I coughed myself awake this morning, which scared the heck out of me. And now my husband tells me that I've been coughing in my sleep since my NL started me on topamax. Current list of meds Topiramate (topamax) 50mg 1 tablet 2 times daily, Amitriptyline 100mg 1 tablet at bedtime, Cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) 10mg 1 tablet at bedtime, and Butalbital/APAP/Caffeine (fioricet) 1 tablet to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
And my ENT has me on Diazepam 2mg 1 tablet 3 times daily.

I am taking Topamax for my bulimia. I have suffered with this for So so long. I was on topamax once before and it did help quite a bit, for quite awhile. For an unrelated reason, I had to stop it. I just began it again, and I have to say, I am having a hard time staring it. The side effects are much more exagerated then what I remember. Severe anxiety, depression and extreme senistivity to touch. I was to start with 50 mg a day...and increase from there. I just can't.
ll give you my opinion and input. Personally, I take Topamax for bingeing and purging and it really, really helps me. However, I would not recommend it if you have a urges to restrict, or have struggled with restricting or anorexia in the past.
Also, I can really relate to where you are right now with everything. I've been there, and I feel for you. It's a rough place to be. Your anxiety seems to be pretty high. Have you ever taken anything for anxiety that has helped you?
I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. Please let me know so that I can discuss this with my neurologist about adding Topamax back into my daily routine. Thank you, any help you could give would be wonderful.
I have been on 100mg of Topamax for almost a month (the 22nd of this month) for cluster headaches and have had a variety of side effects. I take 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night. I thought I was going to lose my mind honestly. But I was told that the side effects would taper off more than likely. Which the vast majority have. I no longer feel dumber than a rock (I wasn't even able to compose an email without reading it very slowly 4-5 times before sending it). And I feel pretty normal.
I was taking Topamax, but it started my period up extremely heavy and painful. I do have Fibroid tumors in my uterus. Do you think it was the cause of it and if so do you know of something else I can go on to help with weight loss?
I started taking Topamax a week ago tomorrow, I can tell you as strange as it may sound the only side effects I have had so far would be the tiredness, and that is not even that bad just over sleep a little in the AM. I have also lost the taste for my beloved diet coke. Other then that I have not really seen anything major going on. I am on 25mg to start and will go up to 50 mg starting next Friday. I am curious what will happen then but good luck to you.
I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.
It could be those that had a hair loss issue also had a thyroid issue and assumed it was the topamax......????
Yes I do have other symptoms of hypothyroidism, I have read that some of the symptoms include dry skin and dry hair, and I have those two symptoms also. I have been taking Topamax for migrain Headaches do you think that it could be making me gain weight? Also very recently I had Chronic sinunitus do think that could have caused me to gain weight?
I feel that if you are showing any allergic reaction to topamax,pls stop taking it and consult your doctor for a change in prescription.You can take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin for itching.Application of calamine lotion is also soothing.You can apply 1% hydrocortisone cream like dermacort on the itchy areas.If symptoms persist then pls consult your doctor.Oral steroids are needed.

I just started on topamax for 2 days on 25mg for headaches i had headaches for a long time. Im worried about this drug and mixing it with other drugs that i take. Im HIV positive and i take stribld everyday before bed my nero doc wants me to take topamax before bed as well. So im taking both of these pills at the same time and i care about my hiv drugs working without interuptions because the virus will get a chance to mutate. So will topamax interfere with stribld?
I want to try a drug to help me with the withdrawel affects of the crutch of eating for emotional needs. My Psychiatrist said Celexa, Prozac or Zoloft are my options. Celexa being the main one.
I am concerned that I will gain weight though from their affects. I am also concerned it will increase my appetite.
Will it help me with my mental addiction for the need to eat all the time?
Can anybody help me? Has anybody had experience with it?

I was on Wellbutrin before the tumor/surgery and was feeling great. Afterward they put me on fluoxetine and topamax (I no longer have migraines and weaned myself off both). About a month ago I wanted to try stopping the Wellbutrin, and my gp told me to just stop it (300 xl). I was hesitant but decided to try it. I lasted about a month and noticed I was starting to feel weird so I went back on (been about 4 weeks now). Here's the question!
Her symptoms have been minimal, headaches every few weeks, until these past two years when she began having headaches everyday. Some have been so bad that all she does is sleep all day. She has been put on 250 mg of Topamax which is as high as her doctor is wiling to put her without risking damage to her liver or kidneys and it isn't helping as much as she would like it to be.
