Avatar f tn I have bipolar with major depression for more than 20yrs. I have missed and ruined the best years of my life and my kids life the things I wanted I never did them well maybe in my next lifetime. So u no I am over 50 and hope not to live that long, but I just in not even a year put on over 40 pounds which I was that weight when I was 13yrs and talk about bullying in 1960 was depressing.
Avatar f tn Hello,`I am new at this soo.. i was diagnosed a yr ago and was put on effexor that didn't help, and serequel for racing thoughts. then my doc put me on wellbutrin xr that was ok for a couple of months but my depression has worsed tremendously and i am taking wellbutrin xr 200 mg, serequel 50mg, and clonapin. the wellbutrin has no effect on me at all and i was actually wondering about topamax. i have tried almost every antidepressent and nothing.
Avatar n tn Hello Everyone, I'm very new community. My new dr. just recently told me that me that I'm bipolar. I had been on lamictal for about two years for depression and anxiety, but weaned myself off of it, as I was convinced that it was making me gain weight. When I weaned myself off, I fell into a deep depression and had to find myself a new dr. I started Topamax and Wellbutrin, but the Wellbutrin is making my thoughts and heart race. So I have to go off.
Avatar f tn I had periorbital migraines and was placed on Topamax, technically an anti-seizure but also great for migraine/headache control and mood stabilization in bipolar disorder. That for a while was the only thing that worked for me. It can have a sedative and appetite suppressant effect. I was also shortly on a low dose of Elavil for migraines. Carefull with that one, take only the amount prescribed.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever responded to the original questions posted in 2010? I am curious. I have been taking 300 mg Wellbutrin and 200 mg Topamax since May 2016 and have lost approx 30lbs. I wasn't aware of the side affects and my doctor said as long as I feel fine there is no reason to run tests. I just want to make sure others are having this same significant weight loss.
Avatar m tn m a 16 year old boy and i was prescribed topamax 25mg for migraines over a year ago. A few months ago i was also prescribed wellbutrin 300mg and prozac 10mg for depression and anxiety. When I first started taking the topamax i hardly sweated. I did start sweating a fair amount before taking the wellbutrin and prozac but the sweating has just increased since then and i've been getting large stains on my armpits just from sitting in class.
569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
1512520 tn?1290258130 I was on on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for 2 years, it worked well for the most part, did not gain any weight but it was ineffective for my anxiety and was not working as much for depression near the end. I started Paxil CR 12.5 mg for 6 months (second time I m trying Paxil), I felt great but 25 lbs crept on and it has made me severely depressed. I am now off Paxil for 1.5 months and my anxiety is coming back, and havent lost any of the weight either.
1655289 tn?1326042889 I'm curious if anyone is taking Topamax for bipolar? I've read it helps with weight loss too. I'm currently taking Zyprexa causing me to gain 45lbs, I want to ask my doctor if I can switch from Zyprexa to Topamax for my bipolar II. I'd love any feedback on either drug and how it affected you.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with BP II with more noticeable depression as well. I'm actually on a combo of Wellbutrin/Abilfy and it's the PERFECT combo for me. I was on lamictal and it made me crazy and had awful side effects. I've never taken Prozac or Lithium, as I've found a combo that works for me. I take 250mg Wellbutrin twice a day and 15mg of Abilify. I also take an anti-anxiety med and sleeping pills as needed.
Avatar f tn i was on topamax for 5 yr for my bipolar...worked great as u i wasnt drinkin enough water n went numb in my hands.. i was on 50mgs 2x a day. it took about 2wks til dr got me on the rite mgs a day.but once i had the right amount felt normal.i wasnt cryin for no reason any more.as for other side affects didnt have any...i was takin a slepin pill aswell,n wellbutrin.
