Avatar m tn Diet modification and supplementation is a good alternative in decreasing the dosage and the associated side effects of certain medicatons such as topamax. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn I have been on Topamax for quite sometime but was tired of living in a fog of constant confusion, fatigue, and lack of focus. I was switch to Metoprolol. I have been taking it so far for a week and without fail every single day multiple times a day I have extreme chest pains directly under my left breast. It feels like a stabbing pain. Attempting to breath during an episode is excruciating. Is it due to the new medication?
Avatar f tn I am on day 14 of the Topamax and it is seems to be helping. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I have increased energy and have only had to take ibuprofen for headaches. I will keep you posted.
Avatar f tn I have been thinking I was going into a bad relapse with major fatigue and mamory problems when I happened to stumble on a site mentioning topomax. Has anyone here been on it? Am curious if perhaps the drug is causing the symptoms rathe rthan the MS? Thanks.
1512520 tn?1290258130 I am on 100 mg of topamax a day ( 50mg 2x daily) and got a sinus infection on day 7 of starting topamax, been battling it for over a week now with antibiotics and it doesnt seem to be going away. Doctor said that I might have to decrease my topamax and I really dont want to as it seems to be working, if anything I was hoping to increase my topamax dose... Anyone else suffer this side effect, did it go away?
1781720 tn?1314842836 Usual side effects of topamax may include fatigue, impaired concentration, dizziness, and paresthesias (tingling, numbness, pins and needles sensation). Kidney stones, as mentioned by Eddie and sometimes weight loss are often observed with continued treatment. Dosage reduction is often done by your doctor to help with these side effects. Take care and regards.
765027 tn?1234659832 I am recently taking Topomax (topamax) and I am suffering from these strange feelings that wake me up from sleeping in a feeling like I am going to die. I am afraid to go back to sleep because I am afraid I will die. I know sounds crazy. I am now not sleeping! I will stay up all night long until it is time to get my daughters up fro school at 6 a.m. and I am soooo crazy tired.
Avatar f tn I would talk to your doctor about fatigue. I have the same problem - I get tired during the day, and sometimes I could just nod off at work! I take acetyl-L-carnitine, which is a nutritional supplement (OTC.) It seems to help. If I need more help, most likely I'll go with amantadine or something similar.
1100837 tn?1267668675 Hello, Your Rheumy should be able to prescribe the Ritalin if you so choose this option, or the Topamax if decide to dump the Savella and switch. Fatigue is a common symptom of both RA and Fibro, so I would think you wouldn't have to go to a psychiatrist to get that prescription.
Avatar f tn He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school. Got a call form the nurse about an hour later saying that he blanked on his math test, couldn't remember anything they worked on in the last week or so.
410475 tn?1262942367 For a while when I first started taking the topamax I was really worn and out and felt weird all of the time, but I've been on it since the end of Aug '08 and that doesn't happen anymore. I do get drowsy when I take it, but I just take it before bed now. I don't know about the diarrhea thing though. Were you eating with them? Or were you allergic?
Avatar f tn I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.
1558393 tn?1299070031 Any way my great family doctor is slowly taking me off the Keppra. I go back in two weeks and he is going to try Topamax. Does anyone take this? If so does it work with your headaches? Do you have any side effects? Also has any of you been approved for disability for your Chiari? I did not want to quit my job if there was no hope.
Avatar f tn I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.
5857909 tn?1375628784 I have reduced quite all my medication and I feel like slowly back to being the person i used to be I am currently taking only 50mg of Topamax and I can say that the pain disappeared almost completely and the goal is to be free of this medicine at year end. Also I have feelings of anger, because I think I've been taking Topamax for over 10 years without any sense. I think I have found what was the source of all my chronic pain and Topamax was not helping me at all.
975514 tn?1324997938 I've been taking Topamax for about 2.5 months and since then noticed some issues with my left eye. Within a month of being on Topamax my left eye seemed very dry, so I thought I was suffering from allergies (which I do have). I purchased some over the counter allergy eye drops, which caused my left eye to dilate, which scared me. Being cautious, I went to see a optician for a basic check up because I know about the possible Glaucoma complication with Topamax as well.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever responded to the original questions posted in 2010? I am curious. I have been taking 300 mg Wellbutrin and 200 mg Topamax since May 2016 and have lost approx 30lbs. I wasn't aware of the side affects and my doctor said as long as I feel fine there is no reason to run tests. I just want to make sure others are having this same significant weight loss.
Avatar f tn Oh and vistaril too.
Avatar f tn I have just been prescribed it as a mood stabilizer, I take it at night only (to decrease side effects and due to fatigue) and have titrated up to 50mg and will be upping to 75mg this week (25mg a week - going slow because I am pretty neurotic about meds) and will prob stop at 100 or 150mg as per Pdoc.
Avatar f tn I initially had severe fatigue that got better after 2-3 weeks. Also had bad tingling in the fingers or hands and feet. That mostly goes away with time. https://www.mayoclinic.

Avatar n tn All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?

Avatar f tn Hi everyone! I was just released from the hospital and I have Pseudo Tumor Cerebri and ICP. I am 33 year old female and never had a headache problem so this constant pain *****:( I know that Topamax won't treat a headache but helps to prevent... But I wanted to hear if anyone had any positive experiences with Topamax? Today is only my second day and I've only noticed mild dizziness. Any major side effect experiences? Thanks a bunch!!
