topamax

681148 tn?1437661591 t worry, even though it feels like a bad and annoying side-effect, it is actually a good side-effect because it means that you are one of the people who the topamax is more likely to work for. So, try to wait out the side-effect if possible, because it should wear off... if the tingling is too intrusive, obviously you will have to stop taking the medication... but if you can wait it out, that would be better. My friend who I mentioned earlier, she got kidney stones because of the topamax.
Avatar n tn Are you under the care of a doctor? Typically, Topamax is a medication that you can stop taking safely by being weaned off of it, as opposed to just going "cold turkey". If you are taking a high dose of Topamax, I would definitely recommend checking with your doctor before you make any decision or plan for stopping use of this drug.
Avatar m tn I had to go off of Topamax and put on another med because I was high as a kite on it. Almost hallucinating - looking at the ground and seeing what looked like a sinking quicksand hole, etc. And the side effects did not go away over a couple months of trying so I had to go on something else. My metabolism is very messed up (insulin resistance, etc) and it is very difficult to lose weight, but I did with Topamax. Just watch out for the side effects, they can be quite serious.
Avatar n tn You may have increased seizures if you stop taking Topamax suddenly. You will need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. Contact your doctor if your seizures get worse or you have them more often while taking this medication. You may have thoughts about suicide while taking this medication. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits. Do not miss any scheduled appointments.
1130095 tn?1267369259 I was surprised that I was told to just do a straight swap and not wean off the gabapentin? I thought if you did that you would get have a fit which I really hope doesn't happen because in scotland they are really strict and I would loose my driving license for at least a year!!. Has anyone else come straight off Gabapentin?
1759292 tn?1313064590 I found the diamox helped but than they put the shunt in and it basically does the same thing. Vicodin made me not care it hurt and I could get stuff done. But everyone is diffrent and u just have to play around with things.
Avatar n tn Now what I had been doing and it does seem to work,... If you going to get high or take edible. Have something ready to eat that is healthy. Rather than chowing down a half gallon of chocolate ice cream, have a couple tuna sandwiches pre-made. Or chopped up apples with cinnamon sugar, or anything else that you like that's healthy ...prepare AHEAD of time so you won't make a last minute decision and get the munchies and eat an entire box of Oreos with a half gallon of skim milk...
Avatar f tn Two days ago I went to my first NL appt and he wasnt very nice IDK if it was he was being sarcastic a jerk or if that was just his tone of voice due to his accent. He took one look at my MRI's and couldnt figure out what a spot in the middle of what seemed to be my spinal cord was he keept asking "what is this? what is this?" then he would change the view and ask "what is this?"..... sent me to get a brain MIR and an other C-spine and some blood work I AM FREAKING OUT!
Avatar f tn Jode, Your dosage is on the light side. My wife tapered off Topamax but her symptoms and triggers are different then most. I'd suggest that maybe keep trying it until you get leveled off for a little while at 75mg then if you don't notice any changes then you might want to ask your Doctor to taper off. Be well and God Bless.
Avatar f tn Thank you. Are you on Topamax? If so, what dosage? My doctor says that there are more side effects at higher doses. Unfortunately, I have had a headache for the last 2 days. May be due to the weather, storms?
1202354 tn?1267655734 But when I went back to the doc today I had my blood tested I learned I was getting my migrains becasue of and iron deficiance so no more topamax!! Feeling so much better!!! Thank you guys so much for you post!!
Avatar m tn I recently jumped from about 25mg/50mg to 100mg a day of topamax. Since then, I have whan my doctor has says is tendonitis in both hands, wrist and middle arms. Strange I think. I have taken a strong anti-inflammatory, and then the steriod pack, heat, ice, etc, etc, rest, arms splints all that for 2 weeks. No change. Still top of hands, top of wrists looks swollen, hurts to bend wrists. Tingling (pins and needles) sensensation.
284078 tn?1282616698 So, if you are taking Topamax or getting ready to increase you dose or considering starting it - please, please take my advice and remember that it can cause sudden worsening of your vision, and if an attack of narrow angle glaucoma starts, you can develop severe eye pain, extreme headache, nausea, vomiting and nearly complete loss of vision.
768044 tn?1294223436 I am currently taking topamax. Before topamax I tried valproic acid and before that I tried amitriptyline. On the topamax my migraines are currently happening still 15+ a month. Hence wanting to try something else too... When I asked my neurologist about the botox, he said that I couldn't mix the topamax and botox treatments. I hadn't heard this before. He said that in the clinical trials, the people who were on a comination of treatments showed worse results.
Avatar n tn I am not epileptic but two different medications prescribed to me over the past 20 years caused me to have seizures so now I have to take this topamax every day now. Once you have a seizure you bodies tolerance level is to having another is quite high. I am on a very low dosage and I used to get the odd migraine and now this med has helped with that to. So if someone asks I don't have epilepsy I have a seizure disorder due to medications. So I can't take a lot of medications.
1655289 tn?1326042889 I was prescribed Topomax by my primary before I could get into see the pdoc. The first thing the pdoc did was take me off the topomax. He said it was a rather ineffective drug for bipolar compared to other drugs. I doubt your doctor would allow a switch from Ziprexa straight to Topomax. Maybe though they would switch to something more weight neutral like risperadol or geodone. I am on geodone and lost my Ziprexa weight. Problem is though now I am too skinny and having troubles keeping weight on.
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have the same symptoms? I have high hopes that Topamax will help with my extreme daily headaches and moderate depression.
975514 tn?1324997938 Oh ok. Sorry I goofed that one up didn't I. I have never taken Fiorinal, so I can't really comment on it's effectiveness. You may be able to get away with taking just the Topamax alone, but you'd have to be at a high dose for pain relief as well as migraine relief. You would have to try it and see how your body reacts. I hope this helps.
1415174 tn?1453243103 The neurologist said I may be able to get off the Topamax because the vertigo may be due to the thyroid does that sound right? Will I eventually be able to just go back to my usual Sumatriptan and be taking synthroid instead and this will control the vertigo?
