topamax

Good luck with the Topamax. It will even things out for you, for sure. If you have kids, they will really appreciate it!
I take Topamax 100 mg once a day for migraines. I have found that it has worked wonders for me. I don't get migraines very often anymore. I was out about once a week before taking topamax and now its much less than that and when I do get them they are at least manageable. sherrilynn- I find it interesting the effect topamax had on your eating habits as I have found it to have the opposite on mine. For the most part my appetite has decreased, except for during my period of course.
) sorry for rambling just don't know anyone on here.
( I am on a bed check schedule w/ one of the newer detox facilities here, this will be my 4 or 5, and Im wanting to atleast start this topamax before I leave for detox in hopes that it does curve cravings, I can cut down, therefore making the detox proccess less intense. Thank you for input, I really do appreciate it. Personal ? Are you guys recovering or active?
I'm starting Topamax in two days for bad migraines. I'm a little worried about some of the side effects, however I'm quite excited about the weight loss. I could stand to lose about 50 lbs. I know it's possible I will not lose weight but a girl can dream. :) I'm curious to hear other peoples weight loss stories on Topamax. also any other side effects noted. Thanks!
I started taking Topamax 1 1/2 years ago for my headaches and to my surprise it help my bulimia significally. I take 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night and has really made a huge difference for ME. Is this normal?? Why is it helping me? I have not said a word to my doctor about it helping the bulimia as she and everyone else is unaware of my problem with bulimia.
My doctor has prescribed Topamax for weight loss... I was also on Zoloft ( 100mg) for aniexty.. however after being on Topamax for over a month now I must say that I feel wonderful!!!! I have lost a total of 16lbs.... which is great b/c I'm 5'7 and 195 lbs.. I'm weaning myself off the Zoloft....the only side effect that I am experiencing with the topamax is I feel a little goofy at times and my spelling and overall loss of words at times can be bothersome....
My dr. put me on Topamax... for migranes, but also for weightloss... He says it will really kick in and start helping me shed weight once I get up to the 150-200mg mark. I am currently on 100mg's/day and will increase to 150mgs by the weeks end...then 200mg's by the following week... Anyone else use this drug and what are your experiances at the different dosage levels? I have no headaches at all which I love...
Hi I just wanted to tell my story, I went back to the doctor today and they have to wean me off the Topamax I was on it for Migraines. I am also on Wellbutrin for depression and have been for years. They put me on the Topamax about 3 weeks ago I have notice some weight lost however I went "crazy" lol.
I've been on Topamax for about a year now at 75mg x 2 day i can put up with most of the side effects but the last few weeks i've been getting hair loss. i did not know this was one of the side effects of Topamax and the only way i found out was by going on the web , i think we should get told more about this side effect of topamax it's not nice seeing your hair washing away every time you want to wash your hair.
I have been treated with Topamax for nearly a year now. It has been proven to be great. Sid effects in the begining were unplesent but they vary from person to person. In my case we also had therapy sessions so that also helps alot. It's a drug you should take responsibly, I find that when I forget to take it, then I go through the side effects all over again. Good luck!
I have been on Topamax for 2.5 years now for Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD). The current dose is 400mg for more than half that time. Many years ago I was on Lithium and gained 200lbs during the 6 year period that I was taking it. But after I went off the drug and went to a natural regimen, found that my body would not allow me to lose any substantial amount of weight without gaining it back. I carried this weight for 15 years.
I am aware of the fact that it is a mood stabilizer however I was told that it helps with cravings for alcohol also . Is this true? Is this a drug that can help alcoholics with their cravings ?
-) In reference to the comments above, what about Wellbutrin for opiate (heroin specifically)cravings ? Or are dopamine cravings different from opiate cravings ? And do you mean the slow release wellbutrin ? And also since depakote is an anticonvulsant, can it safely be used with wellbutrin to prevent seizures ? Also, what exactly is neurotin ? Sorry for all the questions.... and thanks for the answers! Brighty.
Memory was a problem before, I don't see a lot of difference now. Searching for a word is a problem some times these days. I still eat, but much less, which is wonderful. I think total loss since March 5th is 8 lbs. I get hungry but get full much sooner and don't want/need a snack in the evening or mid-afternoon. No cravings and some things don't taste 'wonderful'. I.E. a Hershey bar tastes like chocolate, but just doesn't taste GREAT, just 'OK'. Nothing special. I love this side effect.
I am currently on 150 mg. of Effexor. I am finding that I have a craving for carbohydrates. Then I over eat and have put on 25 pounds. I have heard that there may be other antidepressants that are better for one if one doesn't want to put on weight. Is this true?