Avatar f tn I'm 29 and bipolar, I was diagnosed at 19. I'm currently on a # of meds, lamictal, topamax, celexa, wellbutrin and Ativan. Lately I feel like I've been causing fights over the smallest things with my bf and then I get extremely emotional and cry. For instance I was hurt that he made plans with his family on Tuesday night bc I assumed he would want to hang out with me after work and not seeing each other for 4 days.
470964 tn?1240246255 About nine months and 2 miscarriages later, I decided that I really needed to be back on anti-depressants, so he put me back on Zoloft 100 mg/day as well as Topamax 50 mg/day for migraines. The Topamax has been working wonders for my migraines, and the Zoloft seemed to be working at first, but lately something doesn't seem right. I am not emotional, like crying, but I'm more angry, which was an issue before the Topamax, but I was able to control it better.
Avatar f tn My doctor has prescribed Topamax 50 mg in the AM and 100 mg in the PM plus Wellbutrin XL 150 mg one a day I take this mid morning. I am afraid of gaining more weight. Has anyone out there taken this combo of meds?
Avatar m tn Topomax is generally used as a secondary mood stabilizer and is often of partial help and can cause mental changes. Lexapro and Wellbutrin are standard anti-depressents but anti-depressents alone wont treat bipolar and what is needed is a full mood stabilizer. Lamictal is generally helpful in this regard. However each person responds differently to each medication. The most important thing is to discuss with your psychiatrist why they are changing your diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I am bipolar, have chronic migraines, and doing IVF. I use lithium and lamictal for my mood stabilizers and will stay on them through my pregnancy. The tentative plan is to add topamax after baby for the migraines and an added mood stabilizer boost. I am loving the possible side effect of weight loss as I am overweight, but I would be devastated if I lose my hair. I may have a migraine everday but they're not so bad I would hand over my hair for relief.
Avatar n tn I use other meds when I get sick but the only psyc meds I take are lithium and wellbutrin. topamax for migraines and low dose of hormones because i do not have an ovary. Crystlas- Migraines SUCK! I go through seasons when I get them so bad and so rapidly I have to pull the car over if I am driving and I am lying by the side of the road throwing up. I carry Imitrex shots and phentigren gel you rub in your arm for nausea. I never leave home without them.
Avatar f tn I have been struggling with Bulima for 3 and a half years now and Im getting help. I want to try a drug to help me with the withdrawel affects of the crutch of eating for emotional needs. My Psychiatrist said Celexa, Prozac or Zoloft are my options. Celexa being the main one. I am concerned that I will gain weight though from their affects. I am also concerned it will increase my appetite. Will it help me with my mental addiction for the need to eat all the time?
Avatar f tn Hi...I have been on Topamax for 2 1/2 years and it doesnt seem to be working anymore. I went to a neurologist and he raised my dose from 100 mg to 125 mg about 3 wks ago. The headaches are still there...everyday, some stronger than others, but EVERYDAY. I also take 450mg wellbutrin. I dont know if I should call the Dr and ask him if I should start taking 150mg or does anyone think its too early to say (3 wks) I take relpax when they get real bad and that works great, but 4 hrs later...
Avatar f tn m really hoping I can see the pdoc again before next year, so that might be able to worked out, as I really want to get off this antidepressant as it is certainly not doing anything to help. Also both my psychologist and psychiatrist are going to continue assessing me for bipolar, as it seems quite likely at this stage.
337492 tn?1212458836 The doctors now switched me to a wellbutrin/lithium combo for my bipolar disorder and I am so parinoid about developing migraines from the wellbutrin. I have already been on the Lithium for a year and it is helping me. I found, per web searching, that some people get migraines from wellbutrin. Is that true? I am so hopeful because I used wellbutrin in my past and it was wonderful for me.
Avatar m tn Do your own research, but apparently you can take both together. I have taken Wellbutrin and my husband does for bipolar (him) and we did not gain wt. on it. It just did not work for me, so I switched to Lexapro. It helped me in less than a week. I have been on it for several years and actually lost wt. while on it. I was actively trying to lose wt. and had no problems doing it while taking the Lexapro.
