Avatar f tn Orthostatic hypotension is when your blood pressure drops suddenly and can cause fainting. When your blood pressure drops your heart rate should increase (sometimes dramatically) to compensate for the decreased blood flow. Beta blockers keep this from happening in some people so they will pass out or get dizzy upon standing or anything that lowers the blood pressure (cause the heart rate is blocked).
Avatar f tn Prednisone would raise your blood pressure (blood sugar, etc), and that in turn could cause headaches and other symptoms. It should reduce the inflammation on your face, but alas, pred can have quite a few side effects.
284078 tn?1282616698 ) Her ocular pressure was actually only slightly elevated and with cessation of the Topamax, her pressure returned to normal in a day, while it took over a week for her vison to return to normal. It was extremely impressive the way the lens moved forward initially. After a week, the lens moved back to normal position and the eye looked completely different as if from another person. It was really something I will never forget.

Avatar n tn I am 32 and have suffered from migraines for about 3 years. They started pretty much out of the blue, however, a lot of people in my family suffer from them. I have tried nortriptaline, amitriptaline, verapamil, all without success. The first two didn't do anything for my migraines, and the verapamil made my blood pressure so low I couldn't function.

Avatar n tn clonidine (it's actually a blood pressure medication) is typically used a lot for opiate wd's....it works because during wd's, your blood pressure tends to rise and you get uncomfortable symptoms, and the clonidine helps your blood pressure return to normal....only thing to watch out for is if your blood pressure is NOT that high, because then the clonidine can make you very dizzy, lightheaded and woozy....
1448748 tn?1312956208 Good to know...he put me on a steroid called prednisone for 10 days then taper off. because he says since I have all this inflammation my body and the surgery it could cause a sudden climb in the pressure. He said if steroids don't work he still try diamox then shunt I an already on topamax. I got my medications adjusted correctly because of it, so it was a blessing in disguise. How dangerous is a shunt? What additional complications does it bring?
