Hi Friendlysky137, Yeah my neurologist put me on the Lamictal with the Keppra to try stop everything but my eyes were still fluttering so he added the topomax after many years of just the Lamictal and Keppra. When I started the Lamictal, I felt fine but over time, I started feeling like you, my mind was starting to go. I have always been great at remembering numbers and things like that and found myself to be forgetting simple things.

However one lady who had this problem asked her pdoc and he advised selenium and zinc for med induced hair loss when she started losing hair (she thought Lamictal was the culprit but could not be sure) her hair loss stopped falling immediately. She took 200mcg of selenium (not mg) and 50 mg of zinc a day.

I was building the topamax up and lowering the lamictal down. Now I am just on the topamax. The side affects seem quite scary to me, severe dizziness and very off balance, I am always tired and have tingling in the hands and feet. I seem loss for words and confused. Will these side affects deteriorate over the a certain amount of time? It is difficult when I have to go to work and live everyday life. Please help.

in 2 months on Depakote and Seroquel. Am now on 200mg Lamictal and 20mg Lexapro and have lost 17 lbs. in 2 months. And the new drugs are working much better for me in controlling my bp symptoms. No need to suffer with unpleasant side effects. Each person reacts to the meds differently, so please have your son see his doctor, preferably a psychiatrist (specialist) who can prescribe alternative meds more suited to your son.

but i cant stop crying and being angry and iam still having seizues, and started me on zoloft, and dont understand iam taking meds for epilepsy than Med for the said Effects ,cuz its making me Depresset? GOD..

I'm 29 and bipolar, I was diagnosed at 19. I'm currently on a # of meds, lamictal, topamax, celexa, wellbutrin and Ativan. Lately I feel like I've been causing fights over the smallest things with my bf and then I get extremely emotional and cry. For instance I was hurt that he made plans with his family on Tuesday night bc I assumed he would want to hang out with me after work and not seeing each other for 4 days.

I am bipolar, have chronic migraines, and doing IVF. I use lithium and lamictal for my mood stabilizers and will stay on them through my pregnancy. The tentative plan is to add topamax after baby for the migraines and an added mood stabilizer boost. I am loving the possible side effect of weight loss as I am overweight, but I would be devastated if I lose my hair. I may have a migraine everday but they're not so bad I would hand over my hair for relief.

i say my new neoro today and he wanted me to look at 3 other meds(lamictal, topomax, and trileptal) and they all have just as bad or more side effects including severe acne. ive been trying to ghave a good attitude but its starting to get to me and it has almost eliminated my social life. i dont care what ppl think. acne does make a difference and i dont think a good looking girl would like me with my face all messed up.

I gained 30 lbs in 2 months on depakote -- doc took me off it and now on Lamictal and Lexapro. No problems so far, I'm feeling OK, and have lost 24 lbs in 3 months, still losing weight.

I am Type 2 Bipolar and currently take 200mgs of Lamictal, 900mgs of Neurontin, and 1.5mgs of Klonopin. My doctor and I will be weaning off of the Klonopin within the near future as we don't feel that it is medically necessary. I don't mind the Neurontin as I have been on and off of it for years. We are looking at just using the Neurontin and the Lamictal. However, a recent family even has gotten me wondering; would the Lamictal be a good enough mood stabilizer for me alone?

is anyone else on these two? I was recently diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and the doctor put me on lexapro and topamax. I have now heard horror stories about topamax and I don't want to take it. I want to know some alternatives.

I have been treated for tension headaches and migraines since 2009. I was diagnosed with JME when I was 13. I'm currently on 150 topamax and 500 lamictal for seizures. I have tried antimigraines, analgesics, muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal-anti-inflammatory and steroids, ssnri antidepressants and obviously acetaminophen and aspirin for headaches . I have one every single day but the severity of it varies. Within the past few days I have noticed slight shaking and weakness in my hands.

I will soon be on Topamax,lamictal and wellbrutin. Going off geodon and serequel. Did well on those meds but weight gain was main issue. Im being wean off. Thanks for any comments.

