Common Questions and Answers about Tongue hurts underside

tongue

Hi - i woke up this morning and the right underside of my tongue was swollen - the left is completely normal - but the right is just slightly swollen and it hurts a little - has anyone experienced this or knows that it could be?
On the underside of my tongue, there are two very small 1/4" flaps of skin about halfway back that sort of hang down. I saw someone mention below that he had those, and he wondered if they were abnormal, so I guess not everyone has them, but... one of mine seems to be infected somehow. I don't even know how to describe what it is if you don't know what I mean, but it hurts like a canker sore, and it's red, and for as small as it is, it's packing a punch.
I have these small bumps under my tongue that have little white centres but are painless I also have a large bump under the skin of my tongue on the floor and it hurts when I apply pressure to it, it's not visible the underside of my tongue is also whitish in color
My seven year old has a similar growth on the front underside of her tongue. It started out small and looked to be what we as kids called a tast bud sore. Over the course of the past 4 weeks it has grown however from a pin tip size thing to the size of the end of a pen cap. It goes from white to black in color and at times has a reddish tinge in the center. She has complained at times that it hurts.
she also performed oral sex on me, and she has a tongue ring(not even sure if that matters). that s all that we did. so later that night the tip felt kind of sore. i was a little worried but assured myself it was from the roughness. usually when this happens, the pain goes away within a day. it's been two or three days and i still feel a slight stinging feeling, particularly on the underside of my penis right underneath the tip.
The other one is not even an inch away and can be felt between my index finger and thumb on the underside of my tongue. I've read that tongue cancer usually starts on the lateral borders but can also start on the underside. I'm a 24 year old black male who had smoked Black n Mild cigars ( on average 2 a day, inhaled) for about 3 years and marijuana for about 6 years (not everyday but often). In size, the second one is less than a pea, but not by much.
What surface of the tongue are they on? The top part of the tongue, or the underside? Look up pictures of "geographic tongue" because that occurs on the top part of the tongue. If it is on the bottom, it could be some canker sores because they occur on these spots. Either one, it would just be palliative treatment. Use some numbing gel - all your dentist will give you is, at most, a steroid rinse. See if it goes away within 7 days. If it doesn't, then go to your dentist.
A day or two later I noticed more red spots showing up on the roof of my mouth, although they never turned white like a typical canker. Now the tip of my tongue is sore, no visible canker. Underside of my tongue and bottom of my mouth under my tongue are sore. No visible sore but it looks like the salivary glands are red. Is it some viral thing or something else? Kind of has me worried. I've made an appointment with my regular doctor but wonder if I should be seeing a dentist instead.
yesterday as i was looking in my mouth to see the back of my throat i had to stick my finger in my mouth to hold my tongue down and i noticed it wasnt my throat it was the back off my tongue that hurts.
Today, the dots are gone but overall, my tongue feels swollen and it hurts on the underside only. I also have a peculiar taste in my mouth: a combination of blood (I've thought that my tongue was bleeding but checked the mirror and it isn't) and a metallic taste as well. I have been very thirsty and my mouth is super dry. I also have the overwhelming desire to brush my teeth as I feel a sensation of build up at my gum line on my back molars, even a couple of hours after I brush.
I have a lump that started under my tongue a couple of weeks ago. After about 5 days it was red and sore when I tried to eat. Someone told me to suck on lemon slices (don't laugh). I tried this and the next day it was already alot smaller. After another day of sucking on lemon slices it was almost completely gone. A week and a half later it has appreared again. Sucking on the lemon slices again, and it is growing alot smaller. What in the world can this be? I have been under alot of stress.
Woke up this morning with a small (less than centimeter in diameter) white, bump on the underside of my tongue- roughly in the centre about an inch back from the tip of my tongue. I am 21 male was a relavtively heavy drinker and a light smoker (apart from a few occasions where I smoked too much in one go i guess). How did it turn out for you? What has happened to you since you discovered the bump?
I started with sores on my tongue, gums, and roof of my mouth, now the underside of my tongue hurts/dry and the lymphnode in my neck is swollen. I am in a serious relationship but this started after I gave him oral sex. What could it be? It's been a week now. Sores are gone but underside of tongue still dry/numb and lymph node in neck is swollen and painful.
The floor of my mouth and part of the underside of my tongue seem to be very burned. It hurts and there are parts that are white. Am I alright and what should I do?
