Topamax and abilify

Common Questions and Answers about Topamax and abilify

topamax

Avatar n tn When I weaned myself off, I fell into a deep depression and had to find myself a new dr. I started Topamax and Wellbutrin, but the Wellbutrin is making my thoughts and heart race. So I have to go off. The Topamax is making me foggy, so I'll have to lower my dose. The dr. is recommending that I go on Abilify, but I'm terrified of weight gain. (I'm bulimic). I did take the 2 mg.
Avatar m tn It has all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to help prepare for the baby. With the abilify and topamax, you will need to talk to your doctor and ask them about it. I was on abilify before I got pregnant with my son and needed to be taken completely off of it. But there is another medication that you can go on if you do become pregnant but I refused to take anything other than the prenatals when I was pregnant.
1029865 tn?1252418538 My main mood stabilizer is abilify, secondary is Topamax, mainly because of the severe migraines I get. But it definitely helps with the moods as well. Just out of curiosity, does anyone else experience anxiety mostly at night??
Avatar f tn Everybody is different and responds to medication differently. The best and most all-around useful mood stabilizer for me has been Topamax. It is an anti-convulsant, also indicated for propylaxis of migraines (which I also have). The great side effect, if you're overweight, is WEIGHT LOSS. Be careful, though. I've lost 54 lb. in 10 months; now underweight and have continued to lose, in spite of attempts to gain.
1276940 tn?1564515084 Hi! I am the one you answered the question for about the possible Papilledema......well I have another question......I am currently on a few routine meds......they include: Topamax, Zoloft & Abilify. I was wondering if me taking the Topamax (or any of the other meds) would possibly cause me to have the possible Papilledema? I have been on it for almost 2 years now and the possible Papilledema was not seen during last years eye exam....... Thank you so much in advance!
Avatar m tn Topamax was prescribed to counteract the weight gain from Zyprexa and then Abilify. I am going to see my pdoc about my metformin venture. I had a saliva test done recently and found my seritonin level was extremely low. Started Deplin and 5HTP and stopped all AD's what a difference.
Avatar f tn Once I reached the therapeutic dose of Lamictal, I stopped Abilify and immediately experienced rapid fluctuations between depression and mania and my therapist told me to go back on Abilify at a reduced 2.5 mg. In addition, since beginning Lamictal + Abilify I have consistently gained 40 pounds.... 10 of which were gained within the 2 weeks I restarted Abilify at 2.5 mg. As someone who has a history of body dysmorphia and eating disorders, I NEED a different treatment.
Avatar n tn I think it was the combination of going off of the Zoloft and starting on the Topamax that caused the weight loss. I recently was prescribed Abilify and started gaining weight immediately. I stopped taking it. Good luck!
407790 tn?1397761026 ) I also take Lamictal (200 mg) and Topamax (200 mg), the latter mostly to help me lose the weight I gained on Pristiq (I quit that a month ago and started taking Cymbalta instead.) I also take Adderall because I have narcolepsy. I know, quite a cocktail. I have been on just about every AD there is for the past 20 years. I don't remember exactly when I was officially diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression…a few years ago?
Avatar f tn A lot of the meds cause weight gain and excessive hunger but we are all different and react differently to certain ones. Abilify can make you hyperglycemic which makes you extra thirsty and extra hungry.. This isn't good and your doctor should be more understanding. There isn't much that the doctor would prescribe to control your appetite but she could try you on a different med.
Avatar f tn I'm just learning about adult ADHD also, and I saw the topic discussed on the new show, The Doctors. They showed a machine for looking at which parts of the brain are being affected by ADHD, since there are different types and symptoms with different people. I don't think the machine is widely available yet, but I was fascinated to see that the little boy they tested was found to not be a good candidate for a stimulant drug.
Avatar f tn I know all the usual suspects and Topamax jokes (dopamax, tingling, word recall, etc) that you read on the brochure or hear about, but I wanted some personal feedback as far as how long the effects last and if they diminish. So far I haven't really had word recall issues and I've had some tingling but read that meant I needed to up my water intake and once I did that, the paresthesia (tingles) went away immediately. What I do feel is TIRED....
1276940 tn?1564515084 I should mention that I am Bipolar and I take several meds to help control it.....they include: Abilify, Zoloft, Klonopin & Topamax.....I noticed something new.....my right heel tingles & then goes numb......it only lasts for about 4 or 5 minutes then it's gone like it never even happened. I do experience tingling toes from the Topamax but I have never had my heel tingle then go numb! I have been on Topamax for over 1 1/2 years now.....
5032487 tn?1365824021 Lamictal is weight neutral, and is great for bipolar II, and packs most of its weight against depression. Geodon and Abilify are also supposed to be weight neutral, Geodon a little more so than Abilify. Trileptal is weight neutral as well, but its use in bipolar is technically off-label.
Avatar m tn Zeldox (Geodone in the US) caused rapid weight lose for me. It was great at first - lost all the ziprexa weight. In the space of a year I was a size 2 and couldn't keep weight on. So we switched to Abilify. I am still slender but not nearly as bad.
505907 tn?1258369340 my daughter has put on alot of weight with depakote and has an appt with her consultant next week, we were thinking of asking about changing her to topamax she also takes abilify. Anyone else on abilify and topomax?? Is it true topamax makes you loose wieght???
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder with PTSD and I was put on xanax 1mg to take 2 1/2 a day. I was experiencing mainly what my psychiatrist called mania where I would be ridiculously irritable and nervous/shaky. While the xanax took care of most of this, at times I still experience a very bad mood and have anger problems, where I fly off the handle at things that wouldn't bother most people to that extreme.
Avatar n tn Of the mood stabilizers, Lamictal is weight neutral. Topamax and Zonegran (both anticonvulsants used off-label for mood stabilization) are associated with weight loss. Of the atypical antipsychotics, Abilify and Geodon have the lowest risk of weight gain.
Avatar f tn Psych: Effexor XR, Topamax, Lexapro, Seroquel, Trazadone, Xanax (prn) Other: Aciphex (GERD), Detrol (Urinary issue), Evoxac (Sjogrens), Levoxyl (Thyroid), Oxycotin (pain), Plaquenil (Lupus), Provigil (alterness), Vicodin PRN (pain), 3 tropical ointments, 8 OTC vitamins/minerals 12 Rx daily (over 20 actual pills, some as many as 4x/day) 3 topicals 2 PRNs 8 OTCs Do I win? I never win anything, so, maybe in my loss of health, I can win in the number of meds I take!
Avatar f tn I am currently on Tegretol, Lamictal, Cyprelex and Abilify. I am thinking of asking my doctor to add on Topomax. I have read that it helps with weight loss and I am having a really hard time with my weight due to all of the other meds. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?? Thank you in advance.
712802 tn?1274645485 What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.
15714039 tn?1442450888 I also am taking a medicinal pill cocktail of Atenolol, Norvasc, Wellbutrin, Topamax, Lamotragin, Abilify, and Cymbalta. I also suffer from Bi-polar and have been on some od these meds and others for @ 15 years. I do know that I have to take most/some of these and that the SSRI's do/can cause ED. My ultimate concern is that my libido may have permanently be altered to a lower level and that it might not be able to be raised. My marriage and my wife really are deserving of that.
Avatar m tn I am on 90 mg of Cymbalta and just started 15 mg of Abilify for depression. My doctor has titrated me up on the Abilify gradually. My question is for anyone who take 15 mg of Abilify for depression. Have you experienced any side effects? When you're depressed and trying to get your medications right it just isn't fun. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
