Hi, I have got depression and also get migraines. Do you take medication for your depression? I used to take Migraleve, but one time I was in a psychiatric hospital, and forget what medication I was on then. I asked staff if it was OK to take the Migraleve with the anti-depressant and was told yes. Unfortunately they reacted with each other, and I had a fit. Since then I am too scared to take anything until Migraine aura starts, and then take a painkiller, but not a strong one.

Hi.....I have both migraines and depression. My neuro doc put me on Topamax (I take it daily) for migraine management and when I do get "breakthrough" migraines I take Maxalt. The Topamax has worked wonders!!! But it isn't without some nasty side effects. Initially it causes your feet, hands and face to tingle (that goes away)....but it plays hell with your memory (not everyone gets this, but I did). It takes away your appetite (at least it did for me).

i was diagnosed with migraines and they prescribed topamax for preventative medication and i was wondering approx how long this would take to see an affect? i seem to have mostly visual problems and some pain with my migraines.. my perception definately feels off and my eye gets really low on the right side of my head.. i was wondering .. does it make a difference in a dignoses with it being on one side of my head mostly?? and i seem to be so depressed ever since these symptoms started...

The topamax is for depression and to lose weight.

I was building the topamax up and lowering the lamictal down. Now I am just on the topamax. The side affects seem quite scary to me, severe dizziness and very off balance, I am always tired and have tingling in the hands and feet. I seem loss for words and confused. Will these side affects deteriorate over the a certain amount of time? It is difficult when I have to go to work and live everyday life. Please help.

Has anyone with or without Depression experienced depression symptoms or thoughts of suicide as a side effect of their antiepileptic medication? This happened to me on Topamax. I was weaned off the drug quickly. my doctor is looking for something else. In the meantime I am having daily seizures.

Topamax is used for a lot of things it isn't necessarily labeled for. It's also used for treatment of nerve-related pain. Docs love to give it to patients with spine pain because it's not a narcotic. I know topamax has helped people with pain, but I wasn't one of them. I got every side effect on the fine-print enclosure, including a wooden tongue and numb, nearly paralyzed extremeties. Hadn't even titrated up to a "therapeutic" dose yet.

Welbutrin has worked for me for years, but about 8 days after starting Topamax for migraine control, the depression is kicking my butt. Could the Topamax be responsible? I would rather have migraines than be depressed!

s going to take me off. Its not helping my depression (though its only been a week). Topamax has been shown in studies to be helpful for bulimia. Its only been a week for me, and I have had a reduction in appetite. I don't know if any of you are bulimic, but if you are, you know that it doesn't matter if you're hungry or not, you just eat. So the topamax is helping somewhat. I'm taking 50mg at night and 25mg in the am. I'm so tired.

I suffer from sevre migrianes and have been diagnosed with depression. I use to weight 150 pounds now I'm at 172 pounds and can not afford to gain any more weight. My doctor has prescribed Topamax 50 mg in the AM and 100 mg in the PM plus Wellbutrin XL 150 mg one a day I take this mid morning. I am afraid of gaining more weight. Has anyone out there taken this combo of meds?

I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss? I currently take Maxalt for headaches only as needed so the Topamax was only used as an anti-seizure med. Please let me know so that I can discuss this with my neurologist about adding Topamax back into my daily routine. Thank you, any help you could give would be wonderful.

Hi, From my previous posts...I was injured in a rocket explosion in Baghdad 4 months ago. I was knocked out for a few seconds and suffered a head concussion. Since coming back home, I started to have migraine like headaches along with other post mTBI symptoms (dizziness, cognative problems, etc). Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax).

I have numerous medical conditions including bipolar disorder,depression,social anxiety,osteoarthritis,degenerative disc disease,spondylosis,and spondylothesis.I take Depakote and Xanax for the mental illnesses.I also had gastric bypass surgery 9 years ago.My pre surgery weight was 379 and within 1 1/2 years I got down to 180.After being diagnosed bipolar 3 years ago and starting the Depakote,I gained back 70 lbs which has put a major strain on my back condition.

I am on Topamax for my migrains and for weightloss, well I am taking Geodon as well for depression, my question is.... If I am taking geodon will the Geodon which can cause mild weight gain counter act the weight loss with the topamax??

Before topamax my period was every 28 days. I took it topamax for 3 months and never had my period... I told my doc., he just laughed and said maybe I was starting menopause . I stopped taking topamax one month ago, my period came back 2 days ago! The weight loss was great , but it wasn't worth the hair loss or the change in my cycle.

So Wellbutrin used to make me sweat like a ***** in church; after I was prescribed Topamax, it stopped. Topamax inhibits sweating but I was on a 200 mg dose for migraines-I started at 25 mg but the more my dose increased the less I noticed the horrible sweats from the Wellbutrin. It is a stimulant so it will have that effect.

Hi there Dr perscribed me Topamax for my migraines and I am a little nervous to try them. I heard you can also lose weight with this. I quit smoking 4 weeks ago and have put on quite a bit of weight, so was wondering if you can share your experiences and side effects to see if it is worth it.

I would like to know if anyone is or has used Topamax along with a SSRI. Did it help you lose the weigh gained from the SSRI or did it just stop you from gaining more? Or not work at all? My story. I suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder. I was on on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for 2 years, it worked well for the most part, did not gain any weight but it was ineffective for my anxiety and was not working as much for depression near the end. I started Paxil CR 12.

I'm currently on 300 bupropion/100 topamax for migraines. I don't like the bupropion as much as Zoloft but had to stop it bc I ate so much on the Zoloft. Is there anything someone could recommend to make me loose weight along with taking Zoloft?

Hello, I'm on my 4th day of 25mg of Topamax for fibromyalgia and interstitial cystitis pain. In 3 more days I'll go up 25 mg more.

After two months of various symptoms that started with a traumatic event with my PREVIOUS doctor I was diagnosed by a Army neurologist with Fibro. and will have a appt. with a Rhumtd. doctor hopefully in a week for confirmation. Before I got in I just started Topamax for pain I've been having primarily face pain, headaches, aching in upper jaw ( maxillary) but, this was given to me by a PA on a low dose, the neuro. is starting me on nortryptilyn.

Hello, I am seeing both a Psychologist and a Psychaitrist for a combination of various anxiety and depression symptoms. These include IBS, OCD, decrease sexual desire, claustrophobia etc. The major reason I seeked treatment was that I lost my job about a month ago due to an outburst and bad judgment. The doctors feel that it could be reflective of bi-polar. But I felt that the anxiety and depression symptoms should be treated first. To cut through the chase, he gave 25MG of Topamax.

as far as mild depression, which I consider my case to be, could the Topamax not be used alone? Could I have my doc wean me from the Zoloft to see how I tolerate it? Or should I try the weaning over to Wellbutrin to see if it is any better? I hate the sexual side effects, and I really need more energy. The Topamax fog is bad enough at times, I really don't like adding the Zoloft fog to it. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, I am taking Topamax for my bulimia. I have suffered with this for So so long. I was on topamax once before and it did help quite a bit, for quite awhile. For an unrelated reason, I had to stop it. I just began it again, and I have to say, I am having a hard time staring it. The side effects are much more exagerated then what I remember. Severe anxiety, depression and extreme senistivity to touch. I was to start with 50 mg a day...and increase from there. I just can't.
