It knocks out cravings for alcohol and narcotics. It worked good for me with the narcotics. If you would drink on it you would not get sick but you would not get the effects of the alcohol. The down fall to it is if you don't have ins it is $1,000 a month for the shot where I live anyways. The pills are a lot cheaper. I don't know if you would be interested in it but just wanted to pass on the info to you.

I have not heard of topamax for wd .ULTRAM is NOT a good option for wd it takes ya from the frying pan into the fire (for most ).

we have a excellent alcohol addiction forum you may find beneficial you should check it out.. although you do not drink during the day does not mean you do not have a problem.. I can say from experience my life has been enhanced by quitting drinking and waking up in the morning feeling good is awesome. I underage and i have been diagnosed from the doctors to have problems with my liver, I used to drink heavily about a year ago because of a serious depressive stage I have to go through. I have just signed up to this forum to search for help because i seriously have an addiction.

Up until about a week ago I was on Hydrocortizone, Levoxyl, Humatrope, Enpresse (a Birth Control), and Topamax. Now last week I saw a new neuro for some seizure medicine complications and he is going to wean me off the Topamax and slowly put me on Lamictal, which I have begun, I am only on 25mg right now. Today I had a very small amount of alcohol, a mixed rum beverage, which I mixed myself, and I felt absolutley awful.

Last night I started taking Wellbutrin SR for my depression. I am taking 150 mg in the morning and 150 mg at night. I have noticed today I am very jittery and shakey. I have had about a half cup of coffee (normally I am on cup 3 by this time of morning). I have smoked one ciggarette all day. Is the shaking a side effect of Wellbutrin or would the combination of caffine having something to do with it? What are some other side effects of Wellbutrin?

Hi I would also like to comment as well.... I am taking topamax and I take it for migrane prevention.. and not for seizures....Should we still be wearing a medical alert even tho we do not have seizures>?

I would try and find a addiction specialist in your area and talk to them about it. You can look online and try to find someone. I would also recommend just praying and asking God to remove the obsession of alcohol. Prayer is the best medicine in my opinion, and I am a recovering alcoholic!

It could be those that had a hair loss issue also had a thyroid issue and assumed it was the topamax......????

Is Ultram ever used for a person to quit using alcohol? Can it be addictive too like alcohol if misused? Can it interact with Cymbaltal, the anitdepressant?

Head aches Monday through Thursday? Can you get daily head aches from alcohol with drawl?

I took topamax for a month for chiari pain and feibro. It made me worse. I usually get most reactions to medicines though. I was depressed and angry all the time. After I stopped taking it I felt a lot better. I have chronic pain 24/7 and nothing works usually. I would rather not rely on pills. I have tried every pill and only ones that work at all and don't make me crazy are excedrin-works as well as anything else, vicodin and morphine.this is just my experience everyones body is different.

I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.

ve tried all three -- Neurontin, Topamax, and Cymabalta -- but after looking at the information for particularily the Cymbalta, I am wondering if I just have a med conflict. I have been taking Zoloft and Trazodone for over 14 years -- both are SSRIs and these 3 drugs all seem to affect serotonin absorption/dispersal. I am actually trying taking myself off the Lyrica right now, going down to just the Zoloft, Trazodone, and birth control.

There is one thing that I know as a cocaine addict is that nobody stopped me from using ,once an addict always an addict ,I am now a recoving addict! Nice!. I was in denial in all shapes and forms .There is a program which I think you might find interesting. It is nar anon or al anon. There are both support for people with people in their lives who have addiction and alcohol issues. It is great.

So I was clean from hydro for a month, felt good, went to a pain clinic and they prescribed Topamax and Norco. I took the Topamax once and hated the side effects so I didn't take it again. So I gave the Norco to my to take AS PRESCRIBED, no abusing. I was hesitant, but I did it. Now, after a week, I feel like total garbage. The hydro seems to make me feel sick and just not "right." Certainly no high I experienced while abusing.
