topamax and heart problems

Apparently I am experiencing heart spasms. I also have migraines which they feel are causing the arterial heart spasms. I had a heart catherization and my heart is healthy. I just have occasionally high blood pressure. Believe me I am as confused as you. That is why I am asking if it is okay to take Topamax for my migraines and Norvasc and Cardizem for my heart. I haven't spoke with a pharmacist as of yet. I will pick up the Norvasc today.

I was on Topamax for about 3 years for sever migraines and saw nothing different with my thyroid problems. I researched Topamax and here are all of the possible side effects (doesn't look like your hair loss or thyroid problems can be attributed to Topamax): Autonomic Nervous System Disorders: Infrequent: vasodilation. Body as a Whole: Frequent: syncope. Infrequent: abdomen enlarged. Rare: alcohol intolerance.

What I do notice is a huge increase in anxiety and my heart is racing. I usually run, and I can run without my heart feeling like its going to pop out of my chest. I have insomnia too. My dr. said its not listed as a side effect, so she's not sure what's going on. Has anybody else had this happen? She gave me seroquel to help me sleep, but I'm afraid to take it because I'm afraid it will make me hungry. Agh!!!!

Topamax is used for a lot of things it isn't necessarily labeled for. It's also used for treatment of nerve-related pain. Docs love to give it to patients with spine pain because it's not a narcotic. I know topamax has helped people with pain, but I wasn't one of them. I got every side effect on the fine-print enclosure, including a wooden tongue and numb, nearly paralyzed extremeties. Hadn't even titrated up to a "therapeutic" dose yet.

I have been to a opthamoligist and that was my first confirmation. And i went to my neroligist he also said Topamax was not the cause of my eye sight problems. In fact i have a cateract in my left eye.I also stopped the Topamax for a little while. But i will go back to it in a couple months.It did help with the migranes. And i have been takeing it for Eight years with no problems. Good luck.

hello, anyone on topamax? I've been on it for about five weeks and its been great for my migraines but I've been having a lot of side effects! like tingling in my hand and feet and really bad heart burn every day! also get moody and cry. very bad fatigue too. will any of this go away???

I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.

i seem to have mostly visual problems and some pain with my migraines.. my perception definately feels off and my eye gets really low on the right side of my head.. i was wondering .. does it make a difference in a dignoses with it being on one side of my head mostly?? and i seem to be so depressed ever since these symptoms started... i have been on all the antidepressents in the world..is it normal to have depression with migraines when they seem to be constant??

I also take a number of medications, including Topamax for migraine, blood pressure meds, Celebrex, asthma medication and diabetes medication. However I have had recurring visual disturbances that only happen at night. I get up in the middle of the night - to go to the bathroom - and the bathroom is covered in geometric patterns, like a checkered pattern or little lacework pattern. It's everywhere, the walls, tub, sink, floor. I feel like I'm tripping on something!

It sure helps to know when you are not alone and others have the same side effects. Topamax helps my migraines and the weight loss is a plus too but the memory is suffering when it comes to writing and speech...like spelling...sometimes I know the word to use but can not even think of the letters to look it up so I end up using a different word in it's place...very frustrating. Speaking is another story. Sometimes it just isn't worth it to talk at all.

To cut through the chase, he gave 25MG of Topamax. All the drug did was make me lose my appetite and actually made me feel even more claustrophobic. I actually lost my last doctors appt since I got a panic attack while driving. Didn't it make sense to first treat the anxiety and than the possible mood disorder? Should I take both a SSRI and a mood stabilizer?

I noticed that once I stopped taking Wellbutrin and as my headaches improved I lowered my dose of Topamax, the weight loss eased off and it took about 6 months to get back to my usual weight. I have experienced the same! 6 months on topamax for migraine pain. Topamax caused seizures and thyroid problems plus numerous other smaller issues that compound to complete life altering issues. I cannot find a doctor in my network that will address this. They will only prescribe more drugs for the symptoms. They are incredibly uneducated in this next generation of doctors, only knowing how to prescribe drugs.

Cambia is diclofenac, the same thing as Voltaren (a different brand name), and increases risk of heart or circulatory problems, which includes stroke & heart attack. The longer it is taken, the greater the risk. It's recommended if you take this drug and experience things like chest pain, shortness of breath, slurred speech, weakness, or balance or visual problems that you seek emergency professional care.

The thing that works best for me as a preventative is Excedrin - just plain old, over-the-counter Excedrin, but the problem with this is that I have multiple digestive problems, among which is the tendency to develop gastric ulcers, and my gastroenterologist would really like it if I would stop taking Excedrin. Topamax can cause fetal heart and cleft heart abnormalities during the first trimester and can cause early abortions and low birth rates and growth factors. So its a scary factor. I am going to try if I did it before.

I was taking Topamax, but it started my period up extremely heavy and painful. I do have Fibroid tumors in my uterus. Do you think it was the cause of it and if so do you know of something else I can go on to help with weight loss?

For a while when I first started taking the topamax I was really worn and out and felt weird all of the time, but I've been on it since the end of Aug '08 and that doesn't happen anymore. I do get drowsy when I take it, but I just take it before bed now. I don't know about the diarrhea thing though. Were you eating with them? Or were you allergic?

my whole digestive track and stomach has been messed up since, i started with constipation, now i have diarrhea often, stomach cramps, and loss of appetite from the topamax. i started smoking weed this year, and its the only thing that helps me eat and maintain my weight. but recently i had pooped mucus alone, right after i had pooped. and it happened again tonight. but i have no blood in it, no irritation, inflammation, anything else whatsover. just stomach problems.

Are cognitive problems most common with this drug, i.e. memory and confusion? Do they tend to subside after awhile? Also, have you ever heard of spatial disorientation as a side effect of Lamictal? Thanks in advance!

Consult the physician first, especially if your vision problems began after you started taking Topamax.

If all cardiological testing comes back normal, my neurologist explained that she would feel comfortable diagnosing me with "abnormal reporting of seizure." But I'm scared.
