Common Questions and Answers about Tongue lesions oral surgeon

tongue

Avatar n tn The odd thing is they seem to change from day to day, and I dont know what they are. I went to an oral surgeon, and he said he didn't know what it was, and he wanted to take a biopsy. I wanted to get some other opinions before I get stiches in my tongue and not be able to eat solid foods for a week. I noticed another post where the poster had the same exact symptoms, but there was no suggestions as to what it could be. The previous post was over a year ago at http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn It grew and spread to the other side of the tongue. It is always painless, unless picked at. The lesions present as flattened white wrinkly patches, that can be rubber off with a paper towel exposing a red base underneath, that sometimes bleeds. I am quite certain it is not thrush, as my mother is a pediatric nurse practitioner and assures me it couldn't be this. I have not been on any antibiotics for years and don't have a problem with being sick in general.
Avatar f tn Months ago I was on an antibiotic. After that I noticed a white film in my mouth along with a soreness on my tongue. I suspected thrush so the doctor perscribed Nystatin. I started the nystatin but to be honest I am not a good medicine taker and therefore did not take it successfully (5x/day). Since it continued I went to my dentist who gave me a oral cancer check with visalite and they found abnormal areas.
Avatar n tn I worked for a prosthodontist for 2 years and we had a patient that had Oral Lichen Planus with a complete upper denture and a lower partial. I am sorry for your situation. I think you should go see an oral surgeon they are very in tune to what is a concern as far as oral cancer and such things. They can probably look at an area and tell you what they think. Or they could always do a swab or even a small biopsy and send it off to be tested. What's the harm?
Avatar n tn You should consider seeing a dentist or oral maxillofacial surgeon to have it checked out. Any hard lesions of the soft tissues, especially on the tongue, are not normal.
Avatar m tn The spots are sort of like white rings with a red center. I saw an oral surgeon for a consultation and she said it looks like geographic tongue, however, geographic tongue moves around and changes shape. Mine basically stay in the same place and reappear every day. They can be scraped off with a tongue brush which rules out leukoplakia which can't be scraped off.
Avatar m tn If it comes up again, I would check in with an oral surgeon or pathologist. First, they can tell you what exactly it is, and second they can remove it in a safer manner. Most lesions can be surgically removed without recurrance. Otherwise, if you are worried about HIV, get tested. Either you will know for sure you don't have it, or you will know early and can control it...win/win scenario.
Avatar n tn Go see an oral surgeon, they deal with lesions more often and will be able to tell you what they are.
Avatar m tn For anyone else who has geographic tongue, does it always move around, or can geographic tongue stay in the same place for a while? An oral surgeon said what I have looks like geographic tongue, I had two fungal swabs and both were negative so no candida. The thing is, it doesn't move around, it appears in generally the same place, disappears by the afternoon or after I have eaten something, and then slowly reappears as the day goes on.
Avatar n tn sounds like mucoceles to me, but next time you get one see your dentist for a deinitive diagnosis. To me, it does not sound serious or disease related. Smoking is BAD, period, not just for your oral tissue but for every other part of your body. The chemcals in the smoke are poisonous and toxic, and you are voluntarily breathing them in and bathing your delicate lung and vascular tissues in them.
1124204 tn?1292225977 so then an oral surgeon would be the one whos expertise is with oral lesions bumps etc? so with your experience do oral cancer bumps get bigger and smakller through out the day? do they hang around for 3 years without any change in ones health or does it spread rather quickly?
Avatar f tn When I went for re evaluation on Wednesday Doctor noticed small lesions on my tongue. She sent me right to oral surgeon and told me to come back and see her on Monday march 28. Surgeon took X-ray and it looked fine. He told me he thought I had shingles and prescribed me prednisone for five days. In the next five days the pain in my face subsided and the sores on my tongue got worse.
Avatar n tn An oral surgeon on the other hand is a dentitst who has had trainging in disease of the oral cavity you may also want to find an oral surgeon who speicalizes in oral pathology but this is not needed. You will probably need a referal to see an oral surgeon so speak with your ENT or GP.
Avatar m tn Has anyone done a culture or biopsy? Are you taking any medications? If it were me, I would be seeing a good oral surgeon and an ENT doc.
Avatar n tn In any case, you should be seen by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who will take a complete history and after the clinical exam may prescribe a medication or recommend a biopsy. Any lesion(s) that persist or recur in the oral cavity should be biopsied. If you still believe that you may be at risk for an infectious or sexually transmitted disease I suggest you see an Infectious Disease Specialist.
Avatar m tn Yea...I mean, it's only my tongue that's the problem...some days my tongue looks dry...and the lesions seem to be going down..and then few days down the road they come back. The only reason I think the herpes is related to the lesions in my mouth is because I didn't have this problem before I need to go and have another test. Thanks everyone.
Avatar n tn I would assume that you would know the type of doctor that was treating you.Again I would give you the same advice I gave you last time. Either see an oral surgeon or an oral pathologist to get a definitive diagnosis.
Avatar f tn It's become turn red and inside the ring may cause other oral problem. For this reason, it is important to seek medical advice.
Avatar f tn ve seen an ENT and an allergist and no one seems to know what the lesions on my tongue are. I saw an oral surgeon and he just said it could be systemic. I am getting a biopsy on the lesions on my tongue next week and seeing a specialist for possible vulvodynia. I'm also going to see a rheumatologist because my nuero thinks I have becet's disease. Could this all just be an initial outbreak of herpes!?
Avatar n tn it does not sound like cancer but it is not possible to tell w/out seeing you. theefore, i'd have it evaluated by an oral surgeon.
Avatar n tn Seeing an oral pathologist or oral surgeon is advised.
Avatar n tn If it is due to irritation, then you must find out what it is that your tongue is rubbing against. I would suggest seeing an oral surgeon http://www.top3dentists.com/pages/oral_surgery and then see a Neuromuscular Dentist http://www.top3dentists.com/pages/neuro_dentistry.
Avatar n tn nobody can diagnose you online. have you seen your dentist? id make an appt and have it looked at. if it comes and goes i doubt it is cancer but it sounds like you need an exam to see what is the cause. do you smoke? chew tobacco?
Avatar n tn it does not look serious-- but it cant hurt to have an oral surgeon look at it. I dont think it;s related to your cold. I think it was always there and you just noticed it. If it is bothersome and oral surgoeon could probably excise it-- it looks like an epitheliaal extension-- kind of like a tissue tag.
Avatar m tn http://www.studydroid.com/imageCards/0b/87/card-11803657-front.jpg I was treated with Nystatin but it did not cure me. A week later, my tongue looked better, but still not cured. The night sweats went away after the third week but I began to experience fatigue and my CBC results began to show irregularities (please see chart): http://www.medhelp.org/user_photos/show/265672 After six weeks, my tongue is still tingling and numb and ulcerated.