I will let you know. I am on Lyrica and have been for about a year. I am 47 and also been on Topamax for my seizures as well. Too many other AEDs over the past 5 yrs to name . Did the Lyrica cause my "spot" on my MRI that wasn't there on my last mammogram in JUne of last year? Who knows? We will see what my biopsy reveals next Wed.
If your dr is putting u on anti-depressants for your migraines ask about if you would benifit from Wellbutrin I had weight loss from that one and if i remember right it will help with your headaches or i know for a fact Topamax works well on my cronic migraines anyway but I have to take other stuff for the mental side. those are a couple suggestions you can discuss with your doctor.
Topamax! It is an anticonvulsant used for epilepsy, migraine prevention, and off-label used for bipolar and weight loss. I have read good reviews for people using it for bi-polar. I am surprised no one mentioned it to you already. Good luck, although I am sure you have already been put on something. I have found that the key to taking medications is research A LOT before you put it in your mouth. http://www.iguard.
and I've been told that it takes two to three weeks to finally kick in, but I have yet to notice any difference in my appetite/cravings/etc., or the need for salt, which is another side effect. I have heard not so nice things about Lithium, so I was very hesitant to try it, but it was my last option, seeing as I have tried every other kind of medication there is for BP. But you know what? It actually seems to be helping me...
Too much to fast. My shrink even gave my husband some medication that helps with his cravings for alcohol. Topamax was the first and the other one is Campral. And my husband said it has really helped with his cravings and with him wanting to gambal! So please seek some good medical help and get started on each addiction. One day at a time. Also, my shrink believes cold turkey does not work even with alcohol. But that is just an opinion. Good luck to you because it is a daily battle.
I don't really care what I eat which is huge for me as I always wanted junk food as a reward for myself in the evenings. Now I just want food when I m hungry because I'm hungry. So it has changed the reason that I eat for basic necessity and not to binge. I may not update this everyday not unless something huge happens. Go to see the doctor on Day 8 for a check up and a prescription refill. Will update for sure then...
I have everything to live for! About 5 years ago, i started getting severe migranes and had an accident which injured my back and neck. I tried anti-imflammatory's and other med's for my pain to no avail. My dr. put me on 2 80mg of oxycontin per day, and 1 10/500 of lortab every 4-6hrs. as needed for breakthrough pain. In the five that have gone by, I've stayed on only taking 2 of the oxy's per day, but have escalated up to 10-15 lortabs per day!
He also mentioned the side affect of weight loss (which will be a blessing if this is in fact true since I could stand to lose some weight). He started me out on 25 mg for a week, 50 for the second week, 75 for the 3rd week and 100 4th week. Can anyone tell me how they felt on the Topomax as far as the weight loss went? Did they feel not hungry? Nauseaous? Stomach pain? How long before they started to lose weight?
Whatever caused it I have been depressed for a little while and it has been horrible.
is there anything besides topamax that won't cause me to gain weight or induce food cravings??? Abilify I swear makes me crave food and topamax made my hair fall out. I am feeling pretty hopeless! I refuse to gain weight but I know I need to be on medication. Any advice?
I couldn't stand this live I was living keeping it all a secret every time I would relasp ao I decided to stop again and this time hopefully this is it I found a physitactrist who sepeialises in Suboxone treatment for opined addicts and I've been off of them for three months now I feel absolutely wonderful I've gotten my life back I have no cravings at all or thoughts of them this treatment has been a miracle for me it's the only thing that has ever worked to keep me drug free .
I have just been on Topamax for migraine prevention for 3 weeks @ 75 mg increasing slowly to 175mg...while i have noticed decreased appetite and a few pounds lost I have struggled with my weight for yrs and yrs as I have pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) insulin resistance and fibromyalgia.
and am also on other drugs - cymbalta and topamax. I want to do this safely and want a dr. who will help safely monitor the use of the appetite suppressants. I have tried Weight Watchers and I exercise, but I just cannot seem to get this post baby weight off and need help! I am having trouble with sweet cravings and I think the antidepressants have messsed up my metabolism. I wish I could find a doctor who accepts insurance rather than a weight loss clinic. Thanks for any information!
The first time I was on Lamictal I took it in conjunction with Topamax. I believe it was the Topamax that was responsible for some weight loss, but it could have been Lamictal, too. I remember being specifically told that if I had winter carbohydrate craving they would probably go away from one or the other. Unfortunately, they were not effective for my bipolar. I have not taken an SSRI in years after bad experiences with Zoloft and Paxil so I can't advise you about the Prozac.
