Topamax and metformin

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax and metformin

topamax

I am on byetta and actoplus met which is metformin plus other stuff. just recently my doctor is trying me on topamax for the side affect of losing weight. He said in male diabetics it has been shown to help lose weight. I have been doing a lot of reading on this drug and was trying to see if anyone else out there has diabetes that has tried this drug and how it has helped them. I also tried posting in the doctor area but it was at's it's daily limit this early, which I thought was funny.
Has anyone had hair loss while on Metformin? Is there a connection between Metformin and hair loss? If it isn't lowering my blood sugar and is causing me to lose my hair--then I am considering discontinuing the Metformin. Help--I need all the information that I can get.
I have been taking metformin for a week and have lost 19 pounds i am taking it for pcos and it has worked wonders i also have a normal cycle now i dont know if you have one or not but if you dont hopefully it will help
There is one called Follicle Booster which is expensive, but helps a lot. And drink tons of water. Topamax is dehydrating and water will help the tingling sensations you get, along with the brain fog that comes with it. A couple of gallons of water a day will help. That's a lot, but you'll notice the difference. Plus you need to replenish your electrolytes with an occasional sports drink. Again, speaking from experience here. Good luck!
So,does ANYONE knows can Yaz really effect so much on Topamax? Thank you all In advance for listening and helping, and I do wish you all the best...
Has anyone used metformin for weight loss while taking any of the atypicals? topamax was what I was prescribed with zombie like results.
I've tried Inderal and Topamax and both of them made me extremely sleepy and depressed. Thanks for your help!! I greatly appreciate it!!!
currently my doc put me on Prozac, metformin, Topamax, can I take garcinia cambogia ?
with respirdal, topamax, wellbutrin, metformin, simvistatin, lamactil, I have gained 70 lbs, and admittedly exercise less because of disability. Is there any alternative in these meds to suggest to my pharmapratitioner?
all my blood sugar tests have come up normal), my psychiatric issues (I have Aspberger's Syndrome), my weight and all the meds I take (Abilify, Topamax, Lexapro, Metformin and Simvastatin). What really surprised me is that he had his mind made up before he even examined me! The examination consisted of mostly reflex tests of the arms and legs, and two or three short neurological examinations that one of my previous PCPs had performed on me. He never palpated my head or neck.
i also have ADD, and the fibro fog didnt get any better because topamax at high doses lol,,,i call DOPAMAX hehe but if you are having problems with weight gain, the DR can give as little as 25 to 50. i was 600!! (but remember , i have seizures, and daily migraines, and social anxiety) i am very outgoing , so it isnt that, but i constantly am looking for my keys in my purse, locking and unlocking the doors, checking the bathtub to make sure no one left it on...etc. stuff like that.
Finally, I got in to see my PCP and he immediately took me off the topamax (a drug commonly used for treatment of sezuires and migrains, and I had it for migraines).... Since going off the topamax, I had no more of those heart racing issues and felt much better however.... I now get chest pains on the upper left side of my chest and frequent chest pressure in the center of my chest and sometimes, this just overwhelming "unwell" feeling that will last an entire day....

I have to go to my doctor soon, and i'm going to talk to him about this. But i'm on topamax for migraines and I think you can't take birth control with topamax.(which was never a problem for me.) but, now that I may need it? i don't know???
I was scared all this was happening because of the topamax and the recent risks/side effect of glaucoma. I am twenty three. I having been taking anti-depressants since i was sixteen. i have no life without them. Not a happy one anyway. I've tried. I have never been told by any of the three psychiatrists i have seen in my treatment of this serotonin syndrome. I scheduled an eye examine i was so scared about the pain in my eyes. I still feel so sick. I just got my medicine today.
I am on Topamax 75mg a day and this week will be moving up to 100mg per day. From the other tests they did today, he believes I have a case of vertigo and my GP will handle that but I feel as if he has put my headaches down to anxiety and left it at that.
I chose not to take it and went on diabetes meds (Metformin) and lost 25 lb instead. My understanding of Lyrica is that it slows nerve impulses down (also used as an anti-sezure med) and must be weaned off of to prevent seizures. I had this option since my neuropathy manifests as numbness rather than pain.
The dizziness resembled being carsick, with lightheadedness and occasional moments of nausea and feeling faint (but I never passed out). I had a CAT scan and blood work twice, and so far no diagnosis for the dizziness/fatigue. It got better for a few weeks but last week I began to have dizzy spells again, this time accompanied by maxillary sinus pressure. I had just switched allergy medications, from Nasonex to generic Flonase, right at the time my symptoms returned.
i do not have seizures and need to be able to think.tried 2 pills and said no way! . another said topamax.. another seizure drug that may help with pain with lots of side effects (Dopamax!) i said i wil not try.. then she said try the antidepressant Elavil. well that has lots of side effects too..will not take... but they would not give me pain meds! i am crying for almost 3 months.. now i am on all supplements from the Naturopath.
I have been reading up on topamax, Metformin, and Lamictal and would like to know of how others have managed to lose weight and if any of these medications are worth considering. All of your replies would really help me.

WOW! 22 pounds is a lot of weight to loose in such a short period of time! Good for you!!! I hope that I am able to loose 22 pounds in the next couple of months. Are you following a diet plan and working out? I have not started working out yet....maybe one day...I don't have a diet plan either I am just trying to make good choices and watch my portions. This way I know that when I stop the shots and medicine I won't gain it all back. Lets hope!!! Best of Luck to you...

That is the best I can do. However, yesterday, my endocronologist told me to stop the humatrope, topamax, and promethazine to see if that helped with my fatigue and some of the pain. apparently humatrope can cause joint pain. we shall see.
My normal bowel movements may only be a couple times a week. And I'm on metformin and lo estrin 1.5/3.0 for my PCOS I had almost constant bleading until we found the right birth control to help with the PCOS about 3 years ago ( the blood work confirmed it was for sure PCOS) Fibrocystic breast tissue mammograms yearly Abnormal pap last year. Mild dysplasya. Copo was ok. Follow up pap neg.
I cannot take magnesium because I have had kidney stones, the topamax, and they said my magnesium levels were too high. topamax really helps with migraines but is really hard on the body. I hated Abilify! and I probably would only be on lithium if i had not been put on wellbutrin so many years ago when they misdiagnosed me for being depressed. I STILL WANT ONLY ONE DOCTOR! Thank you, but is there a doctor in the house that might know the answer to my question????
These are often prescribed for runners, sports injuries to joints, and those suffering from arthritis. Syva labs has recently reworked its Cannabinoid test and claims to have eliminated this problem. But a Science magazine article (July 8, 1988) lists Ibuprofen as cross reactive. Under the new government guidelines THC testing levels will be reduced to 50 nanograms. Many more THC false positives can be expected in 1994. Dristan Nasal Spray, Neosynephren, Vicks Nasal Spray, Sudafed, etc.
Got off BC felt great for 10 months, tried to get off zoloft and had another one so Dr put me on metformin to help with Pcos and 2 days before period I had another ... I'm wondering if mine are just hormonal attacks and if I'm still having them is my zoloft not working? Or is it just really strong ones, and I'm on a lowest dose?
