topamax

Avatar n tn Anyone take generic Topamax for migraine prevention? Please share your review if you do. I'm about to start it but am apprehensive as all I've read in researching is it's got a high side affect profile.
1512520 tn?1290258130 How many people are taking Topamax Vs the Generic? I am taking the GENERIC and I'm dealing with CONSTANT running and dripping of my sinuses! The medicine I was on prior was horrible. It was 6months of tests, withdrawals, and it took 3months to get it out of my system. Now, I finally found a medicine that seems to control the spells... It would be nice if I DIDN'T have a runny nose. Could it be the Generic?
Avatar f tn You should be able to get the generic topamax at any Walmart pharmacy. If anxiety or stress are the root problem for his migraines, it would be very important to identify what the stressors are and try to eliminate them. I would suggest that he try the topamax before any anxiety medication. Klonopin and its generics can lead to addiction problems and it dosen't take many daily doses to get to comfortable with it.
Avatar f tn I take 100mg Topamax (actually I take the generic Topiramate) once per day. I've been on and off of this for a few years. But started taking the generic last year due to the insurance company making me switch. Anyway, when I switched to the generic, I have since started having a lot of pressure behind my left eye and into my cheek. Also, sometimes behind my right eye, but that's rarely. It's daily behind my left eye. This has been going on for a few months.
Avatar f tn I have experienced the same! 6 months on topamax for migraine pain. Topamax caused seizures and thyroid problems plus numerous other smaller issues that compound to complete life altering issues. I cannot find a doctor in my network that will address this. They will only prescribe more drugs for the symptoms. They are incredibly uneducated in this next generation of doctors, only knowing how to prescribe drugs.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am currently taking the brand name wellburtrin and I believe I am taking the generic topamax (so, i guess that would just be topiramate then, which is the generic name). But, I have often had my prescriptions filled with the generic wellburtrin, just for some reason they filled it with the brand name wellbutrin last time which is actuallly unusual because often the insurance won't ever cover brand name prescriptions.
1524673 tn?1327841500 We tried topamax (likely it was generic)- he mentioned how he heard some people liked it, I think it was in Europe, for the side effect it helped them lose weight. Well, it made me nervous, shaky, and my supervisor (before I was disabled) noticed a change in the pitch of my voice! So, dr. & I discontinued that experiment. Each person is different- no one size fits all when it comes to preventatives!
Avatar n tn Topamax is used for a lot of things it isn't necessarily labeled for. It's also used for treatment of nerve-related pain. Docs love to give it to patients with spine pain because it's not a narcotic. I know topamax has helped people with pain, but I wasn't one of them. I got every side effect on the fine-print enclosure, including a wooden tongue and numb, nearly paralyzed extremeties. Hadn't even titrated up to a "therapeutic" dose yet.
3140085 tn?1342843508 a few years ago the dr had me take topamax and i really liked it. can you take topamax with prozac? or would I just need the topamax only? I'm really in a bind because i can not afford to see the dr.
2104296 tn?1334841551 I have Migraines from time to time. I was given the drug Topamax from my old doctor. I just got a new doctor and she took me off cause of the huge side effects I was experiencing Which was a good thing. I was also on the pain medication Vicodin to take when needed, too take the edge off the pain. The new doctor does not want me to take any kind of pain medication to help take the edge off. I think she is afraid of prescribing pain meds to anyone.
1512520 tn?1290258130 Yes, please keep me posted how the Topamax works for you. My neuro wants to put me on it for recurring tension headaches and I could certainly use the weight loss side effect lol.
1759292 tn?1313064590 I've taken topamax, amitriptyline, depakote, neurotin, and loritab. The topamax didn't help and in fact made me feel worse. I stayed sick while I was on it and the dr took me off of it. Later on I discovered it is sulfa based. I am allergic to sulfa. Apparently either my dr didn't know it was made from sulfa...or didn't care. The amitriptyline never helped either and it made my neurogenic bladder worse. I literally could not pee at all by myself when I was on it.
7486852 tn?1410352184 My new neurologist wants me to try depakote after keppra, dilantin, and dilantin and topamax together have failed. They did not control my seizures and I had horrible side effects. I have been using my medical marijuana which my neurologist never had anything bad to say about it just wants me to try another pill as well. I'm worried about the side effects and whether they will work when these others haven't..
Avatar n tn this is not really all that new, and it is the generic of TOPAMAX...this can take 2 weeks to adjust to....so u may feel extremely tired and off balance with this.... I did lose weight, and not sure how it works, but I gained it all back and I am still on the med....so it is not a weight loss miracle. I have noticed a change in taste as well as smells...so I know that did affect what I eat.... Good luck and again be advised most do need an adjustment period to this med.
Avatar f tn Hey Everyone - Not quite sure where to post this one...but since most of my problems are pit problems, it seems to fit OK here. So I'm not a very big drinker but socially, I'll have a drink a two, and it's been that way for a few years or so. I've always been a little bit of a lightweight, I get a buzz pretty easily and I figured it was because I was on a lot of medications but I was always careful.
Avatar n tn I am a 40 yr old female with a history of migraines. I've always used Topamax as a maintenance rx & Imitrex injections as a rescue rx. My migraines have been under control for over a yr. In the last 3 months, my headaches have returned. I have also noticed that memory (short & long term) & my cognitive skills have been affected. I.E. I can't remember parts of conversations that I only had 5 minutes ago.
Avatar m tn And neurology Dr did not know about that . Topamax generic manuf, called me back today and confirmed that the drug does raise eye pressure , they are calling my dr to talk to him. Thanks for your help. I have been on this 25 mg 7 days and 50mg 5 days so far. Going to see my glaucoma dr 10.22.16.
Avatar f tn Has any of your symtoms started after to Topamax? and if so have the doctors run a Topamax level. Another issue is sometime there are problems with the name brand and the generic. A good place to start is with your pharmacist He can get you a full list of side effects and th other stuff that is in the pill. A good site to use to look up any medicine is Drugs.com or EMC medicine guide. Good luck to you. i will add you to my prayer list.
Avatar f tn I feel like theres no hope. Does Topamax work for this? I see a neurologist on Thursday. Hope I get some insight!
Avatar f tn About 1.5 yrs now I have been on Topamax. Also around that time, my thyroid started acting up. I started losing my hair, cold hands and feet, feeling very tired, bad memory etc.. Now my symptoms have escalated. My memory is to the point where I can’t even remember simple words. I am depressed all the time and can’t get out of bed during the day. Then I can’t sleep at night. I'm having a hard time separating the side affects from the Topamax and the thyroid, which got me thinking.
Avatar f tn Welbutrin has worked for me for years, but about 8 days after starting Topamax for migraine control, the depression is kicking my butt. Could the Topamax be responsible? I would rather have migraines than be depressed!
Avatar n tn I was taking Topamax, but it started my period up extremely heavy and painful. I do have Fibroid tumors in my uterus. Do you think it was the cause of it and if so do you know of something else I can go on to help with weight loss?
Avatar m tn Hi, From my previous posts...I was injured in a rocket explosion in Baghdad 4 months ago. I was knocked out for a few seconds and suffered a head concussion. Since coming back home, I started to have migraine like headaches along with other post mTBI symptoms (dizziness, cognative problems, etc). Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax).
