Topamax and vicodin interaction

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax and vicodin interaction

topamax

Avatar n tn i am just starting to take a low dose of topamax at 50mg a day and not going to increase to more than 100mg a day and i am wondering if this will interfere with my lutera pills?? i have read that it lowers the effectiveness but i have also read that it doesnt happen until you reach doses of 200mg or more. i have also heard that by increasing your birth control dose you can help the effectiveness and my doctor specifically prescribed lutera because it has a higher dosage than most BC.
Avatar m tn I've been taking Topamax 50mg-100mg daily and I have been also taking Yasmin. The two were told to me to be ineffective when used together, so I've been using a back up method of condoms. I'm unhappy with this so my OBGYN switched me to Zovia, which I do not like. My question is, could YAz and Topamax at 50-100mg, be taken together?
Avatar f tn Although Topamax is primary metabolized via the cyp450-3A4 and Welbutrin is is primary metabolized via the cyp450-2B6, there is some secondary drug/drug interaction between them. It is not a major interaction but can cut the effectiveness of one or both of the medications. Typically, when we have someone on anti-depressants that also suffers from migraines, we co-prescribe Gabitril (available as generic Tiagabine ) which is not to be confused with Gabapentin.
1810386 tn?1405549577 Amitriptyline and Tramadol is horible interaction leading to Serotonine Syndrome. Had it once, before surgery. any SSRI is evil with Tramal. brrrrrrr.
Avatar f tn t know how anyone could reliably determine if she is having a reaction to the mix of those or not, but my question is who determined that she needed the Topamax, Amtriptyline and now Maca Root and hot flash herbal vitamins? Also, it wasn't clear. Is she taking all those other supplements? If so, why would you think she needs all those? Personally I'd be very leery of taking what you ordered. Last for now, why did you post on a Thyroid Forum?
1759292 tn?1313064590 I've took Vicodin and Topamax. Vicodin made me not care about myself or my family. Topamax didn't seem to help at all.
Avatar f tn I take the synthyroid (complete thyroidectomy Dec 2008) and coumadin (DVT) at the same time and then 1 1/2 hrs later, I take topamax (migraine) and protonix (GERD). Is this enough time between each?
Avatar f tn I am on TOPAMAX and do not have an issue with hair loss....not everyone will have a side effect from the meds...and sometimes there can be an interaction if u r on another med...check with ur dr or pharmacist to be sure and always report all side effects asap .
Avatar m tn I'm on zoloft and I sometimes take my moms vicodin/percocet for pain and I'm just wondering is it safe to take these combinations together? Basically: Zoloft+Vicodin= safe? Zoloft+Percocet= safe? Will the Vicodin or Percocet decrease the effects of the Zoloft? OR can it cause permanent brain damage? I took 2 Vicodin's a couple days ago and then took 1 Zoloft pill an hour later and I started to feel weird/loopy. Could I have caused permanent brain damage?
Avatar f tn My current md said there is interaction between amitriptylline and topamax and also compazine which i take as needed. I do lortab for the pain, but i am afraid to take the topamax rx'd for "migraines" i don't think they are migraines. I was thinking i should call tci tomorrow and see if i could run this all by dr shelat or dr insigna.
Avatar m tn Right now the headaches are really bad that im still taking excedrine a lot and i was thinking topamax will do something at least a lil bit on the first week so i can stop taking excedrine but omg this is bad.
Avatar n tn When I read the info that went with it and looked up info on line it said something about interacting with asthma meds and meds for the urinary tract. I have asthma and take flovent and xopenex I also have interstitial cystitis so therefore I take Elmiron. I have no idea if the doctor read my list of meds or not. But I do not want to take this if there is going to be an interaction. I also take thyroid meds-- armour and have endometriosis so I will take Advil and Tylenol for the pain from endo.
1225279 tn?1295545587 progressively stop medications, especially lamictal and topamax, verapamil and vicodin.
2104296 tn?1334841551 I have to agree, sounds like your old doctors was screwing you up, topamax is a last resort drug for chronic migraines, not someone who gets them occasionally. if you only get them occasionally then you dont need to mess around with preventive medications if you dont have to. Especially topamax. I have chronic migraines and i've had to go on the topamax, but i HATE it. the side effects suck. but nothing else works.
