tongue

Avatar n tn This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor (both dentist and orthopedic specialist) and get yourself examined. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I had three teeth prepped for crowns 7 weeks ago and am still suffering from a numb tongue on the right side. According to my dentist the numbness of the tongue was due to the lingual nerve being injured while the novacane was being administered. He claims it will go away in time. I've heard from others, my brother being one of them, that said their numbness went away after months not weeks of suffering with the condition and in my brother's case it was a year and a half.
Avatar m tn This numbness was always on the right side of my body, right hand, right leg and right lip. The tongue, however, when it happened was the full tongue, and at the moment solely the left side of my tongue is numb. Now, finally, one more thing--my dad for reason has a hunch that such symptoms always happen for me in the cold, as previous MS attacks for me have been happening during the winter months.

Avatar n tn Is it common to have tongue numbness and lips numbness with fibro? It also seems i every day i get a new symptom is this normal also?
Avatar f tn A migraine like headache, with one sided tongue, and possibly lip, numbness can be caused by a subluxation of vertebrae in the upper neck. I have both migraines with auras that vary, and severe headaches caused by cervical subluxation. They are identical in the severity and general duration being up to 4 days long. They both have sudden onset, cause severe pain, nausea, vomiting, photophobia, dizziness, sensitivity to cold, and are made worse by noise.
Avatar n tn In my opinion it is related to neck-tongue syndrome. There is upper nuchal (neck) or occipital pain on one side, with or without numbness in these areas. This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. If there is a C1-C2 instability then this can be dangerous. Hence get this confirmed by a MRI immediately. It can also be an inflamed wisdom tooth.
Avatar n tn I had my lower wisdom teeth removed and am now suffering from partial jaw and tongue numbness. Since the side that is suffering the numbness is the side that had the most work done, I was okay at first with not feeling any of the pain. In addition, my doctor says that it will probably take a couple of weeks for the feeling to return and not to worry. It has only been one week and I am already highly frustrated.

