Common Questions and Answers about Tongue numbness vitamin

tongue

Avatar n tn Hi there. Numbness or tingling in the tongue also known as paresthesia, occur most commonly due to damage to the nervous system. Damage to the lingual nerve supplying the tongue as a complication of dental procedures like wisdom tooth extraction, implants or root canal procedures. Other conditions could be stroke. Sometimes these can involve the lips or jaw. Calcium and vitamin B complex deficiency needs to be addressed. Consult an oral surgeon for assessment of possibilities. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn i a male of 24 yrs and i recently started to feel numbness of my tongue and of my lower lip. i don't know what may be causing this. can smoking cause this?
Avatar f tn I had numbness from vitamin B12 deficiency. This deficiency is easy to misdiagnose as doctors don't routinely test for it and labs are too low in most countries which miss a deficiency state. I would recommend sublingual (under the tongue) B12 to see if you improve. Not treating B12 deficiency can result in permanent nerve damage.
Avatar n tn Long term use of PPIs like aciphex causes decreased absorption of vitamin B12 leading to a deficiency in this crucial vitamin. Vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms include numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Permanent nerve damage will occur if vitamin B12 deficiency has has gone without treatment for a sufficient time. The baking soda test: Mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, not baking powder) in an 8 ounce glass and drink it.
494672 tn?1254152672 I can not feel cold/hot or taste with the majority of my tongue for at least a month now. My fingertips on one of my hands are tingly & numb also. This week when I lay down I have been having numbness on my forehead & my eyelids. It is better when I get up. The past few days I have been getting more numbness in my right leg & arm & it has been lasting hours. I have an appt. with a neurologist on Monday as my regular doctor does not know what to do with me.
Avatar f tn As the vitamin B12 levels slowly but surely decrease, neurological systems start to show up. Some people experience numbness or a crawling sensation rather than tingling. Vitamin B12 reference ranges are far too low in Australia and can miss a deficiency state. If you decide you want to check your vitamin B12 levels out, then note that in Europe deficiency is classed as 550pg/mL (405.9 pmol/L) and under. This is still too low so aim for higher in the range.
363281 tn?1643235611 I just copied a list of all anxiety symptoms, you will be amazed.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor last week and she seemed concerned with all this so she took bloods and checked for diabetes, tsh levels, rheumatoid issues, and vitamin levels. Everything came back perfectly normal except that my vitamin B12 levels were on the low side (I came in at 275, which is in the normal "range" but still on the low side... normal range is from 245 to above 2,000).
Avatar f tn But have you checked your Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D?
711242 tn?1275003402 This is only indicated in documented cases of pernicious anemia (otherwise excess amounts of vitamin b12 can be as harmful as a deficiency). Your tongue pain is ununusual, sometimes vitamin B12 deficiency can cause a time of mucositis that affects the tongue. Regarding your incontinence, it sounds like you were recently evaluated and had a surgery; there are many causes of urine incontinence, some are urologic and some neurologic.
559187 tn?1330782856 Love , Lauri PS - As Quix noted, if the burning, tingling sensation is only on one side of the tongue, it would probably be more of an MS issue, and not a vitamin problem (..as it wouldnt respect nerve boundries..). So the above info would only apply if the entire tongue was experiencing these symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hi, these kinds of symptoms are suggestive of neurological disease, diabetes or vitamin B deficiency. Please get her investigated, blood tests for anemia, vitamin B deficiency, glucose etc along with MRI brain can rule out these possibilities. How old is she, any history of birth anoxia, seizures etc?
Avatar f tn Too much folic acid in the blood stream can also give inaccurate readings of Vitamin B12 levels. Vitamin B12 is another vitamin that is water soluble and excreted if too much is taken. You should take the recommend dosage of folic acid as directed by your doctor. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn Douglas, The numbness and tingling may be neuropathy. I had numbness of my feet for six weeks, and when I began taking B Complex supplements, the numbness got better immediately. I had been taking B12 sublingual supplement, but with no noticeable result. When I tried another form, a powder that I took on the tongue, the pressure/pain sensation in my legs improved.
Avatar f tn I do sometimes experience some burning on the right hand side of my face and tongue numbness. On occasions the tongue numbness is really bad but usually not long lasting but of late often my tongue on the underneath but just feels numb or like pressure or tight sensation. When this occurs I seem to have some type of head pain but more like a random shooting pain.
Avatar n tn This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor (both dentist and orthopedic specialist) and get yourself examined. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar f tn I just recently had my Vitamin B12 tested and the result was 209 (low normal) and when I repeated it 3 weeks later is had dropped low still to 187, which they say is still normal(normal ref range 150-668) but I have been having nerve problems since April this year and the neurologist I saw said it wasn't MS after I had a normal MRI of the head and neck and normal nerve conduction studies.
Avatar n tn Regarding the numbness and muscle twitching, please get a blood sugar test done to rule out diabetes. Also Vitamin B6 and B12 deficiency can cause numbness in various parts of the body. Excess fluid in the nose, eyes and throat also indicates an allergic response. Please consult a specialist as soon as you can. Take care!
Avatar f tn properly, I have numbness and tingling in my half of my chin, cannot feel teeth 1-4, I had numbness in my tongue as well but just for few days. At least I had to sign paper that if they remove it I will not go to court to them, they said that nerve was damaged and it could heal or it could be permanent. I think it is called paresthesia. Anyway having head aches since that 6 weeks, on paracetamol all the time and it seems I have to have another 2 wisdom done because getting gums infections.
