topamax and effexor

I just started using Topamax and Effexor together but it doesn't seem to be helping. I feel so lethargic and don't have much appetite. Has anyone tried anything else that works better?

i'm on several medications: concerta 52 mg, topamax, and effexor. i am so tired still during the day. i'm also cold. i thought concerta would keep me focussed during the day; not still have me feeling lazy. what is wrong with me.

Hi All, Besides having horrible migraine pain, lights and sound are extremely painful. My neurologist has me on Topamax, Effexor, and Toradol self-injections (when pain levels exceed 8-9). Has anyone had any success with any other treatment? medications? I am willing to try anything....sigh..... thanks in advance.

I also have an accute sensitivity to light and sound, to the point where I am housebound most of my time, living in a semi-dark and soundless, controlled environment. My Neurologist and PCP put me on 150 mg of Topamax and 150 mg of Effexor. He also gave me Toradal vials to inject myself in the hip with 60 mgs when my migraines hit level 8 and above.

i had horrifying experiences with topamax. Sorry my brains not awake yet so my spellings way off. I know lots and lots of people that have wonderful results from the effexor.

All the issues I was having were from this drug - not just the weight gain, but the urinary frequency, the fatigue, the digestive problems, the allergy-like symptoms, all of it. Needless to say, I called my doctor and told him I was stopping the Effexor. It took over a month to taper-off of the drug and most of the side effects are gone, but I have still been unable to lose any of the weight. It is so frustrating.

I think it was the combination of going off of the Zoloft and starting on the Topamax that caused the weight loss. I recently was prescribed Abilify and started gaining weight immediately. I stopped taking it. Good luck!

I suffer from chronic daily headaches and take upwards of 12 or more fioricet a day as well as topamax and effexor for prevention of migraines. Since my doctor will only prescribe up to 6 fioricet per day, I have resorted to orderly brand fioricet online as $200 for 90 tablets. My questions are how to detox at home off fioricet - should I take 12 tabs, then 11 the next day, then 10 the next day or what? Also, is it illegal to get fioricet from my doctor as well as ordering online?

The withdrawal effects from Paxil and Effexor XR in particular are the worst. Withdrawing from Effexor XR using a low dose of Prozac helped a bit. You may want to tuck this piece of information away if you ever need it down the road. Before supplementing your regimen with 5-HTP, please discuss it first with your doctor. Although I believe you are correct regarding its association with serotonin, it's best to get the "ok" from your doctor.

m on Topamax as well for mood stabilization and Effexor for the depression side of BP. I do know what you mean about the serotonin. I had an oral surgeon give me Tramadol once and it interacted with the Effexor to the point of Serotonin Syndrome. I took blood for tests and put me on cymbalta for the time being. I am now tappering off my Effexor and up to 60 mg of the cymbalta. I haven't gotten the test results back yet. anyway, my question is--Has anyone had luck with cymbalta? And does cymbalta work for fibro and cfs? Why isn't he referring me to a neuro or a pain mgmt doc?

I also went on Topamax as a mood stabilizer and to help get the extra weight off. So...fingers crossed!

I just do not want to have to go through all of this withdrawal stuff and then have to wait to build up on the effexor. Any thoughts? And any thoughts on how to help with the withdrawal symptoms?

I am glad you are at least getting the support of a Celebrate Recovery group, but am sorry you are not able to get "formal therapy" right now. It's really great though that you are taking the initiative to go to that group though. That's a big step in itself that you are doing it for yourself you know? Do you have insurance by chance? I know that's a bit of a personal question but insurance does usually help with therapy and such.

and left arm left leg left side of face go numb and cant speak well and lose balance and throw up. and have had these weird episodes where i get high pitched sound in ears and then im awake but im not really there but i look completely normal. then my right arm feels off and weird ...i have no memory of what someone said to me or what happened. and i feel zoned out( not diagnosed.) i am always tired!-on verapamil topamax nortripilyne effexor baby aspirin. not on high doses of anything!!!!

I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.

I have reduced quite all my medication and I feel like slowly back to being the person i used to be I am currently taking only 50mg of Topamax and I can say that the pain disappeared almost completely and the goal is to be free of this medicine at year end. Also I have feelings of anger, because I think I've been taking Topamax for over 10 years without any sense. I think I have found what was the source of all my chronic pain and Topamax was not helping me at all.

I've been taking Topamax for about 2.5 months and since then noticed some issues with my left eye. Within a month of being on Topamax my left eye seemed very dry, so I thought I was suffering from allergies (which I do have). I purchased some over the counter allergy eye drops, which caused my left eye to dilate, which scared me. Being cautious, I went to see a optician for a basic check up because I know about the possible Glaucoma complication with Topamax as well.

Has anyone ever responded to the original questions posted in 2010? I am curious. I have been taking 300 mg Wellbutrin and 200 mg Topamax since May 2016 and have lost approx 30lbs. I wasn't aware of the side affects and my doctor said as long as I feel fine there is no reason to run tests. I just want to make sure others are having this same significant weight loss.

All of a sudden, I have experienced joint pain and stiffness. I found out that topamax can lead to these side effects. however, I have gradually gone off the topamax and have quit taking it for approximately 4 - 5 days. Today I am still stiff (shoulders, knee, wrist and ankles) and my ankles are swollen. Do you think this is still a side effect of Topamax in my system?

I just logged on here at 3 am to see if anyone else had these symptoms with this drug. my legs and arms are numb and like needles and pins, I have diahrrea and nausa every day and food dosen't tast good at all. I itch all over which is keeping me awake. I am going to stop taking it. can't call the doc till monday, but can't stand this either. good luck to you.