It lasted only one day. My mouth feels dry and my tongue - especially the underside - is coated, but my throat no longer hurts. No fever, no rash, no muscle aches. Some malaise. Based on everything I've read, this does not sound like ARS. My symptoms are mild and not multiple. But I read on wikipedia that sometimes symptoms can be mild, so I'm starting to really worry. I'd appreciate any advice. I'm quite scared.
Sorry Ricky. The underside of my tongue hurts and looks inflamed. I don't know what else it could be since I deep kissed her and all these mouth things showed up. I wanna believe my tests.
it just seems that too many of the symptoms -- white tongue, really bad foot pain, that sometimes hurts so much on the top that i have to sit down, and other times, just hurts mildly underneath. also, now worried that pain on the underside of my thigh, near my groin, is a swollen lymph node -- just scared, that's all.
It went away and then a larger one formed on the back of the roof of my mouth and within a few days I had red spots or blotches all over the roof of my mouth. At the same time the underside of my tongue became sore (no visible sores, but the salivary glands seemed red). Also the floor of my mouth under my tongue seemed to hurt and was slightly swollen (at least felt like it). There was no pain in my lymphnodes, although the ones under my jaw seemed like they might be slightly swollen.
I feel, though, that if it were herpes it would be all over the area my partner’s mouth touched such as my testicles and lower penis shaft, or even the underside of my penis where a tongue most commonly touches the penis. After doing minimal research into the various skin disorders I could have I feel my situation most closely resembles pearly penile papules without being as protruding as I have seen them in pictures, but even more so I feel it resembles molluscum.
I have had jaw pain for about 9 months now. Had my submaxillary gland removed because of swelling and pain and it showed chronic infection. Feeling better but still have a sensation of swelling under my tongue and "funny" feeling in two lower crowned molars on that side - kind of like a constant ache which is driving me crazy. It bothers me to talk. There is no visible swelling. I had the same sensation before surgery.
I wake up today on the May the 2nd and it feels like there is something sharp solid and jagged cutting into the underside of my tongue and making it difficult to swallow. Also my gum line felt like it was cut with a knife. I went back to the dentist today and he stated it was part of the tooth socket bone and was normal and the gum would grow over it, and sent me home. The bone looks like it is an odd place and hurts.
sensation on the left side of my tongue that's with me almost constantly. The pain feels like I bit my tongue or burned it. None of my doctors or dentist can determine a cause for it, and finally my dentis said it's probably paranthesia. It drives me crazy, for sure! Does anyone know if paranthesia can be treated?
but never this many at once. my tongue appears fine the underside that attaches to the mouth is a little sore from sticking my tongue out and examming it in the mirror all day worrying.
It took me a little time to relies I didn’t have a soft blanket on, and ½ of my ring finger and pinky were numb mixed with pins and needles along with wrist, forearm, and upper arm (underside). It comes and goes threw out the day, its always there just changes in intensity. by 3/20/09 , the pins and needles spread to the whole hand. ½ my wrist and forearm went numb and the other half felt like there was a dagger twisting along with electric shocks.
It took me a little time to relies I didn’t have a soft blanket on, and ½ of my ring finger and pinky were numb mixed with pins and needles along the wrist, forearm, and upper arm (underside). It comes and goes. Went to my doc on 3/11/09 I told him what was going on. I was thinking pitched nerve like CTS or something like it. My doc told my to pay attention to my arm and see what sets it off, when I go to bed keep my arms straight, and I’ll see you in 2 weeks.
A day or two later I noticed a clear fluid filled bump on the inside of my bottom lip. I can feel it with my tongue and if I pull my lip down I can see it. It's painless... and tiny. Is it part of the cold sore (herpes) outbreak?? This discussion is related to Blister inside lower lip.
Not sure if it's the same as the OP's but I'll mention it anyway. I have recurring small mucoceles that appear on the underside of my tongue. Right along the midline "pipe". They never get too big and disappear if I leave them alone. Most of the time only one comes back, and can be absent for up to a month. But one always seem to recur. After a few days they go white from rubbing on my lower teeth. I've learnt it's best to leave them alone rather than pop them.

numb spot and delayed reaction around it. The back of my right eyeball hurts and the sides hurt when it moves. Around 3pm, my right eye was jumping. This has happened 4 times today; one time I had double vision. The bottom of my left foot is either tingling or cramping off and on all day. 5/16/09 my R forearm has numbness and delayed reaction. When I press on the numb spot I feel tingling and pins and needles on top of my hand and in all my fingers.
