The various causes of leg pain are atherosclerosis, deep vein thrombosis - leg pain on walking (A blood clot in a deep vein), Leriche syndrome (block in abdominal aorta and/or main leg artery), limb ischaemia (low oxygen to limbs), spondylitis of lower vertebrae and peripheral vascular disease (arteries of limbs are involved). You need Doppler tests or angiograms to diagnose vascular causes.
Hello, I wrote in a question recently about a hard pea sized lump on top of my foot. I appreciate the answers I received and now I have another one. The lump is hard like bone and is not painful. It is located on the outside edge between my little toe and ankle. It may have been there awhile and I have just noticed it or it could be a new occurance. I went to my family physician today and he ordered an x-ray. The lump also does not move. The x-ray did not show anything.
I'm a runner and recently got a pain on top of foot, as if my laces were too tight 9they may have been!) recently been doing a lot of off road running on uneven hard surface. it seems to be in the Extensor Hallucis Brevis area and there is a squashy lump the size of a smallish coin in that area, which isn't really painful to touch. If I loosen my laces in that area I can walk and do a bit of running without too much discomfort.
Its embarrassing. I have a vein growing on TOP of my big toe. It grows out from the cuticle... it grows and is filled with blood, but closed off at the end. When I cut my toe nails I have to cut the vein and it gets very very messy, and sometimes painful, where I have to press on it for ages to stop the bleeding and seal it off again. I've had it for over 20 years when I was in the army and having to wear steel capped boots all the time.
I had bypass surgery September 2009 and the vein was taken out of my lower left leg. The last 3 days my left foot has been swelling and I can't put a shoe on. If I stretch my foot forward it is quite painful. I believe the swelling is starting to go up the leg. My ankle is also swollen. What would cause this?
t mention is the pain was dull, sharp or what part of the foot. If the pain is on the top of the foot, in the metatarsals, an arthritis etiology might be considered. Because you have the pain in other areas, I would suspect the problem may be vascular. The pain between the calf and shin plus the pain in the pelvic area points toward a vascular origin. If it were just the foot I might suggest a podiatrist, however you need a good general work-up.
I have read multiple posts about this and have also read about the Mortons condition, but I think mine is different. On occasion such as last night, I was awoke by a stabbing pain on the top of my right foot. I refer to these as "labor pains" because you can feel the jolt coming on and it lasts for a couple of seconds then subsides. It is like a burning electrical shock. It will continue to do it at anywhere from 30 to 45 second intervals. My toes are unaffected.
The pain can either be a dull ache along the side of my foot (not on the bottom) or a shooting pain that goes across the top of my foot (near my leg). I do seem to have some swelling there as well. I am overweight. I work 12 hour shifts at a hopsital...and it is definately worse when the shifts are busy and I am on my feet more. I used to do the walk fit DVDs, but can't anymore because of the discomfort after only 5 minutes.
I was sitting in my computer chair at home, and I noticed one of the veins on the top of my right foot was about 4 or 5 times larger than that same vein on my left foot... I had never seen any of my veins that big before... I am known for the doctors having a hard time finding veins on me to draw blood...
I didn't think a WHOLE lot about it... and about 5-10 minutes later I looked at my foot again because the thought of blood clot ran through my head...
Plantar fasciitis, arthritis of small joints, diabetic neuropathy, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, over weight, deep vein thrombosis, wrong foot wear, gout, etc are a few causes of foot pain.
Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. You may need to consult an orthopedic specialist and get X-ray and maybe MRI of the feet, nerve conduction studies, blood glucose examination etc. Take care!
Now my right foot is swollen still two days later. The pain is on the top of my right foot on the inner side. No bruise but very discomforting. Sometimes, I can not put any weight on it and the pain is unbearable. A red color bout the size of a half dollar piece is visible and the skin is very warm to the touch. Any suggestions of what this may be?
I would suggest you to go for an X-ray and check if there is any problem with the talus bone which is present on top of the arch of your foot. As there is very little soft tissue to protect the top of the foot, bone injuries are common. The second, third and fourth Metatarsals are the most commonly injured bones due to something falling on your foot. Without any fracture you would need physiotherapy and anti inflammatory medications to decrease the pain and inflammation.
Hi... I have what the doctor believes to be a ganglion cyst on the top of my foot (still needing confirmation by ultrasound). It started to develop after a bad ankle injury about 18 months ago. I sprained the same foot recently and it was painful for a few days but settled down. Now over the last few days I've noticed a dull pain in my calf. Before the continual calf pain I was getting quite bad calf cramping at night. I do have a sedentary desk job and I don't get alot of exercise...
I have an "egg" on the top of my right hand in line with my pinky. It's a hard mass that feels like a bruise when touched however there are no marks or color changes. I noticed it 3 days ago because of the pain and now the knuckle near it is itchy. It sometimes gets bigger during the day (I a right-handed). Should I be worried?