935493 tn?1248796864 Wisdom tooth, trigeminal neuralgia, Bell’s palsy, and compression of C2 nerve root of cervical nerves can cause one side or ipsilateral numbness of face. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I do sometimes experience some burning on the right hand side of my face and tongue numbness. On occasions the tongue numbness is really bad but usually not long lasting but of late often my tongue on the underneath but just feels numb or like pressure or tight sensation. When this occurs I seem to have some type of head pain but more like a random shooting pain.
Avatar n tn I have had a numb tongue off and on for over a year. There are days that it feels entirely numb. The taste sensations are affected with this. None of my specialists can tell me what causes it; a couple have said that no one knows what causes it. I have heard it can be related to MS etc. I do believe it is possible for it to be related to food allergies. It is one of many mystery symptoms I have.
382218 tn?1341181487 Has anyone had sudden numbness of the tongue and lips, and if so, what caused this? Last night this sensation seemed to come on quite suddenly, and I thought to myself, here we go with another relapse. But after a few hours it was gone, and has not reappeared today. There was nothing out of the ordinary regarding my diet and activity level yesterday, no sudden rise in body temp, no infection (to my knowledge), etc.
Avatar m tn And, with my tongue, it is quite literally on the left side of my tongue. If you create a line splits my tongue in half, the left side of that line will be numb and the right side won't. Please. Please help me. My neurologist is hell-bent on the idea that this is MS even though he cannot explain the variable numbness, why it is triggered by exercise, why the tongue and lips are numb, etc when there is no lesion on those nerves. I can give you the MRI's if you want them. Please help me.
Avatar f tn I have had blood work, Brian Scans, and went to a nerologist and nothing. My tongue, left side of my face and even my ear gets numb. My tongue feels like I have burnt it on something hot. Even the muscles in my left arm harden and hurt. Just the last couple of days I have been having muscle cramps with it. I do not have any high blood pressure, No diabeties, No high chorolesrole, no known issue for this but a car accident about 4 years ago and I am thinking it might be from my neck.
Avatar n tn I recently started taking Mirapex ER for possible PD and my tongue is numb and feels swollen. However, it does not appear swollen. I have had some numbness in my tongue in the past although it did not last for several days. My symptoms become more apparent about an hour after taking medication. I looked at the side effects and this is not one of them. Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to this medication?
Avatar n tn If it is only a portion of your tongue and lip on only one side, it is possibly a high cervical subluxation or a migraine symptom. For subluxation, see a Physical Therapist specialist in Manual Therapy, or a Chiropractor. For a migraine see your doctor about trying Maxalt or other medication to prevent or ease the pain syptoms. Do you have any other symptoms?
Avatar m tn I think everyone I know has felt the occasional eye twitch. I posted a question about tongue numbness a couple of weeks ago (thank you all for your responses) which seemingly morphed into facial numbness on the same side as the tongue numbness and the twitching started 4-5 days ago. It's on the same side of my face and extends from my eye down to my mouth and is extremely annoying. It seems the more tired I am the worse it is, which sort of makes sense to me.
Avatar n tn Hi, can someone help, I have been having numbness down the left side of my body and face and also affecting my speech, the doctors are puttung it down to a focal mirgraine, put the problem is I do not have a migraine when this happens, it can happen out of the blue. The last attack I had the symptons were the same of someone that is having a stroke. The doctors do not know what is causing this to happen. I sometimes have a mirgaine two - three days after but that doesn't always happen.
Avatar n tn However, I have been suffering from numb tongue for the past two weeks. Half of my tongue on the left hand side is numb and i can feel not much taste. 1. When will this problem go away? 2. What causes the symptom? 3. Anything I can do to make it back to normal as soon as possible?
Avatar n tn This is accompanied by simultaneous ipsilateral (same side) numbness of the tongue. This numbness is caused by compression of the second cervical root (C2) in the atlantoaxial space. Occipital neuralgia, TIA or ministroke, trigeminal neuralgia should also be looked into. Common cold, sinusitis, ear infection, sensory nerve compression, peripheral neuropathy as in diabetes, inflamed wisdom tooth, impacted wisdom tooth etc can all cause facial numbness and pain.
Avatar n tn m really scared. In about September of 2004 I started having numbness on the left side of my face and down my left arm. The numbness was kind of a numb sensation, but it was not numb to the touch nor did I lose any movement. The numbness in my face is along my left jaw line kind of into my cheek and along the outer corner of my left eye. Also, the left corner of my mouth and the left side of my tongue sometimes feel numb. There is no drooping or anything like that.
Avatar f tn However, I have over the last week or so developed numbness on the right side of my tongue. Food tastes horrible, powdery, and when I was brushing my teeth this morning I realized that my tongue is numb as well as my lower right side gum. Is this a side effect of Copaxone? MS? What can it be?
712171 tn?1233921206 As for this one, well it does not appear on any side effect list I have seen for Lithium carbonate. Yes Lithium has a long list of potential side effects, its also been around since the 1800's which gives it a long history. And yes there can be a risk of thyroid problems - no lithium does not automatically affect the thyroid - there are many many patients who have taken lithium for decades without a problem.

Do discuss this with your doctor (both dentist and orthopedic specialist) and get yourself examined. Maybe a MRI of cervical spine may be required. Metallic taste in mouth is a common side effect of many medications. It could be due to infection of gums or cavities in teeth.
Avatar n tn After the dentist gave me an injection of novacaine, I have no feeling in the tip of my tongue and along the right side of my tongue. I am afraid I will never regain the sensation in my tongue again. Can you tell me if this is normal, and if so, how long it will take for the feeling to return? I'm thinking my dentist did something wrong to cause this, although he is adamant that he did not. I have more dental work that needs to be done, but am afraid to continue.
Avatar n tn I just experienced blurred/spotted vision, followed by numbness in left hand, immediately followed by numbness on my lip and nose (left side), then was pounded with an awful headache. Miserable, but I think that could be it.
