Tooth extraction and bone graft

Common Questions and Answers about Tooth extraction and bone graft

teeth

Avatar m tn Bone graft after tooth extraction helps preserve alveolar bone, which facilitates implant placement. It's a cost- effective investment.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, #6 needs to be extracted. My dentist proposes to extract the tooth and when the site heals perform a block bone graft (there isn't enough bone for a socket perservation). Originally ridge augmentation, GTR, and block bone graft were going to be perfomed at time of the extraction. After studyng my X-rays my dentist changed his mind. I'm disappointed and concerned; I believe that the bone in that area will recede even more.
Avatar f tn Bone graft does help faster healing and fewer post op complications if primary closure of surgical wound is achieved. However, wound may still heal uneventfully without bone graft, just slower.
Avatar n tn About two weeks ago I was referred to an oral surgeon for wisdom teeth extraction. All four teeth are impacted and need to be extracted, and it is quite painful. After they took the X-Rays, they told me what procedures I needed to have done. They told me I'd need to have the teeth extracted, and that I'd need a bone graft for each tooth that was removed, and that the bone graft was $350 a tooth.
Avatar f tn If there is significant bone resorption due to periodontal disease and primary closure of extraction site is not achievable, bone graft to preserve alveolar ridge may not be appropriate. Mutual rapport between you and your treating dentist is extremely important. If you do'nt understand your dentist 's explanation, keep on inquing until you are fully aware of everythong. Please keep in mind many treatment problems arise from poor communications between patient and health care providers.
Avatar f tn Extraction of teeth and bone graft are simple procedure . There is no need to worry. It appears that you are going to have immediate denture after tooth extraction. Immediate generally requires soft liner, and may need periodic reling , depending on the material . I personally would place implant 3-6 months after bone graft, depending on the healing process. If you have question, you should discuss with your dentist thoroughly.
Avatar n tn Bone graft on wisdom tooth extraction site is generally not indicated.
Avatar m tn I had a fractured anterior tooth #6 extracted and a bone graft of bovine and cadaver bone installed 2 ½ weeks ago, and I took a regime of antibiotics prior to extraction, and for one week thereafter. I am experiencing a mild sensitivity. How long before the extraction site calms down?
Avatar m tn A week later I was due to have the extraction with my perio. He insisted on doing a bone graft - he harvested tissue from my palate) after the extraction). I had the sutures removed after two weeks. Now my prosthodontist is saying that I have to wait for the grafted area to heal before I can have the porcelain crown. I'm not sure whether he's talking about months, as he's booked me in four weeks time to have the temporary crown re-cemented.

Avatar m tn I just had a tooth extracted. THey put the bone graft material in it and sewed it up with stitches. My question is where the stitiches are in the back part looks like something is hanging down and it is squisihy. Could it be some sort or covering they put over the bone graft that is falling out? or is this normal?
Avatar f tn In April 2014, I had a tooth extracted and supposedly a bone graft done at the same time. It was very obvious after the extraction that something was wrong. The dentist had basically destroyed my jaw and removed 90% of my jaw bone in the area of the extraction. Called the dentist and said this was normal and not to worry about it and to keep my appointment for the bridge a week later. I cancelled and went to another dentist that I trusted.
Avatar m tn Optimal management is placemant of collagen plug(colla plug), or bone graft material into extraction socket, and suture of the surgical site. Post-op instructions include avoidance of straw and sneezing, if managed properly, most oroantral communications heal up uneventfully. If the condition persists after 6 weeks, you may need to see an oral surgeon to surgically repair the defect.
Avatar m tn so if i have bone loss and need bone graft can implantologist still do immediate implant ?
Avatar n tn The periodontist is recommending extraction, bone graft, and implant. Are there any other options to treat and save this tooth?? I've heard some people get tooth roots "amputated" -- does that offer options for sealing a hole in the tooth, and replanting the post properly?? Are there any other questions I should be asking the dentist or options I should be exploring before I agree to extraction and grafting... Any perspectives would be much, much, much appreciated!
Avatar n tn 2 weeks ago I had my back left molar extracted, the one in front of where the wisdom tooth would be, and the oral surgeon did a bone graft for a future implant. I have had severe pain due to bony protrusions down about 1/4 inch below extraction site and have been to the surgeon twice to have him sand? them down. I have pain that is constant and it worsens and throbs any time after I swallow.
Avatar m tn I went for a cleaning appt , when they did x-rays the tooth deteriated in the gumline and bone .An oral surgeon extracted the tooth and did a bone graph due to bone loss. I was never givien antibiotics. After a wk I still had swelling in my face and the site was oozing pus. It was the weekend I had antibiotics of my husbands (enough for 3 days)I was sure this was an infection.I made an appt w/the oral surgeon . My jaw felt dislocated I couldnt chew and could barely open my mouth.
Avatar m tn From the x-ray of my implant, I found that my implant is too close to tooth #9 and the bone in between my implant and tooth #9 not grow much to integrate with the implant. I could also see the implant through my front gum, the gray color show off. I deeply worried and began to consult with some oral surgeons and some implant specialist. When they see the x-ray, all their first reaction is: This implant is not good. So, I took a CT Scan to see the implant 3-dimension.
Avatar m tn Hi, Bone grafts can be an easy thing. I just had four implants on my top front teeth and each one had a bone graft. They used what I call "bone in a bottle" or cadaver bone. As long as you have a good oral surgeon doing your implant, this is no problem. It worked great for me. I am now in the healing cap phase of my implants and it has been worth every second! Try not to worry too much about the bone graft. Just ask your doctor where they plan on getting the bone.

Avatar f tn I had an extraction and bone graft on a molar (tooth #3) a bit over a month and a half ago (a month and 3 weeks to be exact). Yesterday when brushing, I noticed I started bleeding a bit from the extraction area, and when I took a close look, I noticed some white/yellow spots peeping out of the this area. I’m a bit worried as I didn’t notice this before. There’s 0 pain, and 0 swelling in the area, no foul orders.
Avatar n tn But if you opt into having an extraction done, then you have to deal with replacing this tooth with either a bridge, a removable denture, or an implant, which might end up with needing bone graft, and more complicated procedures which will cost more money.
Avatar f tn I'm going through something similar as you except without the nose bleeds. Please tell me how your graft turned out. I'm on my second bone graft and now it is looking infected as well.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to open the gum tissue and place a bone graft into the area around the tooth and help secure it - the tooth?
Avatar f tn I'm sorry to hear this Kitty...are you talking about one tooth or many teeth? I had to have a tooth extraction shortly after my 48 weeks of TX - a fractured tooth (and I'm sure it was related to TX) but I've had no further problems. I hope your situation is not ongoing.
Avatar f tn So I was told my root had perforated my sinus cavity. The dentist then put a bone graft in and sewed it semi shut and sent me on my way with antibiotics and pain medications. Should I see a doctor about this? Is this a common occurrence?
Avatar f tn Now the area that had the chain (that had sunken in after the tooth was extracted and I was so concerned about) has quite a bit of bone loss and I most likely and going to get a bone graft tomorrow. My oral surgeon said he couldn't be 100% sure what he could do until he opened the area, so we have several different plans discussed just in case.
