Topamax and magnesium

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax and magnesium

topamax

Avatar f tn Although Topamax is primary metabolized via the cyp450-3A4 and Welbutrin is is primary metabolized via the cyp450-2B6, there is some secondary drug/drug interaction between them. It is not a major interaction but can cut the effectiveness of one or both of the medications. Typically, when we have someone on anti-depressants that also suffers from migraines, we co-prescribe Gabitril (available as generic Tiagabine ) which is not to be confused with Gabapentin.
Avatar f tn It sure helps to know when you are not alone and others have the same side effects. Topamax helps my migraines and the weight loss is a plus too but the memory is suffering when it comes to writing and speech...like spelling...sometimes I know the word to use but can not even think of the letters to look it up so I end up using a different word in it's place...very frustrating. Speaking is another story. Sometimes it just isn't worth it to talk at all.
Avatar n tn I have tried topamax and inderal and they are not helping my headaches. What is next?
Avatar n tn Apparently I am experiencing heart spasms. I also have migraines which they feel are causing the arterial heart spasms. I had a heart catherization and my heart is healthy. I just have occasionally high blood pressure. Believe me I am as confused as you. That is why I am asking if it is okay to take Topamax for my migraines and Norvasc and Cardizem for my heart. I haven't spoke with a pharmacist as of yet. I will pick up the Norvasc today.
Avatar m tn I have been on topamax now for the their time for both chronic migraines and seizures, I started taking it at bed time but be sure you can get 8hours of sleep at night at first, after your body gets use to it you won't be so tired. I am a mother of 4 kids too and 2 are autistic and I take 50 mg at night and 50mg in the morning as well, as far as hair falling out my graves disease does that for me.lol.
Avatar f tn Verelan PM, 300mg and Topamax, 75, but also Magnesium Oxide, I did have low levels of Magnesium, and was put on 800 mg. daily. My magnesium levels are now within in range and now take 400 mg. daily, still along with my other meds. I also take a 81 mg. aspirin daily too. The stroke was caused from a constriction in the blood vessel and it shut off briefly long enough to do the same harm as if it were a clot, although I have no clotting issues.
587787 tn?1218804459 I have had several friends ask if I have been checked for cancer. I know the Topamax makes you lose weight, and my dr is aware of that. I need help with the neck and head pain. I cant stand this. It is really taking a toll on my life.
1033165 tn?1309435416 What help is there to stop this now. Increase topamax or what? Help these hurt and makes it very hard to deal with going to work and family life. Family doctor is doing lab work on my in about 3 wks for this when he rechecks my synthroid levels. But that can seem so far away.
1103688 tn?1257894552 The other two supplements that I have mentioned (B2 and Magnesium) are usually reasonably priced and there is overwhelming evidence that they are effective in preventing migraine headaches. So... although I take Coenzyme Q10 daily... I personally would suggest that other people try the B2 and Magnesium first.
745660 tn?1322273183 I have been having chronic headaches since December 15 after going to the ER for visual disturbance in my L eye. Magnesium level at that time was 1.9mg/dl. I was hypertensive at 218/116. and developed headache within 15 minutes of the visual problem which resolved when headache began. ER ? migraine of which I never experienced an aura before.
470964 tn?1240246255 About nine months and 2 miscarriages later, I decided that I really needed to be back on anti-depressants, so he put me back on Zoloft 100 mg/day as well as Topamax 50 mg/day for migraines. The Topamax has been working wonders for my migraines, and the Zoloft seemed to be working at first, but lately something doesn't seem right. I am not emotional, like crying, but I'm more angry, which was an issue before the Topamax, but I was able to control it better.
Avatar f tn t having undetected constipation as that can trigger migraines. Have him take calcium 500 mg and vitamin D 2000 mg at bedtime and magnesium citrate in the morning.
1888842 tn?1320993159 Over the past 3 years my migraines have become a daily routine. My most recent DR. has perscribed me 200mg of topamax, and although I have had some relief, the side effects have made me completely out of it, and almost dead feeling. It takes effort just to get out of bed, much less take care of my responsiblities. I've been fired from jobs, due to the severity of my migraines and not being able to make it to work.
Avatar f tn When my migraines became a daily issue I did go on Topamax and it helped some but not well enough... Mine mimic MS and can be dangerous in certain situations if not kept under control... The side effects were so bad I searched for other options - I hate medication to begin with. I found a supplement therapy that has been researched a great deal over seas and am now off of all medications and only have one migraine a month triggered by those lovely hormones...
1415174 tn?1453243103 I was on topamax and amitriptilyne And I am back on the am amitriptilyne. I was on 200 mg 2x daily of topamax. Let me tell you. First if all that is an extremely high dose. But I could not remember a single thing. I would ask a question and no joke in less than 5 minutes be asking basically the same question with absolutely no recollection what so ever!!! As a full time college student this created some what of a problem when attempting to study.
646017 tn?1224595225 I did some research on magnesium and it seems that this could be the problem. Also I started taking a supplement on my own and the headaches have slowed down and if I do have one there is not nearly the intensity of pain associated with them now. I have a doctor's appt. next week to have a complete lab work up done to check all my minerals and hormone levels and even my thyroid.
618913 tn?1234747600 I would suggest you to use the migraine tracker and try and identify the trigger for your migraines. It is also important to remember that magnesium supplements and Topamax take some time to act and the response is therefore not immediate. Please give yourself some time, in the meantime take rest and apply cold compresses to the head and lie down in a quiet dark room. A cup of coffee may also help.
Avatar f tn Hi and sorry you have this problem. It could be a migraine or it could be seizure related. Migraines are always on one side of the head or one eye. It is typical with some migraines to have vomiting. Do you have the numbness on the face or various parts of the body? That may be something else. Some migraines can make your face numb. I get shaking with my migraine variant as well but it only is at night and not all the time.
Avatar f tn This poor child is missing so much school and just missing out on being a teenager! She is already on topamax, trileptal, and magnesium. Hoping they find the right combo of meds soon!
Avatar f tn My eyes became very dry (had no side effects on topamax the first time) and irritated, I read about glaucoma and was seen by a specialist the next day, he looked and pressure tests Etc and said there was inflammation and dryness, I stopped the topamax and the eye drops got the inflammation down over the next week. However ever since then I've felt the same as I did when this all first started.
Avatar n tn I suffer the same. I found the best solution for me is magnesium. I take 250mg twice a day, morning and night. You can find it at any drug store or walmart. Give it two weeks. Then, I have maxalt and midrin on hand if I have a break through headache. I have gone down from 3 headaches a week to twice to three times a year. My nurse practitioner that does my yearly check ups recommended it to me and magnesium rocks! Good luck.
Avatar f tn I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.
Avatar f tn I just got onto Melatonin, which has regulated my sleeping, and also Chlor Tabs which has magnesium and helps allergies. It has helped a little. I'll continue to try different things and look into your recommendations.
1544786 tn?1293504543 I have had success with magnesium, and others have used Fever Few (Herb) This is a good explanation of numbness ect http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/26/Numbness-and-tingling Hope you are better....
Avatar f tn I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.
Avatar n tn I never leave home without them. I cannot take magnesium because I have had kidney stones, the topamax, and they said my magnesium levels were too high. topamax really helps with migraines but is really hard on the body. I hated Abilify! and I probably would only be on lithium if i had not been put on wellbutrin so many years ago when they misdiagnosed me for being depressed. I STILL WANT ONLY ONE DOCTOR!
