topamax leg pain

I thought it was just because of the pregnancy but i only seem to get these certain symptoms with the pain. I had a CAT scan done back before I was put on Topamax but I am afraid the hospital I went to didn't do the CAT scan done right. They didn't use the contrast dye. Ive had a cat scan done before on my leg so was curious why they didn't. The hospital said they didn't see anything abnormal but I am starting to worry. What should I do??

I just wish my symptoms at least had some consistency to them, then I would be so much less likely to forget them! I have had this leg pain before (although not this bad), but it's not in my timeline because I forgot about it. Any suggestions on what to do for this sort of pain/discomfort?

I know I may be asking too much to be asking again but you did give me insight when you mentioned having chronic infections because at the time I was having severve tooth infections and had several teeth pulled.

I'll start from the beginning. I've suffered Insomnia for at least 10 years and have been on either Ambien or Ambien CR ever since. Some nights it works...others not so much. I'll also throw in that I've had a moderate bilateral hand tremor as long as I can remember and no doctor has ever given me a reason for it. OK, moving on. I also developed Migraines about 10 years ago and the solution was to try a parade of instant remedies (Imitrex, Relpax, etd.) of which NONE worked.

The pain usually occurs while you are sleeping and you are awakened with the pain. Sometimes your eye will close slightly and wonder and your nose will run. Good luck to you and hope you can find a med that will work for you. I went thru several before I found one that worked for me. Good luck.

All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?

Your symptoms strongly suggest migraine and that is obviously what the neurologist thought as topomax is for migraine prevention. If you look at the product information brochure you will not it can cause acute glaucoma. The side effects you describe are enough to switch medicine. I would strongly suggest you contact your neurologist and tell him/her that the side effects are more than you can take. There are other medications available.

I have had a lot less pain after coming off the Keppra. I start the Topamax Tues and I will let you know how that goes. Found out today Dr. Di that does my operations will not be in his new office for about 3 months, but he is worth the wait.

Hello, I have been getting migraine headaches for the past 15 years. For the past week I have had this horrible headache that I'm sure is not a migraine. It is all over my head but feel more pressure on the top and sides of my head. I wake up dizzy and nauseous every morning and feel that way for a few hours, after that its on and off all day. I haven't taken any medication for the past three days since they were not helping and even seemed to make me feel worse.

Has anyone had success with Topamax for neuropathic pain? Thanks in advance...

I did experience a little joint pain in the elbows and wrists when I jumped to a higher dose. The pins and needle sensations came stronger and more often as well. In my feet it felt like bee stings, ouch. I did some digging online and found in the clinical trails potassium helped with the tingling so I tried that. I started out by just trying to add potassium rich foods to my diet and saw a difference on those days.

First of all sorry for my language but i do not speak English very well I have been taking Topamax for 10 years for the chronic headaches . The result has been excellent. For the past two years I can say that the pain is completely gone.

I find that a warm/hot water bath soothes almost all kinds of pain. If your doctor is already giving medicines you may consider that. There's also the hot water bag/ thermal bag. That helps too.

I have experienced the same! 6 months on topamax for migraine pain. Topamax caused seizures and thyroid problems plus numerous other smaller issues that compound to complete life altering issues. I cannot find a doctor in my network that will address this. They will only prescribe more drugs for the symptoms. They are incredibly uneducated in this next generation of doctors, only knowing how to prescribe drugs.

Ive started having migraines since 2 years ago, and I started taking topamax when in pain. But, I don't take it every time since I don't want to get used to taking pain meds. I've also been using yaz pills for my PCOS that's what my OB prescribed me as to not worsen my migraine. Last month i shifted to yasmin pills i finished the pack 4 days after i started experiencing pain again. Headaches at first I thought it might be the medicine.

I agree with u...I was not on meds either...many Drs offered them instead of finding a dx...being post op, I am on a small dosage to try and control the HA's as I still need a few more surgeries....some of my pain is not touched with the small dose I am taking as the pain is joint pain and Topamax is to help control HA's.....

I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.

What is the athena blood test?...Had a headache now since May, all regular tests have come back normal, been ckecked for lupus MS and a hodge podge of things and still no results ..now they are talking about this athena test ...other sypmtoms are considered separate because they started later except for legs swelling. On Topamax 75 mg 2x day for it and still no results. can't use imitrex...bad reaction to it what does this test do to help find my problem and why does it cost so much!

She still has pain and still needs to use strong pain medications for break-through pain but... without the topamax she would be completely disabled and would not be able to walk or use her hands at all. On the topamax she lives a very normal life! So, I think it is a very useful medication for chronic pain. For my chronic migraines, though, it did not bring them down to under 15+ migraines a month. So, my neurologist has also put me on a Beta Blocker and did Botox shots for me as well.

I have been on them for 10+ years. I am still on Topamax and other meds. There is a long story befind this which I can not share right now. What I wanted to share is this, for anyone who has been diagnosed with complicated migraine, has numbness, vision impairment, weakness, speach problems, on one side of your body, please get re-checked. Your doctor can do a blood test now as these types of migraines have gene markers.

So i posted this comment to try and get some answers from members who may have not experienced hair loss so it will encourage her to go back on Topamax as the pain has become worse also her Fatigue. I recommend you find a post on this site or the internet related to Topamax and Fibromyalgia and print it off and take to your Rheumatologist as there are 1000's of patient prescribed with Topamax in which to treat Fibromyalgia.