Avatar m tn Hey guys. I've got a problem slightly different from the ones I've been sorting through looking for an answer, so I decided to post here. I have chronic migraines, and my doctors think it's related to stress and anxiety. They put me on Vicodin for the pain while waiting for a drug called "Topamax" to kick in, which takes a few months, and when it did it only dulled them and lowered the frequency.
Avatar f tn Up until about a week ago I was on Hydrocortizone, Levoxyl, Humatrope, Enpresse (a Birth Control), and Topamax. Now last week I saw a new neuro for some seizure medicine complications and he is going to wean me off the Topamax and slowly put me on Lamictal, which I have begun, I am only on 25mg right now. Today I had a very small amount of alcohol, a mixed rum beverage, which I mixed myself, and I felt absolutley awful.
Avatar f tn Hi, I would suggest you to discuss with your doctor if Topamax will be suitable for you. Topamax has proved to be very effective for migraine prophylaxis. Recent studies have shown that Topamax is very effective for reducing the frequency and severity of migraines. http://www.*************.com/migraine/medications/topamax.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/topamax-migraine.html Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Went to dermotology and told nope scalp is fine. Then what is with the itching? Also anyone else taking Diamox and topamax? How is that combo working for you ?
Avatar n tn I am on Duragesic pain patch, Ultram, Lortab 10 mg, and Lyrica 200mg. I noticed weight gain and swelling in my legs and feet with Lyrica and wanted to know if Topamax could replace Lyrica.
Avatar n tn My 35 yr. old son has had almost constant headaches for over a year and a half. He has been to several "specialists" and the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago and Mayo Clinic in Mn. He is being treated with drugs, since MRI shows no tumors, etc. The drugs are not working. Vicodin does temporarily lessen the pain as does demoral. He cannot get anymore vicodin. He has never had an allergy test, the doctor at Mayo didn't think it was necessary. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I had decompression surgery in 2009 but it didn't relieve the headaches all that much. I am now pregnant and the meds I was on before pregnancy (Topamax & Vicodin), of course I can't take now and Tylenol is not helping much at all. Just wondering if anyone else has been pregnant with chiari and how you got through the headaches. Also, were there any special precautions you had to take with the pregnancy?
Avatar f tn Hi, The affordable alternatives to Lyrica are -Neurontin ,Topamax and Cymbalta. Since you have had no relief from Topamax, you can try the other two . if still you feel no better ,please consult your neurologist to suggest an alternative.Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn Since you are on a considerably high dose of tramadol yes, the interaction is significant and can indeed cause serotonin syndrome, Also since Cymbalta is a potent SNRI. Was the tramadol prescribed with by a doctor knowing you were using tramadol as such high dose and vice versa? Reading that is serotonin syndrome on the internet won't improve your situation. I repeat serotonin syndrome is a medical condition that rarely cause trouble. If you experience fever then its time to go to the ER.
1687929 tn?1319426011 Hi, may I ask what dosage of Topamax were u on...I tried to up my dosage and got worse, now that I am at the lowest dosage I am ok....just wondering if it was the dosage? 2932946 tn?1344722012 Hi...well I can say that TOPAMAX helps greatly in changing the type of HA u get and once in a blue moon when needed Ibuprofen does help.....I know u do not want meds, I didn't either but I have not had my TOPAMAX since b4 Christmas and I am going nutz as I had HA's all under control.... U may want to see what may be causing ur HA's...for me I know it is my EDS and instability and TCS.....once u know it may be easier to know how to deal with it...

232328 tn?1207090071 I was prescribed anti-depressants along with vicodin, but the vicodin became my anti-depressant and I started abusing it, which led to more problems. Just a word of caution.
Avatar f tn I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.
Avatar f tn So I went and visited a general practitioner that specializes in weight loss. He prescribed Vyvanse to take in the morning then before bed I am supposed to take Topamax (migraine medicine) and Trintellix (an antidepressant) as well as a diet. I started on the Vyvanse mostly b/c I also suffer from ADHD and it is really great so far for my attention at work.
