Topamax and zonegran

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax and zonegran

topamax

Avatar f tn Hello!!! I was wondering what anyones experience was on Zonegran. I have tried Topamax previously but couldn't withstand anything over 1/4 of a 25 mg pill....thats right 6.25. Went to new NL and he rx Zonegran @ 25mg. I feel like a walking Zombie and have had a worsening (didn't know that was possible) migraine for the last 3 days which is how long I have been on this medication.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.
Avatar f tn I looked it up, the stuff they refer to as topamax light is called zonegran. They said it was similar to topamax, but with less of the side effects as with topamax. No one has done the tilt table test on me....my drs really haven't done much with me. I have a blood pressure/heart rate monitor and I did it myself though. Laying down, sitting up, then standing, right? My blood pressure, which is on the low end of normal, (average 100/60) varied normally i think, as did my heart rate.
Avatar f tn I appreciate it. I have been on depakote, topamax, lamotrigine, zonegran, gabepentin, lamictal, and keppra. Most of them make me so dopey and forgetful that working is definately a challenge. But...no work...no insurance...no medical care. What a nasty circle. I am allergic to the zonegran, blisters in my mouth etc. The others caused severe leg pain, eye pain, anorexia, hairloss, and I suppose i could go on. But you get the picture.
Avatar f tn I am 31 year old healthy female. I work part time and have 2 small children. On Sept. 17 of 2012 around mid-morning when I began to have vision problems that included spots in my eyes and almost like a shadow fell over my left eye. I thought perhaps I was going to get a migraine since I had heard people describe them that way. The vision probs lasted about 45 minutes and when it went away a headache set in. It was what I would call a mild to moderate headache. Ever since I have a headache.

492869 tn?1285018933 I guess I'll start since no one else has. I'm not going to list every med I take; however, I will try to list meds that are peripherally related to dysauto symptoms or commonly comorbid conditions, as these may be relevant to others. Yes, I know, I'm on a lot of meds. Fludrocortisone- Orthostatic Intolerance Midodrine- Orthostatic Intolerance (Taken every 6 hours, including overnight.
9584843 tn?1404686658 I have self medicated over 10 years to get some type of relief. Especially since I was still in high school and I couldn't seem to concentrated when I had my attacks. I would take Advil, Excedrin, ibuprofen, anything to help with the pain. Eventually I had to keep upping the dose until I was taking 10 to 15 pills a day to even get a slight reaction from the meds. This year I was finally dxed with this condition. I finally got to see a true Chiari spoecialiat yesterday.
1636315 tn?1301198225 I was wondering what medications people have experienced any relief from. I know everyone's body is different and what works for some might not work for others. Before I was diagnosed with Chiari, I was treated for Fibro. Doctors had me try Lyrica, Savella (started at a low dose and worked up to a high dose), Gabapentin and Roboxin. I've also tried Tramadol and Topamax in the past and with any of these medications I have found barely any or no relief at all.
Avatar f tn Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal. I am also on Cymbalta and Ambien. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Of the mood stabilizers, Lamictal is weight neutral. Topamax and Zonegran (both anticonvulsants used off-label for mood stabilization) are associated with weight loss. Of the atypical antipsychotics, Abilify and Geodon have the lowest risk of weight gain.
Avatar f tn I gained about twenty pounds on Trileptal, (a very similar drug), in just a month, and now I am also switching to Zonegran. I'm still in the process of raising my dose, but thrilled that it's working well for your daughter!
1221035 tn?1301000508 I am allergic to cipro, topamax, zonegran, lamictal, keppra, tysabri and gilenya................ I asked my Neuro if it makes sense that MS patients would have a higher rate of allergic reactions due to our over active immune systems.....His response was that in theory that was completely correct, it only stands to reason if our body attack our own myelin, it would really attack an outside substance, like a foreign medication. I wonder how many MS patients have allergic reactions to medicines?
Avatar n tn she put him on medication ZONEGRAN THEN TOPAMAX THEN DEPAKOTE none of them helped. PLEASE tell me whatever you know about this. what should i do? I'm going crazy. THANK YOU!!
959034 tn?1253671476 I am 22 years old and I was diagnosed with epilepsy since I was about 5 years old. They told my mom I had 6 days to live when I was born because I had a tumor on my brain. I had brain surgery when I was a baby. Since then I've had 5 brain surgeries my last one was when I was 11 years old. I had a seizure on the operating table and was paralyzed on my right side. So whenever I have a seizure I go paralyzed on my right side and it takes me about 3 minutes to talk again.
1303966 tn?1296740010 She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
Avatar f tn I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.
1303966 tn?1296740010 hi, I suffer from an odd variant migraine that exhibits the symptoms and signs of a cluster headache ( a migraine cluster variant), and sometimes I have weird feelings, heavy legs, or hands that don't seem to work as well as they should. I take Topamax and Gabapenten for seizures as well. as for the migraines, considering that they are vascular and located in the head/brain it is little wonder odd feelings abound in other parts of the body sometimes.
Avatar f tn I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.
5857909 tn?1375628784 I have reduced quite all my medication and I feel like slowly back to being the person i used to be I am currently taking only 50mg of Topamax and I can say that the pain disappeared almost completely and the goal is to be free of this medicine at year end. Also I have feelings of anger, because I think I've been taking Topamax for over 10 years without any sense. I think I have found what was the source of all my chronic pain and Topamax was not helping me at all.
975514 tn?1324997938 I've been taking Topamax for about 2.5 months and since then noticed some issues with my left eye. Within a month of being on Topamax my left eye seemed very dry, so I thought I was suffering from allergies (which I do have). I purchased some over the counter allergy eye drops, which caused my left eye to dilate, which scared me. Being cautious, I went to see a optician for a basic check up because I know about the possible Glaucoma complication with Topamax as well.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever responded to the original questions posted in 2010? I am curious. I have been taking 300 mg Wellbutrin and 200 mg Topamax since May 2016 and have lost approx 30lbs. I wasn't aware of the side affects and my doctor said as long as I feel fine there is no reason to run tests. I just want to make sure others are having this same significant weight loss.
Avatar f tn Oh and vistaril too.
Avatar n tn All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?
802234 tn?1237830136 ) My doc and I have to get Zonegran out of my regimen (cognitive confusion, dangerously and abnormally thin) any thoughts on the puffiness?
Avatar f tn I just logged on here at 3 am to see if anyone else had these symptoms with this drug. my legs and arms are numb and like needles and pins, I have diahrrea and nausa every day and food dosen't tast good at all. I itch all over which is keeping me awake. I am going to stop taking it. can't call the doc till monday, but can't stand this either. good luck to you.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone! I was just released from the hospital and I have Pseudo Tumor Cerebri and ICP. I am 33 year old female and never had a headache problem so this constant pain *****:( I know that Topamax won't treat a headache but helps to prevent... But I wanted to hear if anyone had any positive experiences with Topamax? Today is only my second day and I've only noticed mild dizziness. Any major side effect experiences? Thanks a bunch!!
