Avatar n tn While all children with ADHD are not deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, we believe that the addition of omega-3 fatty acids to the diet may be important for some ADHD children. In fact, studies show that children whose treatment program includes only medication, educational and psychological therapy continue to be at high risk for vandalism, petty crime, frequency of alcoholic intoxication, and possession of marijuana.

Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.
1655526 tn?1330655629 On Omega-3 supplements, I notice a significant increase in PVCs as well as slight increase in general twitchiness or anxiety. Yeah, it's a sample size of one and I'm the only observer, but that's the way it seems to me. However, some scientists have observed problems in giving patients these supplements: http://www.examiner.
Avatar f tn I had 1 can of tuna, 3 scallops and stripped bass all in one week...I wasn't even thinking. Will my baby be ok?
Avatar n tn Due to the fact you are extremely underweight and you need to gain weight slowly, recommend a Heart Healthy diet which means a moderate fat diet to increase ‘good’ fats to benefit your body. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar f tn I did a quick search of the literature, and there is little proof that Omega-3 helps with myelin repair, although there is research in this area. Omega-3 and Omega-6 seem to be very important for the DEVELOPING BRAIN AND NERVOUS SYSTEM. Much of the evidence to date has to do with prenatal and children's diets and consumption of to little Omgega-3 and excess Omega-6. The body can produce Omega-9 given a balanced diet.
Avatar n tn I am always cautions about high dose of anything, albeit I do take 2 grams of fish oil Omega 3 every day...noting that 3 grams are recommended. It may take some time to work out the high dose B12 effects, and I say that without out any personal knowledge or even a knowledge of what the "normal" daily requirement of B12 is, i.e., how much you were over the "line". I hope you are taking reasonable quantities of fish oil.
Avatar m tn Higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, the active components in omega-3s, can also be found in LOVAZA — the first and only prescription omega-3 medication. It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Therefore, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions that some people should limit the amount of certain types of fish they eat.
Avatar f tn Rather, we want to increase long-chain omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oils) to reduce the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in the food. So, rather than add a supplement to a food, you are better served to feed a food that already has increased omega-3 fatty acids (specifically, EPA and DHA), and has a ratio of n-6 to n-3 of between 10:1 and 5:1.
Avatar f tn The omega-3 fatty acids should be in your prenatal.
317787 tn?1473358451 As for helping stiffness, Omega 3 oils might help with inflammation, and when used in conjunction with other anti-inflammatories such as turmeric and ginger and many others might work a whole lot better. But stiffness isn't the same as inflammation, so whether this will help depends on why you're stiff.
Avatar m tn Others argue that too much fatty fish might be a problem not because of the Omega 3 oils but the contaminants that have gotten into our fatty fish (you can avoid some of this by taking a reliable supplement, but unfortunately we have to rely on company reputation for this as nobody is doing much checking out there). And with flax, is there a difference between organically grown and that grown with carcinogenic chemical applications? Between farm raised fish and wild fish?

907968 tn?1292622204 Salmon from the sea is the way to go for the Omega 3 oils and other nutrients that come from life in the sea. There are limits to how much you should eat per week due to mercury in the fish. You can research this on the web. I had a quintuple bypass 2 years ago at age 49. No more fried or buttery food for me. Plus lots of veggies and fruit. Steel-cut oats are great for breakfast and will make your cholesterol happy.