Brain fog, chatty kathy, spacey and just plain stupid, no appetite, tingling, and insomnia. I went from 50 to 75mg, 5 weeks later and 75 to 100mg 4 weeks later, working up slowly does help with the side effects. Over time I have found most of my side effects subside: I take it for nerve pain and complex migraines. Certain side effects have stayed: anything carbonated taste awful, tingling in hands and feet, small twitch in left eye for last week or so.

I'm on Lamictal and it's working well for me so far. It is a slow taper, 25 mg every two weeks until 100 mg, then you can go up by 50 mg every two weeks. So it takes a while to work, but it's really good for the depressive phase. It's great for BP II, and it's approved I believe as an add-on med for BP I stabilization. Topomax does get used for bipolar, but it causes major cognitive side effects in a lot of people, to the point of getting nicknamed "Dopamax".

Now last week I saw a new neuro for some seizure medicine complications and he is going to wean me off the Topamax and slowly put me on Lamictal, which I have begun, I am only on 25mg right now. Today I had a very small amount of alcohol, a mixed rum beverage, which I mixed myself, and I felt absolutley awful. My face turned bright red, I felt very flushed, and I felt out of sorts after drinking it.

I have to agree with greenlydia - it would be best to talk to a pharmacist about the interactions. Both Klonopin and Ativan are benzodiazepines, which, I'm sure, you know, but Klonopin is a longer acting one than Ativan, meaning it will take longer before it starts acting. If I were you, I'd ask your psych doc as many questions as possible regarding meds. My mother suffers from bipolar and is on Lamictal, Paxil and Xanax as needed.

Amazing how similar this is to what I am dealing with on an average daily. I am on lamictal and buspar too, I deal with forgetting bills to pay, I even forgot an appointment for my mammogram, and yes I do try to write it down but most of the time I'm alive I am feeling overwhelmed then my job has contributed to more debilitation and I have nobody to help me, I am alone in this and I'm tired of trying.

Hello! I'm currently on Lamictal but considering changing to Topamax since this drug (topamax) more effectively treats partial seizures and migraines. What is your experience with it?

The first time I was on Lamictal I took it in conjunction with Topamax. I believe it was the Topamax that was responsible for some weight loss, but it could have been Lamictal, too. I remember being specifically told that if I had winter carbohydrate craving they would probably go away from one or the other. Unfortunately, they were not effective for my bipolar. I have not taken an SSRI in years after bad experiences with Zoloft and Paxil so I can't advise you about the Prozac.

Hello Everyone, I'm very new community. My new dr. just recently told me that me that I'm bipolar. I had been on lamictal for about two years for depression and anxiety, but weaned myself off of it, as I was convinced that it was making me gain weight. When I weaned myself off, I fell into a deep depression and had to find myself a new dr. I started Topamax and Wellbutrin, but the Wellbutrin is making my thoughts and heart race. So I have to go off.

hi rB. I am on both neurontin and lamictal...however not as a combo for BP. the lamictal is for my BP but the neurontin is for pain............ the neutontin for pain I have been taking for many years and it had no effect on my BP...the lamictal was added about 3 yrs ago when the use of antidepressants weren't working. I too have never heard of neurontin being used as an medication for BP. But than again I'm not a psycho-pharmacologist either.

Right, I agree. Like I've said before, trust in my doctors has come hard before, and now w/ wanting to be stable, trusting them is key, and trusting myself to know when I'm feeling bad is key. I don't want to feel bad anymore. I've researched everywhere, asked you probably a MILLION questions right?!!! I called or emailed my doc every day for the first week because of s/e, but that was from Risperdal, now that I'm off that **** and just on Lamictal and Topamax I'm fine.

now i go this friday..im taking the lamictal with me..if im just hypo manic and depressed this should help me..when i took lithiem it did great for me..so im the only one who knows what im going threw a pdoc these days are much, much difft then in the past 20 yrs or more..physiologist are the diagnoses..a pdoc is more into knowing the meds..i have this strong feeling hes going to put me on another benzo like klonpin witch i took them for 12 yrs prior to the xanax...

what mood stasblizer wont cause weight gain if any??? exclude serquil and lithiem and topamax..cant do these already been on them..
