topamax

424862 tn?1203803456 Thanks for your reply, I am yet to start on Topamax, but this is what the neuro has prescribed for me. I was really wanting to find out as much as I can about it before I actually start taking it. My husband and I had planned on 'seeing what happened' when I came off the pill late summer '07. I then got really unwell again (this is 4th time I have been floored for months on end...) and so am not sure what to do now. I have since been back on the pill until I find out my options.
Avatar n tn Topamax is used alone or in combination with other medications to prevent seizures in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. Topamax is also used to prevent migraine headaches. It will only prevent migraine headaches or reduce the number of attacks. It will not treat a headache that has already begun. Topamax may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Avatar f tn I take the birth control pill Minastrin 24 Fe and for about a month now I have been taking Topamax as a mood stabilizer. I recently had unprotected sex and I read that Topamax may interfere with oral contraceptives. If I still take my birth control pill at the same time everyday, should I be protected from pregnancy?
324184 tn?1308076203 Be very careful if taking topamax. Some side effects are not mentioned nor discussed in detail by your neurologist.Kidney stones hurt worse than childbirth witout any pain medication. I should know...I delivered one of my children without any pain medicaiton at all. Stones are 1,000 times worse. Be very, very careful.
Avatar n tn My epilepsy is a lot like yours. I had my first and only seizure at 16. I am now 22 and expecting a baby in April! When I was dianosed with epilepsy they put me on topamax which was a wonder drug. It keep my seizures under contol perfectly. My husband and I married last year and decided early spring we were ready for kids.
Avatar n tn When I took topamax I had the same side effect, it gets worse in the winter with the cold weather. What I found out is that topamax depletes the potassium in your body, If you like bananas eat one a day and if you are like me you can get an otc potassium you just need 1-2 a day and I would take them depending on how my hands and feet felt. It is better to just eat a banana unstead of taking supplements but otc potassium is inexpensive.
Avatar m tn I did experience a little joint pain in the elbows and wrists when I jumped to a higher dose. The pins and needle sensations came stronger and more often as well. In my feet it felt like bee stings, ouch. I did some digging online and found in the clinical trails potassium helped with the tingling so I tried that. I started out by just trying to add potassium rich foods to my diet and saw a difference on those days.
Avatar f tn This drug is used to treat epilepsy in both children and adults. In many cases it can also be used as an antidepressant. In children it is also indicated for treatment of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a disorder that causes seizures and developmental delay). It is also Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved for, and now most frequently prescribed for, the prevention of migraines.
Avatar f tn Might want to consider checking into kidney stones...Topamax is known to cause a person to form them. I take Topamax for seizures and monitor possible side effects. Hope you get relief and find out soon. Please let us know what you are diagnosed.
Avatar f tn I was on Topamaz 200mg a day for headaches related to chiari but I did not have weakness, I had tingaling in my hands and feet but no weakness from the topamax and I took it for 3 years. I would call your doctor cause it may not be coming from the med. But since you had surgery maybe your body maybe reacting to it? I sure wouldnt let that go. As for the vertigo the topamax seemed to help it some but it didnt help the balance. Now im on 125mg of zonigran.

Avatar f tn Hi, ILAD is correct that Topomax is also used as a mood stabilizer, it's one that I've wanted to try (because of the weight loss) but it is not available as a mood stabilizer here according to my psych (I'm in the UK). I don't want to be personal but are you on any kind of contraceptive pill. I only ask this because the combined pill can have side effects which show up in your mood, such as irritability, depression etc. The progesterone only pill is a much better option.
Avatar m tn After much research it seems my only options are do nothing or surgery. My Neurologist has had me try topamax in the past but the side effects were horrifying. She now wants me to try Diamox. Any relief with this drug?? I am so afraid of taking any other drugs after the topamax. Side effects or any info would be much appreciated. I will meet with a NS next week to discuss the surgery. I fear the surgery will be too much for my family as I have 2 young children.
Avatar f tn campral is most effective when combined with some type of aftercare such as therapy or 12 step recovery programs. topamax was used in a study of 371 alcoholics at the medical university of sc which was published less than a year ago. at that time it was not fda approved for such therapies. in my opinion, there has not been enough research to merit such use if it has been approved.
Avatar f tn About 2 years ago, she was hit in the head with the handle bar of a bicycle, resulting in 12 staples in her head. They did not do a ct on her but said that she didn't suffer from a concussion. Her pediatrician has said that she can suffer from side effects for a year or so. Is this true? She is having a lot of pain and pressure in the area of the scarring. I am really starting to get worried. I cannot get a doctor to do any scans to check her out.
Avatar f tn The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists Topamax in Pregnancy Category C. This indicates that caution is advised, but the benefits of the medication may outweigh the potential risks. There have not been enough well-controlled studies in women, but studies in animals have shown some harm to the fetus. The babies of women taking seizure medicines have a greater than usual number of major birth defects like cleft lip, cleft palate, and heart malformations.
4705307 tn?1447970322 What a sad and tragic story. I can certainly understand your desire to raise awareness about the dangers of Topamax. Please be sure you're taking care of yourself, allow yourself to grieve your son's death. Some times, in a case like this, people "lose" themselves in the crusade, and don't give themselves ample time to properly grieve. It's important for YOUR emotional well being that you try to allow yourself to do that.
Avatar n tn Straterra is an anti-depressant type of medication. They use it for adhd and to stabilize behaviors/moods with children and adults. Though its rate of success isn't as high in children as adults it does work with some. Your son is too young for them to classify him as bi-polar, but ODD with the mood swings sounds more like that is the diagnosis you might be looking at, I am not a doctor, but you may want to ask. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi I just noticed 3-4 bumps in the back of my head. I have an avm in my brain and I am taking topamax 12.5 since past August. And since then I been noticing pimples on my face, all over my body and too much on my head. Unluckily every time I go see my doc she said that she can't see any in my head so it was never treated. So I don't know what to do? Anybody ? And now these bumps, I hope they are not related to my avm or a side effect of my medicine. ( I am 40 years old) .
Avatar f tn It seems to me that every neuro in the us really goes to topamax first for migraines, this concerns me. I went through 2 neuros who just kept upping and upping my topamax dosage w/o ever even talking about another preventative drug when the topamax didn't work. Finally, I got in with a headache specialist at a large neurology center and they put me on a 12 day run of frova, gave me a prescription for muscle relaxers and fiorcet, and an imitrex shot on the spot.
Avatar f tn I am currently on Depakote and just last week put on Topamax for a 59pd weight gain in eight months. I am miserable and looking for any encouragement I can get. I can't find anything that says I will or won't loss weight by adding this Topamax even thought my doctor said it should curve my appetite I'm willing to try anything. I don't have any midnight binges and use portion control when I eat breakfast and dinner. I don't snack but I'm not real good at exercising.
Avatar f tn I did order Topomax over the internet, (no 'script) because I try EVERYTHING to treat my Cervical Dystonia/ST. I really thought it was some zero (or close) harm trial and a homeopathic treatment. I had no idea it was a prescription a powerfull drug. It took me about 4 months to get the medication as it was shipped from Pakistan to the USA. The company posted 2 "home" addresses....one in Minnesota the other in Rome.
Avatar f tn also is it normal that i am so tired all of the time??
