I'm positive the vast majority of us would rather streak through Wal Mart than get up in front of a group of people. (Would anybody notice us in Wal Mart? Somehow I think we'd just "blend!") I suppose there are a number of things you could try before it was your turn to be on stage.
Avatar f tn many people have a fear of public speaking. And remember anxiety and panic can come at the most inoppertune times even if we have previously been through the exact same experience panic free time after time. I also agree that you should not expect perfection and not be too hard on yourself. Just the fact that you get up there is something that you should give yourself credit for; that is no easy feat to accomplish in my opinion. Do you have other social situations that you get anxious in?
Avatar m tn If you want to investigate medication, it's completely up to you. Public speaking anxiety is said to respond well to beta blockers, so if that's your one problem -- and it is said to be the most common phobia of all -- you might investigate them. Good luck.
Avatar f tn You are both suffering from a very common phobia. Fear of the dark goes back to the dawn of man and since that time, millions of people have fought it all there lives. Please do not berate yourselves for this phobia or think you are silly for being afraid of the dark at your age. Our phobias are ours to own and suffer with as long as we do nothing about them. Since both of you have stated that your phobia is now interfering with your lives, it's time to take the bull by the horns!

Avatar m tn Next, you’ll create a list of 10 to 20 scary situations that progress toward your final goal. For example, if you final goal is to overcome your fear of flying, you might start by looking at photos of planes and end with taking an actual flight. Each step should be as specific as possible, with a clear, measurable objective. Working through the steps. Under the guidance of your therapist, you’ll then begin to work through the list.

10465376 tn?1423925800 Do you guys have any inputs or suggestions to help ease the process. Also any tips or stories of experience of getting yourself to the hospital alone would be highly appreciated.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed 20mg of Inderal daily for a public speaking phobia and anxiety. When I take it, I find that it's slightly more difficult to breathe and that I have an itchy feeling in my chest w/ a minor dry cough. I have always had mild asthma, though for the last several years, it has been extremely well controlled. I have only used albuterol once in the past 3-4 years. I've never visited a hospital for an asthma attack.
Avatar f tn It will most certainly recede, however, the fact that you are feeling anxious may also mean that you have an anxious nature and that you do have to learn to live with when there are stressful situations in your life. But there are lots of ways to deal with it now, you can do it. You have to break out of the vicious circle of being "afraid" of your anxiety. Try some of the tips I mentioned above, they may help you.
Avatar f tn Well tomarows a big day, I decided that Im feeling well enough to drop from 3mgs to 2 mgs, I had some doubts last week, as I did have some days when I felt beaten & weak, but I cant explain what happened but after 8 days of feeling like a walking zombie, I snapped out of it, maybe its my vitamins or maybe my body got adjusted to the lower dose? Whatever happened it feels good to feel normal.
1309535 tn?1297200280 I was on Lexapro for one year and decided to get off of it last October. I remember never having anxiety attacks till I was on that medication. Now that I'm off, I'm still experiencing some minor but scary ones. I've been feeling dizzy like Im going to pass out often. I've been to the Dr's so many times, they have done tests/blood work on me, they removed my IUD thinking that could be it. They still don't know why I'm feeling dizzy and light headed.
Avatar n tn I think you are displaying signs of social anxiety. If so, this disorder is highly treatable. Begin by speaking to your family physician; if he/she is unable to help you, then ask for a referral to a specialist with experience in anxiety disorders. I wish you the best ...

Avatar m tn So maybe I need a little help. Before Mr. Norco I use to love Public speaking because it scared the **** out of me, gave me that fear buzz, loved being afraid ( weird ) Then with Mr Norco no fear whatsoever, wasn't as much fun. Now I'm just unsure and uncomfortable, no self confidence. This time the fear is not fun. I guess I'm just a Day 18 recovering addict, asking for help once again.... Don't think I'll put the pills in my pocket tonight..
Avatar f tn If your problem is you are "too" shy when dealing with one or more people, I suggest is isn't a drug that you need. Rather you need help in facing this shyness and beating it down. This can/must be started in small steps. Pick something simple, like one situation that doesn't involve lots of people like public speaking, and condition yourself to deal with it. A good one would be talking with one other person who makes you nervous or otherwise troubled.
Avatar m tn their is no chance of HIV without condom breakage...to overcome your fears ...take a test....taking a test can come out of fear 99% than googing...
Avatar f tn Fear of heights in all its forms is, I believe, the 2d most common phobia (the first is fear of speaking in public, officially, but I'm guessing more people confront heights than the need to speak in public so I'm guessing heights might be the most common fear). I have this phobia, but didn't have it until I got a full-blown anxiety disorder. If this is your only phobia, good; if you have several and are anxious about a lot of things, harder.
Avatar f tn d probably start by seeing a therapist or other professional who specializes in treating this problem, or maybe taking a public speaking course and practicing until you lose your fear of it. Or learning some CBT type techniques of relaxation and demystifying the situation. There are herbs and other amino acids, such as taurine, that can also be helpful, though any relaxation supplement or medication can cause sedation.
Avatar m tn You need to work with a psyc doctor because it appears you need to recover from this episode of 12 years ago.You need to open up & tell the doctor everything and comply with the treatment offered.
Avatar n tn I have developed a fear of heights that has interfered with my ability to enjoy my favorite winter sport...snow skiing. The anxiety produced when confronted with height creates what is near panic. The fear only exhibits itself primarily on the ground and outside.. I do not have a fear of flying in a jet airplane or inside tall buildings. It has become a real problem for me to enjoy skiing.
