4971738 tn?1390565384 Any reviews on topamax? I am takin 200mg for over two month and I have not notice any weight loss!
Avatar n tn Please google Topamax side effects or Topamax reviews and you will see many people with a lot of the same symptoms as you. Good luck to you and God Bless.
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
Avatar f tn i have migraines and take topamax....it does relieve the headaches as a daily medication, just as long as they get the dosing correct. (and make sure you take it at the same time every day) i have noticed if i take it late then i tend to have the headaches the next day. you might see if they can put you on a medication in case you have a headache while on the topamax.
Avatar f tn I have Chronic Migraines for the past 4 or 5 years. A Migraine that never goes away, I have tried several medications for it but nothing helps. I have a small cyst at the right side base of my brain, and was wondering that could be possibly a trigger in causing migraine.
1033165 tn?1309435416 Hormone changes trigger migraines for sure! The good news is that once you FINISH menopause, the chances of you getting another migraine ever is very very small! Most women who are post-menopausal never get migraines ever again! So... that is something to look forward to now. As for this very moment. In clinical studies... increasing topamax more than 100mg has not shown to be effective at helping migraines. Although, I've heard people here on the boards talk about much higher dosages.
Avatar f tn After our discharge, we have continued with nausea, vomiting all weekend. We did increase her topamax to 50 mg and this is a side effect of this drug. We are truly at a loss and feel helpless. Our child is suffering, missed three weeks of school and doesn't want to do much of anything. This is so uncharacteristic of her as she is a great student and enjoys playing soccer. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
324184 tn?1308076203 About a year ago I went to a neurologist for migraines... He put me on Topomax [despite knowing that I have had several kidney stones in the past- which I found out that this medication can cause] anyways, I immediately started having a reaction to this medication... a burning sensation all over my scalp, face and neck. I called my Dr. and he said I may just be my body trying to adjust to the medication.... so I stayed on it 3 weeks and then couldn't take it anymore.
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here started taking or tried the drug Topamax for their migraines???
Avatar n tn I use topamax 125mg daily for preventative therapy. I also use 400mg of B2 daily for preventative therapy. To supplement acute therapy, I use naproxen (a prescription NSAID). As for some suggestions... yeah... what DrNoopurMD said!
Avatar f tn I have been on 25mg of topamax for a few weeks for migraines. I decided to stop taking it. Migraines are worse and I can't sleep.how long after I stop taking to topamax until I can take Tylenol PM? My last dose was last night. Thanks!!
Avatar f tn I had daily headaches/migraines for months and the last thing we tried was topomax. It caused me to have incredible reactions that resembled a stroke at one point so I quit taking it after I talked with my doctor. I was also taking Prilosec for some nausea. For some reason I had forgotten to take the prilosec for a couple days and hadn't had a headache. Got in the car to start a 6 hr trip and thought I should take it since I would be eating out a lot over the next few days.
4014307 tn?1349055699 Apologies for the delay I thought I sent a reply but apparently I didn't. I take Topamax to control the migraines i get and I forgot if I had already took my dose for the evening or not. I went ahead and took my pill. I fell asleep and was pretty tired the next day. I'm not sure if I doubled up. I am trying to better track when I take my medicine so when I am 'foggy' I have it notated. I am feeling a little better. This depression has been kicking my butt.
1655289 tn?1326042889 It is know for causing cognitive deficits. Although if you have migraines it is good for that.
Avatar f tn Hi, I would suggest you to discuss with your doctor if Topamax will be suitable for you. Topamax has proved to be very effective for migraine prophylaxis. Recent studies have shown that Topamax is very effective for reducing the frequency and severity of migraines. http://www.*************.com/migraine/medications/topamax.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/topamax-migraine.html Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn hello, anyone on topamax? I've been on it for about five weeks and its been great for my migraines but I've been having a lot of side effects! like tingling in my hand and feet and really bad heart burn every day! also get moody and cry. very bad fatigue too. will any of this go away???
Avatar f tn It seems to me that every neuro in the us really goes to topamax first for migraines, this concerns me. I went through 2 neuros who just kept upping and upping my topamax dosage w/o ever even talking about another preventative drug when the topamax didn't work. Finally, I got in with a headache specialist at a large neurology center and they put me on a 12 day run of frova, gave me a prescription for muscle relaxers and fiorcet, and an imitrex shot on the spot.
Avatar f tn i have these migraines and i think only on one side it seems.. my right side .. every time i have one which is most of the time.. my right eye shrinks down.. and i have bad peripheral vision .. my doctor prescribed topamax.. i am wondering how long it would take too notice the affects???
Avatar f tn Hi.....I have both migraines and depression. My neuro doc put me on Topamax (I take it daily) for migraine management and when I do get "breakthrough" migraines I take Maxalt. The Topamax has worked wonders!!! But it isn't without some nasty side effects. Initially it causes your feet, hands and face to tingle (that goes away)....but it plays hell with your memory (not everyone gets this, but I did). It takes away your appetite (at least it did for me).
Avatar f tn I have had migraines for at least the past 10 years, as often as every other day. I was put on 100 mg of Topamax daily in September 2008, which helped immensely. I would still get migraines approximately twice a month, however. My migraines are triggered by bright sunlight (I live in Arizona!), orange juice, citrus, chocolate, processed foods, alcohol, some smells, pms, etc.
324184 tn?1308076203 If your daughter starts topamax, be sure to find a urologist. One of the major side effects of topamax is kidney stones. After taking it for my migraines for two years, I had kidney's full of stones. I have had three operations to rid myself of them and the surgery/recovery is very painful. The neurologist found out that I was in the hospital for a week ( the first time) and no kidding..yelled into the phone.. OH MY GOSH...ITS THE TOPAMAX!
Avatar f tn The pain kept getting worse and worse so I finally saw a nurse practitioner about 2 months ago and she put me on Topamax. I starting taking it and the headaches slowly dulled if anything and then a new pain started at the base of my skull by the middle of my lower neck. I had to recently stop taking the Topamax because I found out I was pregnant.
Avatar n tn I have been taking topamax for 3 months for migraines. I’ve been getting them everyday for about 2 years (if I don’t have a headache, I have pressure behind my eyes which makes me feel tired). Well, I titrated up to 90 mgs of topamax and since I reached 90 mgs, the past month I’ve been headache free (YAY) until 5 days ago.
Avatar f tn Can anyone offer input on their experience with Topamax for migraines. Initially, the side effects were worsening migraines, worsening dizziness, fatigue and tingling in upper lip and nose so I stopped the med. Tried again and got vertigo. Dr. thinks we should stick it out and titer upwards to gain effectiveness. Wondering if smallest dosage is nearly intolerable how titering upwards could possibly be effective or if it actually does get better once your system gets used to it.
