Topamax and hair falling out

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax and hair falling out

topamax

Avatar m tn I started on 40mg of prednisone a day in the beginning of January. Then was put on Topamax about five weeks ago. At that point, my hair started falling out three times more than before. I'm talking my hands are covered every time I wash it, plus there is hair all over the bathroom floor, counter top, etc., by the time I'm done in there. It's getting really, really thing. I've been off the Topamax for two weeks almost, and it's still falling out heavily.
739988 tn?1386672969 Topamax made all of my hair fall out, i was thin, but now kinda bald! Plus once I stopped taking it I gained a ton of weight!
Avatar f tn how soon after taking this can I expect to see my hair falling out and at any time while taking this will my hair stop falling out. Please any help with this one would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn And sadly, it appears to be permanent, even after getting off of Topamax. My hair stopped falling out, but what I lost has never grown back. My ponytail is almost half as thick as what it used to be. Thankfully, I had a lot of hair to begin with and the loss was all over, so no big bald spots. I do take Biotin now to try & increase my hair growth, but I think it’s only helping me to retain what I have left.
Avatar n tn My doc put me on Metformin as an anti-aging measure (lengthening of the telomeres). I've been on 1000 mg/day since late February and my hair has been falling out like crazy! I'm distraught about how thin it has gotten and stopped taking Metformin cold turkey as of this week. My questions are: (1) How long after one stops taking Metformin does the hair loss stop? (2) Will my hair grow back and return to normal?
Avatar f tn My eyes, nose, and everything else is dry to the point of I had to rush to the eye doctor (had extremely dry eye), nose sores that bleed, and now my hair is falling out. The doctor did hormone and thyroid test and just called they are normal. He put me on biotin for a month. Should I stop the topamax or go further with blood work since my family has problems. He said the biotin and a multivitamin should help but I have mood swings, constaption, headaches...just don't know? Any ideas.

1041303 tn?1421387341 issues, it is nicknamed Dopamax by a lot of people. My hair started falling out so much that my hair dresser asked me if I was on chemo. With all of the side effects, I just told my doctors to forget it, to find something else. I hope you have a much better time with it and that it will work great for you without the reactions I had.
Avatar f tn Yes I heard its very normal my hair doesn't come out when I put my hands through it but it does when I comb and brush it.
1477811 tn?1321386453 You've got the right attitude June. Just own it...make it fun (if you end up needing to)! The answer to "when" hair starts falling varies so much from person to person. I know of one woman who did 24 weeks of TX and her hair didn't start falling out until AFTER treatment ended. So, some start losing it early on, some later and some not at all. Pretty much a crap shoot on that one.
1100598 tn?1413127426 This worked, but on Sunday and Monday I kept falling and ended up in the ER again because my legs kept giving out on me. I saw my primary doctor, who did a neuro exam and said it was all normal and can't figure out what my problem is. But I have bouts of weakness and numbness in my legs and left arm as well as chest pain, palpitations and shortness of breath. I am scheduled for a brain MRI next week. All my blood work, EKG, urine tests, heart echo is all normal.
20790871 tn?1507161421 I recently got my blood tested because I have mono(which has hit me hard), and aside from the mono and white blood cell count (low neutrophils and high lymphocytes-presumably from fighting off the mono), everything was normal. My ferritin and thyroid tests also came back normal. I have a regular period and healthy diet. I've tried researching Lexapro and Wellbutrin side effects, but didn't find much on hair loss associated with these medications. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Avatar f tn I thought hair was supposed to look nicer during pregnancy? I just feel like mine is falling out! Maybe I'm just being crazy. But I'm 12 weeks and it's starting to worry me. I lose handfuls of hair a day. Is this normal?
Avatar n tn why is my hair falling out & clogging the drains? It is all in the tub when I wash my hair & when I comb my hair you can see hair all over the floor in the sink......it is scary!!!!! My hair gets in my food YUCK!!
Avatar f tn Idk if it's normal I'm 14 weeks and im loosing alot of hair after showers and brushing I mean you can't tell but is it normal?
Avatar f tn I had the opposite in that my hair got thicker and after I was done with the pregnancies and breast feeding, the hair came back out. If it is really bad, ask your ob about it. But some hair loss or growth during pregnancy is normal.
1196903 tn?1277143161 I also had my head shaved before my hair fell out, and have the same experience as "shewrites" above. I do have one thought I'd like to share. I was dreading losing my hair. I talked to my husband about it, saying how embarrassed I was gonna be, waking up next to him every morning, bald. He replied, with his typical insight, "would you rather wake up bald or wake up dead?" My hair is completely back now, full and beautiful!
Avatar n tn I feel pretty good but my hair is falling out and I have a slight tremor on my left had when I get up in the morning. I take the lowest amount of the med which is 0.05. My doctor which is a family doctor sent me to a dermatologist to see if there was something else wrong. The doctor ran 3 blood tests to check my thyroid levels, male pattern baldness, DHEA levels. the tests came in negative or in the range I'm supposed to be at. I am going back tomorrow to my family doctor.
1232362 tn?1333135406 Due to financial issues I haven't been able to fill my topamax script and won't be able to for at least another week. How will this affect me and when I can refill should I just start back up like nothing happened? So far I seem ok.
669975 tn?1225668791 It hurts to move, I wanted to put my hair up the other day because I was hot and it hurt to move my hair! I was also given a hug and I thought I was going to die because of the pain it put me in! I have tried taking pain medication and nothing seems to be helping. I can't live like this, Im in SO much pain, and I need some sort of help even if it’s a pill that will ease the pain so I can go to work. Thank You!!!
Avatar m tn It is an autoimmune disease characterized by unpredictable, nonscarring hair loss of the eyelashes and eyebrows. In such cases, to promote growth of eyebrows, just eat a healthy protein rich diet and take some multivitamin supplements for some days. The most important nutrients are biotin, silica, magnesium, sulfur, zinc, and vitamin B6. There are many eyebrow growth products in the market, but their efficacy has not been scientifically proven.
Avatar f tn I mean, yes, I get tired and my hair thins, but it was far before I started Topamax, and did not get any worse when I was prescribed the medication. Those things happened as a result of my anorexia and bulimia. I don't feel like I helped much, but I'm happy to talk or answer any other questions.
Avatar n tn And in the event that you do lose all your hair there are plenty of women who have lost their hair due to alopecia and choose to wear wigs and even have permanent makeup done to cover this up. Just remember whatever it is you're not alone Best of Luck!! ~S.A.
