I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
My doc said topamax is not safe for the baby but a seizure would be worse. We switched to Lamictal which is safer for the baby. I was also put on folic acid which will prevent a clef pallet which is the biggest birth defect for of baby born from epilepsy patients. We found out 3 weeks ago that we are pregnant an so far the baby is perfectly healthy!
Don't give up hope of having a child. With a close watch from you neuro and obgyn and the right meds. It's very possible!
I am a 44year old woman who was hit by a car at a 12, I was thrown 20 feet into a curb were my head hit. I had a closed head injury or that's what I was told. I started having trimmers in my hands after the accident and had migrians for many years. I started having seizures in my 30's after a botched surgery on my esophagus. Is it possible that left Temporal lobe Seizures can cause split personalities later in life.
My daughter is 11 and has scarring in her left temporal lobe and was started on Topamax a year and a half ago. She had had a grand mal seizure, but her main seizures consisted of a funny feeling in her stomach and dizziness. The doctor she was seeing said once she was seizure free for 2 years (she has been seizure free a year and half) she would recommend a second opinion but would like to try taking her off her Topamax. Her doctor has since left the practice and on the last appt.
havent took it today still cuz i want to stop freaking me out i was at a event yesterday took half a cup of liquor and freaked out remembering im on this and paniked made a scene couldne sleep like i dont kno now its still in my head can i stop it or is it ok to drink weekends atleas or here and there and is it tur if u never has w=seizures it may cause seizures in then long wong or if u stop it ive taken like i said in my system i have like 200 mg ive taken 4 of 50 mg so far have yet to keep g
Hi, I am currently on an increasing dosage of topamax for suspected seizures - although the seizures are very mild and random. I am not the type of person who likes to take medication and I have had a read on a couple of different forums about topamax and there seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding the drug with some pretty scary side effects.
Can anyone enlighten me with some success stories??

The DR put him on keppra (in which had too many side effects), then Topamax and valium, in which he stayed on for 2 1/2 months. He continued to have the seizures, sometimes 4 a day, and sometimes 3 days in between them. At this point he was 17 months old, and after researching the effects of topamax online myself and no seizures for 4 weeks, I slowly and correctly weaned him off of the medication all together. He has had no seizure since then....
Thank you. Neuro said it was acting as a toxic in my system and changed meds. I have tried ambien, lunesta and adavan all to no success. My neuro said hospital if I dont sleep soon. What do you think hospital will do?? thank you.
The EEG report suggested to consider complex partial seizures. I was placed on Topamax to which I had a bad reaction and was taken off after two weeks. I am now on Trileptal for now to see how my body tolerates that. WHatI need to know is if there are any other tests that can be run to confirm if in fact those spikes or discharges are complex partial seizures. The only physical manifestion I presented with was a tremor in my right arm.
