I take the birth control pill Minastrin 24 Fe and for about a month now I have been taking Topamax as a mood stabilizer. I recently had unprotected sex and I read that Topamax may interfere with oral contraceptives. If I still take my birth control pill at the same time everyday, should I be protected from pregnancy?
I had periorbital migraines and was placed on Topamax, technically an anti-seizure but also great for migraine/headache control and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. That for a while was the only thing that worked for me. It can have a sedative and appetite suppressant effect. I was also shortly on a low dose of Elavil for migraines. Carefull with that one, take only the amount prescribed.
An NSAID is good for inflammation, Anti-Seizure (like Lyrica, Neurontin or Topamax) medications are good for nerve pain. If Lyrica made your fiance too drowsy, Topamax might be a better alternative. This is what I take instead. It's in the same class, but has different side effects. Many people do not get as drowsy. Muscle relaxers can help too.
Everyone's cocktail is different, because everyone's reacts differently to medications.

When I don't take a pill the next day I can tell because I get a major Migraine and it's obviously not fun! anyways the questions I am trying to ask is.
It could be those that had a hair loss issue also had a thyroid issue and assumed it was the topamax......????

I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. I have been taking topamax for 3 months for migraines. I’ve been getting them everyday for about 2 years (if I don’t have a headache, I have pressure behind my eyes which makes me feel tired). Well, I titrated up to 90 mgs of topamax and since I reached 90 mgs, the past month I’ve been headache free (YAY) until 5 days ago.

I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.
By cauterizing the area around the site where the electric impulse should begin, it only allows for one electrical impulse instead of many electrical impulses (as we see in Afib) to cause our heart muscle to contract and relax. It helps to control Afib and hopefully will correct it.
Its usually a simple procedure performed in a cath lab and if I remember correctly a patient will need to stay in the hospital a day or two (but dont quote me here).

I took topamax for a month for chiari pain and feibro. It made me worse. I usually get most reactions to medicines though. I was depressed and angry all the time. After I stopped taking it I felt a lot better. I have chronic pain 24/7 and nothing works usually. I would rather not rely on pills. I have tried every pill and only ones that work at all and don't make me crazy are excedrin-works as well as anything else, vicodin and morphine.this is just my experience everyones body is different.
I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
I also was suffering from migraines and trouble sleeping, and was started on Topamax for the control of the headaches and Elavil for to help me sleep. One of the side effects of Topamax is tingling in the extremities, so although my headaches did decrease the tingling sensation increased for a while. Then it abated and I was fine for a couple of months, until I started experiencing the tingling again, this time accompanied by numbness and weakness in my arms and legs.
i am just starting to take a low dose of topamax at 50mg a day and not going to increase to more than 100mg a day and i am wondering if this will interfere with my lutera pills?? i have read that it lowers the effectiveness but i have also read that it doesnt happen until you reach doses of 200mg or more. i have also heard that by increasing your birth control dose you can help the effectiveness and my doctor specifically prescribed lutera because it has a higher dosage than most BC.
It is good news your OCD is under control. If you are using Topamax alone for weight loss, it may not give you the desired results. It works to reduce appetite, and your craving for munching might be reducing its effect. You need to make some healthy choices. Quit smoking pot; it will help you lose weight at a much faster pace.
This is an impulse control disorder. They know they are doing harm to themselves but can not stop the impulse. Depression and anxiety go hand in hand with this as well.
It is tricky to treat. A psychiatrist usually is involved or a psychologist. They do what is called habit reversal therapy. So important to get a handle on it. My niece is now in her mid 20's. She has a 4,000 dollar hair piece she wears.
