I have been taking topamax for migraine prevention for approximately 4 months. All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?

s why they start you out on a low dose and move you up over several weeks. I took it for migraine prevention and it changed my taste of everything. I hated it but it is good for migraine prevention and anti-seizures pain etc. I finally adjusted to it, I felt like you at first. I just hate all medication but sometimes you don't have an option.

I was on it before for migraine prevention. Doc had me stop it a month before coming off my birth control.

I'm on 100mg of topamax and I am still getting at least 15+ migraine days a month... last month was 21 migraine days. But my mother is on a much higher dose for nueropathy and it works very well for her neuropathy pain. And... yeah, the clinical results show very good results as far as topamax treating migraines goes. On the treatment guidelines set out by the American Neurology whatever, they have this chart, and topamax got two plus signs out of three... so, that's pretty good.

I have been having migraines for the last 5 to 6 years and i want to know what i can do about them i get them more and more. I have a migraine atleast 7 times a month. I have no idea what to do about them and i hope that someone can answer my question?

I'm day 5 into taking Topiramate 25mg at night for migraine prevention. My migraine is a daily pressure headache at the base of my skull. I have Chiari malformation type 1 but neurosurgeon says I don't need surgery, thankfully. He and my neurologist advised i try Topiramate as Amitriptyline didn't suit me (made me suicidal) and my asthma prevents them trying me on beta blockers.

I have a long history of migraine. I'm a 55 yo f. I also take a number of medications, including Topamax for migraine, blood pressure meds, Celebrex, asthma medication and diabetes medication. However I have had recurring visual disturbances that only happen at night. I get up in the middle of the night - to go to the bathroom - and the bathroom is covered in geometric patterns, like a checkered pattern or little lacework pattern. It's everywhere, the walls, tub, sink, floor.

I am currently taking anywhere from 300mg to 600mg of Magnesium citrate a day. The recommended dose for migraine prevention that has been proven in scientific trials is 400mg per day (in one trial) and 600mg per day (in another trial)... so, basically, I think that if 400mgs works, then that's all you should take. But, some people find that more is helpful, or sometimes people's doctors will prescribe more.

well I am on 200 mg of topamax for my migraines which I dont have as often as i use to. but this one pitucular day I started having this dull burning sinsation in the back of my head when it gets so bad it feels like the back of my head is on fire and it makes me dizzy when im up on my feet and i try not to get up to fast when im lying down or sitting.. I had a c-scan taken at the er and it came bk normal. this has been going on for over a month now I have been on the topamax for over a year.

I take the topamax for migraine prevention; also I saw I was getting low and tapered off somewhat so maybe that's why I didn't have those issues. Hi. I have been taking topamax for migraine prevention for approximately 4 months. I have pain in my shoulders, hips, knees, wrists and ankles. The pain came on very suddenly. I read that topamax can have joint pain as one of the side effects and have weaned myself off the med. I have not taken any for the past 4-5 days. However, I am still very stiff and achy and my ankles have been swollen for the past 2 days.

I have tried topamax and inderal and they are not helping my headaches. What is next?

The only thing that is currently on the migraine tracker prevention wise that I use is topamax, the anticonvulsant. The other medications are not currently listed. So, if you add the other things it would be very useful for me. But, everything on the original list I gave you are common first line preventative treatments for migraine prevention that lots of people who use the migraine tracker take... so adding all of them would be helpful.

I just started Topamax last night, so tonight is my second dose and last night i got a headache about an hour after taking it and i thought maybe it was just a weird thing, but tonight the same thing happened it's been over an hour now and my head is hurting pretty good, and it wasnt before hand. Has anyone started this med and got headache in return, instead of helping?

Okay, so has anyone that has been Rx'd Topamax for headaches, actually gotten crushing headaches about 1-2 hours after taking it? I am trying hard to wait it out and work through my dosage increases but this is just insane! Thanks!

t personally use it, but lots of people do use it for migraine prevention and find relief with it. Although it can be dangerous taking herbal treatments without consulting a doctor first, so please consult a doctor prior to taking Feverfew or any other herbal treatments, just as you would with prescriptions. As for what you have already tried: The Tylenol 3s and the Morphine aren't things I usually recommend to people, so I am not surprised that they didn't work.

Welbutrin has worked for me for years, but about 8 days after starting Topamax for migraine control, the depression is kicking my butt. Could the Topamax be responsible? I would rather have migraines than be depressed!

I started taking Topamax my junior year of high school, then I found out I had 4 kidney stones. The doctors think that it might have been because of the topamax, but I wasn't drinking enough water with it, so I think that could have been the problem. I just started on topamax for 2 days on 25mg for headaches i had headaches for a long time. Im worried about this drug and mixing it with other drugs that i take. Im HIV positive and i take stribld everyday before bed my nero doc wants me to take topamax before bed as well. First off I think that increasing the Topamax to 100mg if possible would be a good place to start since you have said that the Topamax has greatly reduced the number of severe headaches you get. The normal dose of Topamax for migraine prevention is 100mg, so taking it at the regular dose might greatly improve your situation.
