topamax

324184 tn?1308076203 If your daughter starts topamax, be sure to find a urologist. One of the major side effects of topamax is kidney stones. After taking it for my migraines for two years, I had kidney's full of stones. I have had three operations to rid myself of them and the surgery/recovery is very painful. The neurologist found out that I was in the hospital for a week ( the first time) and no kidding..yelled into the phone.. OH MY GOSH...ITS THE TOPAMAX!
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
Avatar n tn I would see a neurologist. For my migraines I take topamax daily and imitrex when I actually am starting to get a headache. There are many headaches that are allergy related and sleep related that mimic migraines. Just my experience.
Avatar f tn I had periorbital migraines and was placed on Topamax, technically an anti-seizure but also great for migraine/headache control and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. That for a while was the only thing that worked for me. It can have a sedative and appetite suppressant effect. I was also shortly on a low dose of Elavil for migraines. Carefull with that one, take only the amount prescribed.
Avatar f tn I have Chronic Migraines for the past 4 or 5 years. A Migraine that never goes away, I have tried several medications for it but nothing helps. I have a small cyst at the right side base of my brain, and was wondering that could be possibly a trigger in causing migraine.
Avatar m tn Ecspecially with children, anyway, how does phenobarbitol work to stop the pain of a migraine??? At the moment I am only on Topamax and take tramadol for fibromyagia, so I use that for the migraines as well. Triptains give me sever heart palapitations and cause my stomach and colon to bleed so they are not an option??? Any feedback???
1033165 tn?1309435416 I just finally started getting them under control until a few months ago when I started getting what apears to be signs of menapause starting and now I get migraines again 3-4 days in a row every other week. What help is there to stop this now. Increase topamax or what? Help these hurt and makes it very hard to deal with going to work and family life. Family doctor is doing lab work on my in about 3 wks for this when he rechecks my synthroid levels. But that can seem so far away.
Avatar f tn Pain was constant throbbing and sometimes stabbing. Light and noise sensitive. On topamax and neurontin. Been in the hospital twice in two weeks. We are currently hospitalized since Monday. Nerve blocks to occipital bones, frontal and temporal region. Some relief, but still pain in temples. Nausea persists. I've asked that they stop the toradol intravenously because I feel with all the steroids and NSAIDS this could be tearing her stomach up.
1597714 tn?1299828089 from what i can tell for me the lorazipam and topamax has worked the best on my migraines. when i was given it in the beginning it also helped my seizures but as time has passed its not helped as much now on the seizures.. it still helps on my migraines.. (at least most of them, it came close 2 times that i almost went to the hospital for help).
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here started taking or tried the drug Topamax for their migraines???
Avatar n tn I use topamax 125mg daily for preventative therapy. I also use 400mg of B2 daily for preventative therapy. To supplement acute therapy, I use naproxen (a prescription NSAID). As for some suggestions... yeah... what DrNoopurMD said!
424862 tn?1203803456 We were hoping to have children soon, and were told I couldnt get pregnant while on this drug. What happens if we want to start trying for a baby, do I come off Topamax, and the symptoms come back? Or do I stay on it and not try for a baby for a long time???
Avatar f tn I was put on Topamax in 2006 For Migraines/Stress Headaches. I lost my Mother,Father,Husband all within a 16 month period. But migraines also run in the family. I was also type 2 Diabetic sometime my sugar was so high it wouldn't register on my meter. But taking the Topamax starting at 200mg at night then going to 400mg . Put my migraines under control . For a short time.
Avatar f tn I had daily headaches/migraines for months and the last thing we tried was topomax. It caused me to have incredible reactions that resembled a stroke at one point so I quit taking it after I talked with my doctor. I was also taking Prilosec for some nausea. For some reason I had forgotten to take the prilosec for a couple days and hadn't had a headache. Got in the car to start a 6 hr trip and thought I should take it since I would be eating out a lot over the next few days.
1655289 tn?1326042889 Topamax does tend to cause weight loss, but trust me, this is not the way you want to lose weight. Topamax (I was taking it for bipolar) first of all did nothing for my moods. I was back in the hospital a few months after first being prescribed this, along with seroquel and ativan for panic and anxiety. That's not what makes this medicine so undesirable though. With each dose increase, I had numbness in my legs and arms. This could continue for as long as 2 weeks after a dose increase.
Avatar f tn Hi, I would suggest you to discuss with your doctor if Topamax will be suitable for you. Topamax has proved to be very effective for migraine prophylaxis. Recent studies have shown that Topamax is very effective for reducing the frequency and severity of migraines. http://www.*************.com/migraine/medications/topamax.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/topamax-migraine.html Hope this helps!
4705307 tn?1447970322 Oh I'm so sorry for your tragic loss. I'm assuming he had been in treatment for depression or the like? How long had he been on the Topamax? What was he prescribed it for? Unfortunately, some medications do cause an increase (or new) suicidal ideations, and Topamax is one of them. There are very clear warnings about this explained in the educations material that comes with the medication. Did he talk to his doctor about this? Was he aware of it? I'm just so sorry.
Avatar m tn hello, anyone on topamax? I've been on it for about five weeks and its been great for my migraines but I've been having a lot of side effects! like tingling in my hand and feet and really bad heart burn every day! also get moody and cry. very bad fatigue too. will any of this go away???
Avatar f tn It seems to me that every neuro in the us really goes to topamax first for migraines, this concerns me. I went through 2 neuros who just kept upping and upping my topamax dosage w/o ever even talking about another preventative drug when the topamax didn't work. Finally, I got in with a headache specialist at a large neurology center and they put me on a 12 day run of frova, gave me a prescription for muscle relaxers and fiorcet, and an imitrex shot on the spot.
Avatar f tn also is it normal that i am so tired all of the time??
Avatar f tn Just checking in. I had one aura without migraine pain in September 2014 and was quite surprised. It has been a year and a half since that odd one.and no migraines. Still talking KAL magnesium glycinate 200mg twice a day, 400 total. So in 7 years just one migraine! Good luck everyone.
Avatar n tn If you see a chronic pain doctor, you can also trust them to give you the botox, or if your family doctor has given botox for migraines before, then you can trust them to give you botox for migraines... but, in most cases, for migraines, it is better to have a neurologist give you the botox. I can understand how frustrating it is that your headaches came back after a month of being pain free. My headaches are extremely frustrating for me too... but, stay hopeful!
Avatar f tn Hi there Dr perscribed me Topamax for my migraines and I am a little nervous to try them. I heard you can also lose weight with this. I quit smoking 4 weeks ago and have put on quite a bit of weight, so was wondering if you can share your experiences and side effects to see if it is worth it.
Avatar f tn Can anyone offer input on their experience with Topamax for migraines. Initially, the side effects were worsening migraines, worsening dizziness, fatigue and tingling in upper lip and nose so I stopped the med. Tried again and got vertigo. Dr. thinks we should stick it out and titer upwards to gain effectiveness. Wondering if smallest dosage is nearly intolerable how titering upwards could possibly be effective or if it actually does get better once your system gets used to it.
