Common Questions and Answers about Topamax generic name

topamax

Avatar f tn Hi, I am currently taking the brand name wellburtrin and I believe I am taking the generic topamax (so, i guess that would just be topiramate then, which is the generic name). But, I have often had my prescriptions filled with the generic wellburtrin, just for some reason they filled it with the brand name wellbutrin last time which is actuallly unusual because often the insurance won't ever cover brand name prescriptions.
Avatar n tn Anyone take generic Topamax for migraine prevention? Please share your review if you do. I'm about to start it but am apprehensive as all I've read in researching is it's got a high side affect profile.
Avatar f tn You should be able to get the generic topamax at any Walmart pharmacy. If anxiety or stress are the root problem for his migraines, it would be very important to identify what the stressors are and try to eliminate them. I would suggest that he try the topamax before any anxiety medication. Klonopin and its generics can lead to addiction problems and it dosen't take many daily doses to get to comfortable with it.
3140085 tn?1342843508 Lamictal is generic in the US... lamotrigine is the generic name. I wouldn't try lamotrigine without a doctor as it has to be increased very slowly due to the risk of the Stevens-Johnson rash.
Avatar n tn The neurologist seems to think that my headaches returned because I was switched from the name brand TOPAMAX to the generic TOPIRAMATE. The time line of the med change & the return of the headaches would fit. However, I'm more concerned with my loss of memory & cognitive skills.
1524673 tn?1327841500 I knew there had to be a reason why neurologists preferred to stick with Triptans. I never heard of any of the forms of Cambia, including the generic name. I'm usually given whatever the next thing the neurologist thinks should be tried. He never mentioned this one. He doesn't seem to be a fan of Topamax for migraines either. I'm sure he might at some point in time if everything else has been tried.
1512520 tn?1290258130 How many people are taking Topamax Vs the Generic? I am taking the GENERIC and I'm dealing with CONSTANT running and dripping of my sinuses! The medicine I was on prior was horrible. It was 6months of tests, withdrawals, and it took 3months to get it out of my system. Now, I finally found a medicine that seems to control the spells... It would be nice if I DIDN'T have a runny nose. Could it be the Generic?
1134609 tn?1269272200 ----I stabilized completely last summer and I was on the brand name version of the medication. When I switched over to the generic, I started having problems and had to increased the dose from 900mgs to 1600mgs over the space of a few months. Any changes in the dosages over this time dropped me into a deep depression and I HAD to drop the dosage many times because it was agitating me. I just assumed it was because I was adjusting to the medication.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.
2104296 tn?1334841551 I have Migraines from time to time. I was given the drug Topamax from my old doctor. I just got a new doctor and she took me off cause of the huge side effects I was experiencing Which was a good thing. I was also on the pain medication Vicodin to take when needed, too take the edge off the pain. The new doctor does not want me to take any kind of pain medication to help take the edge off. I think she is afraid of prescribing pain meds to anyone.
1512520 tn?1290258130 Yes, please keep me posted how the Topamax works for you. My neuro wants to put me on it for recurring tension headaches and I could certainly use the weight loss side effect lol.
1759292 tn?1313064590 I've taken topamax, amitriptyline, depakote, neurotin, and loritab. The topamax didn't help and in fact made me feel worse. I stayed sick while I was on it and the dr took me off of it. Later on I discovered it is sulfa based. I am allergic to sulfa. Apparently either my dr didn't know it was made from sulfa...or didn't care. The amitriptyline never helped either and it made my neurogenic bladder worse. I literally could not pee at all by myself when I was on it.
Avatar f tn Another issue is sometime there are problems with the name brand and the generic. A good place to start is with your pharmacist He can get you a full list of side effects and th other stuff that is in the pill. A good site to use to look up any medicine is Drugs.com or EMC medicine guide. Good luck to you. i will add you to my prayer list.
Avatar f tn I found this: (Lamotrigine is the generic name) "16. How does lamotrigine interact with prescription and over-the-counter medications? Only a few interactions between lamotrigine and other drugs have been identified. Lamotrigine increases the plasma level of carbamazepine and its metabolites. Carbamazepine lowers the concentration of lamotrigine in the blood.
Avatar n tn this is not really all that new, and it is the generic of TOPAMAX...this can take 2 weeks to adjust to....so u may feel extremely tired and off balance with this.... I did lose weight, and not sure how it works, but I gained it all back and I am still on the med....so it is not a weight loss miracle. I have noticed a change in taste as well as smells...so I know that did affect what I eat.... Good luck and again be advised most do need an adjustment period to this med.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Topiramate, which is the generic for Topamax for several years for peripheral neuropathy... I already had my thyroid condition when I started taking the Topiramate, but it has not affected my thyroid condition in any way, at all. Topamax does have some unwanted side effects for some people, so it's not effective for everyone. Your doctor should know this and be willing to address the issue...
Avatar m tn My doctor has diagnosed me with peripheral neuropathy- small fiber. He has gone as far as to do the tilt table test on me. He said it was severe. I'm in constant pain!!! If you put on a sheet it feels like there's a course sand paper that is on them. My Doc has tried Amatryptoline(sp) nothing, He wanted to try Lyrica but my Insurance denied it saying they wanted neurontin instead.
Avatar f tn I feel like theres no hope. Does Topamax work for this? I see a neurologist on Thursday. Hope I get some insight!
Avatar f tn what is a generic drug?
Avatar n tn 0 down to 0.
Avatar f tn I take 100mg Topamax (actually I take the generic Topiramate) once per day. I've been on and off of this for a few years. But started taking the generic last year due to the insurance company making me switch. Anyway, when I switched to the generic, I have since started having a lot of pressure behind my left eye and into my cheek. Also, sometimes behind my right eye, but that's rarely. It's daily behind my left eye. This has been going on for a few months.
Avatar f tn Welbutrin has worked for me for years, but about 8 days after starting Topamax for migraine control, the depression is kicking my butt. Could the Topamax be responsible? I would rather have migraines than be depressed!
