a result of that I sympathize so much with people who have high BP now that take meds to lower it.
I felt 100% better within 24 hours of stopping Topamax. However, after 1 week off the drug I am still having heart problems, low blood pressure, and blue fingers. I don't feel as mentally sharp as I used to. I am easily fatigued and wondering if I have permanently damaged my kidneys. I wouldn't recommend this drug to anyone now that I know what it does. Read medlineplus.com before you decide to have your wife stay on this drug.
Possible side effects of Clenbuterol include restlessness, palpitations, tremor (involuntary trembling of fingers), headache, increased perspiration, insomnia, possible muscle spasms, increased blood pressure, and nausea. Note that these side effects are of a temporary nature and usually subside after 8-10 days, despite continuation of the product. The most significant side effects are muscle cramps, nervousness, headaches, and increased blood pressure.
Talk to your dr. because I had blood work done for my thyroid and it should that I was on the low end of being Anemic. Take care V.E.J.
But, I am seriously contemplating asking my MD to prescribe Topamax for me for weight loss. I think maybe my blood pressure will also decrease, and I am sure my feet and joints won't hurt anymore if I can get this extra 60 lbs off me. As I said, I am 66 years young, and am interested if any other young seniors are in my shoes. Any comments for the older group will be greatly appreciated.
I have been prescribed Wellbutrin for depression and Topamax as a mood stabilizer. The combination worked very well for me and the bonus was that I lost weight. However, I also lost hair. I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same problem.
Beta blockers keep this from happening in some people so they will pass out or get dizzy upon standing or anything that lowers the blood pressure (cause the heart rate is blocked). Sometimes exercise can aggravate low blood pressure and so can getting overheated - I have this problem. I have bursts of tachycardia that make me feel like I'm going to die during exercise. This is due to a drop in blood pressure. Beta blockers can be very difficult for people to adjust to.
108 lbs 5 feet 2 inches, chlo 157 HGL 68, sugar level low, blood pressure PERFECT...never any signs of allergies, no nose dripping etc..just back headaches and all those doctor's were treating me for allergies, when now reading what Judy suggested..it all makes since...I'm not allergic..just was having reactions to 2 TOXIC THINGS..MSG AND ASPARTAME. That is the reason you are unable to keep the eyes open . IIH may not lead to high blood pressure but the raised blood pressure may be due to the stress because of headaches . Please consult another neurologist for the management of the symptoms . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
I was switched to Propranolol, a beta-blocker, and it seems to do a fairly good job of preventing my headaches, but the major side-effect I have to deal with while on this medication is being cold (it lowers blood pressure and decreases blood flow to the extremities, causing your body temperature to lower). Maybe ask your doctor about taking Provigil to help speed up your cognitive processes and keep you awake when Topamax makes you want to crash. I hope this helps!
I am on 100 mg of topamax a day ( 50mg 2x daily) and got a sinus infection on day 7 of starting topamax, been battling it for over a week now with antibiotics and it doesnt seem to be going away. Doctor said that I might have to decrease my topamax and I really dont want to as it seems to be working, if anything I was hoping to increase my topamax dose... Anyone else suffer this side effect, did it go away?

But now that I have terrible migraines, am dealing with the side effects of topirimate , am currently sat here with a heart monitor on for the next week after just returning a 24 hour blood pressure monitor, to get a phone call from my (clueless) GP to say that I need to go in and discuss my thyroid bloods has sent me slightly into a blind panic....do we know for sure that there is a link between topirimate and thyroid function?
I am on Topomax for papalledema. Basically, my brain hangs to low, blocks the flow of my spinal fluid and the pressure builds up in my brian behind my eyes.....annnnnnny whooo. I have been on it for a bit, slowly have gone up to 300 mg, slowly been having the wonderful weightloss side effect, but all my other side effects are oppisite of what is stated as what are probable side effects. Ok, no, I have not had any hairloss.
Hi Jen, sorry you are having problems, I know you had quiet a few problems with CM and other medical problems in the past. I think stress or any activity that will raise your Blood Pressure will cause CSF pressure to increase. Doing any thing strenuous even sneezing or coughing can cause problems for me. I know it is hard to avoid when you have kids lol but try and rest until you see your NS....
There is absolutely no way to predict who will get this side effect and it can occur even at very low doses. If you are already taking Topamax and you notice any early signs of vision loss or eye pain please see an ophthalmologist immediately.
The first two didn't do anything for my migraines, and the verapamil made my blood pressure so low I couldn't function. (My blood pressure is low to begin with, it doesn't bother me, it's just always been like that) I can't take the triptans, so for pain relief, those are out. (When I tried, my throat closed up to the point where I couldn't breathe at all, and I had to have an epinephrine injection).
Do any of these sound familiar to anyone that has experience with Topamax or is there something else happening? I am taking a pretty low dose (25mg).
*( Just to note, I have regular/low blood pressure, 32 y/o female, no prior history of migraines but have been diagnosed as having them. I have pressure in my head and can feel it behind my eyes and the back of my head when I stand up quickly, also when I stretch in the morning. My gums bleed easily and seem redder than normal but my dentist says I they are healthy, no gingivitis etc. I currently take Valium and Ibuprofin to help with the discomfort but it does not eliminate it.
) Her ocular pressure was actually only slightly elevated and with cessation of the Topamax, her pressure returned to normal in a day, while it took over a week for her vison to return to normal. It was extremely impressive the way the lens moved forward initially. After a week, the lens moved back to normal position and the eye looked completely different as if from another person. It was really something I will never forget.
Cortisol is *used* so if you are stressed, sick or whatever, it can vary quite a bit. With such a low blood pressure, they may have to consider adding a mineralcorticosteroid - aka florinef (that brand is not longer available but that is what everyone calls it) so that you can hold on to sodium better and keep your blood pressure up and feel better.
For over two years now, I have had numerous symptoms ranging from tinging in legs/arms, numbess in legs, pressure in head (not a dizzy feeling, just pressure), sporadic twitching in different areas, hard to enunciate at times, tongue tingling, sometimes I wake up and feel beaten up, like I worked out, pulling sensation in neck and under ears.
I dont think I have a Tumor, I dont have vision problems, balance issues, nausea, cognitive problems, vomiting, irritability, ear infection, ive never had sinus problems in my life, i dont have allergies, I have had blood pressure all over the map the last few months but i believe it tied to pain response and migraines. For the last week my BP has been very LOW. averaging 105/70.
You may get some good input with a post on the heart rhythm community. You could just cut and past the above, but you could get better results if you cut the length back with less on the anxiety concerns, sure mention them but put more emphasis on your heart specific symptoms. I think you should make an appointment to be checked by a Cardiologist. Didn't you primary care doctor raise that subject?
