topamax

468973 tn?1212323520 So glad I found your post! I have been dieting so I haven't really drank many carbonated drinks lately...but I have noticed here recently in the past couple of weeks that sodas seem horribly flat to me. Even beer (major disappointment haha). My ears have been itching like crazy and I just figured it was an allergy or something. But then I read on to see your other couple of comment add ons.
Avatar f tn I had been on Topamax for almost three years. Suddenly in end of January my headaches came back. I was weaned off of the Topomax to Amitryptaline 100mg at night to prevent the headaches. It was also noted that I had an AVM on the left periatal lobe of the brain in addition to a cavernous hemangioma on the right frontal lobe. My headaches have continued despite the increase of Amitryptaline. Last night I had such a terrible headache I could not sleep.
Avatar f tn It could be those that had a hair loss issue also had a thyroid issue and assumed it was the topamax......????
Avatar n tn But in your case if depakote it working for you try to stick with it. As for topamax I had a bad experience Suffered memory loss. Did you try asking your doctor is there anything he can do for the weight gain.
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Hi! I'm hoping that anyone here who is taking Lyrica for nerve pain will be able to answer something for me...I'm newly on Lyrica (300mg daily) for chronic migraines/headaches and alot of burning that I've been having in my head. Neurologist gave Lyrica instead of Topamax b/c he said there's more than just the migraine issue going on b/c of all the burning. However, it's still officially undiagnosed at the present. I'm having very positive results so far.
Avatar f tn If your dr is putting u on anti-depressants for your migraines ask about if you would benifit from Wellbutrin I had weight loss from that one and if i remember right it will help with your headaches or i know for a fact Topamax works well on my cronic migraines anyway but I have to take other stuff for the mental side. those are a couple suggestions you can discuss with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I had periorbital migraines and was placed on Topamax, technically an anti-seizure but also great for migraine/headache control and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. That for a while was the only thing that worked for me. It can have a sedative and appetite suppressant effect. I was also shortly on a low dose of Elavil for migraines. Carefull with that one, take only the amount prescribed.
1655289 tn?1326042889 Topamax does tend to cause weight loss, but trust me, this is not the way you want to lose weight. Topamax (I was taking it for bipolar) first of all did nothing for my moods. I was back in the hospital a few months after first being prescribed this, along with seroquel and ativan for panic and anxiety. That's not what makes this medicine so undesirable though. With each dose increase, I had numbness in my legs and arms. This could continue for as long as 2 weeks after a dose increase.
Avatar m tn An NSAID is good for inflammation, Anti-Seizure (like Lyrica, Neurontin or Topamax) medications are good for nerve pain. If Lyrica made your fiance too drowsy, Topamax might be a better alternative. This is what I take instead. It's in the same class, but has different side effects. Many people do not get as drowsy. Muscle relaxers can help too. Everyone's cocktail is different, because everyone's reacts differently to medications.
5150207 tn?1374211560 I have been on Topamax for migraines since I was 23 & I my dose had been upped last year, but I never thought it could be due to that where it had just happen here recently. I guess you never really know, though. Another thing I can discuss that I would have never thought of. Thank you!
Avatar f tn is anyone else on these two? I was recently diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and the doctor put me on lexapro and topamax. I have now heard horror stories about topamax and I don't want to take it. I want to know some alternatives.
614508 tn?1265281722 Has anyone had any interactions/reactions with the drug Topamax when prescribed for BPII & OCD. My understanding from the drug handout is that it is normally prescribed for migraines, seizures and weight loss. My doc has just increased my dosage to 100mg 3x per day. I have experienced some deterioration in my eyesight however I'm not sure if that's attributed to age (hadn't had my eyes examined in 2 years) or the Topamax which I've been on a lower doze for 6 weeks.
1655449 tn?1302089876 I have been on topamax for migraines for eleven months now and have lost a ton of weight...at first i had same side effects and it was very scary, but they do lessen in time and i find not having as many migraines well worth the first 6 weeks of strange speech, confusion, side pain etc. i make myself drink enough water each day...and with the help of excercise i have lost around 27kgs...definitly dampens my appetite!!.
2932946 tn?1344722012 I also have often had a nagging headache post-surgery (nothing like before, but I'd still rather not have it) and am currently trying Diamox Sequels to reduce my high ICP. I'm on a half-dose now and it seems to help with the headache without causing the unpleasant side effects that the full dose caused. I assume that you've had a repeat MRI to make sure that you don't have a leak, pseudomeningocele, etc.?
Avatar f tn The only thing Geodon did for me when I withdrew from it was give me violent hallucinations which landed me in the hospital. I was extremely skinny anyway because I'm on Topamax for alcohol abstinence; my dosage was increased; lost a little more which came back when I was put on Seroquel. Anyway, depending on what you were on the Geodon for, ask your doctor about going on Topamax. Weight loss is a side effect.
Avatar f tn I used to take Topamax for nerver pain, it was the only anti-seizure med that really worked well for the pain, and I had three attacks of kidney stones before I found out it was the Topamax causing them. I had to stop taking it, but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. I did a little research on it and in a small percentage of people it actually does do this, but my urologist only knew of one other person who took Topamax and had kidney stones.
Avatar n tn I was just prescribed the drug for frequent migrains and was wondering why and how it causes weight loss? Does it decrease your ap?
Avatar f tn Suppose you drink 4 sodas/day - switch out one of them for water. Do this for a week, then switch out another for water; do that for a week, the switch out another for water, until eventually, you don't drink sodas, but you drink a lot of water (you can also do unsweetened tea, coffee, etc... they all count as water. So let's start with calculating your calorie needs and go from there. Do you do any exercise? If so, how much, how often? What type?
Business woman1 And also stop working out for a while to avoid more problems
Avatar m tn I would ask him or her which food plan would be best for you based on your medical history. The best of luck .
Avatar m tn Can we prevent obesity by dieting? But i Heard that dieting is not good for health?
400610 tn?1201703516 i know that orange juice has a lot of sugar, but because it's orange juice, is it not a healthy drink? i love orange juice. if it's not, then i'll have to stop drinking it, but it will be difficult. i've only been dieting for two weeks, now. i weighed 230 lbs, when i started. i'm only 5'4". i'd like to lose 65 -70 lbs. i'm running every weekday and doing push-ups and sit-ups, everyday. also, i'm doing a good job of eating healthy. no fried foods.
Avatar f tn Dieting is frowned upon but exercise is usually ok unless you have other medical problems. Just watch what you eat & go for walks or go swimming. Both are great during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn When it comes to healthy choices and dieting, how do you turn down fast food, and start healthy habits???
529994 tn?1212850084 I was diagnosed with PCOS in May. They started me on Metformin at 500mg 2x/day, which was too harsh on my stomach. They dropped me down to 250mg 2x/day, which I seem to tolerate ok. I've lost about 10 lbs so far--since May, but I've given up my fast food, and soda-diet & regular. You might want to try doing something along those lines first. I was on Atkins about 4 years ago, and it's really, really tough. I lost 55lbs while on it, and then got pregnant.
